looks like Soul Calibur IV. I guess this means the gameplay is what has changed, I hope they've done enough to justify a 5th installment.

So long as they work to balance the game out i'm happy. Not a huge SC player but still, i do enjoy a game of SC every now and then :)

Hmm. So it looks exactly like SCIV, but now there are hyper combos. Not sure what to think yet.

Did people have expectations of it looking different than SCIV?

The footage I saw was exactly what I thought it was going to be.

Crap. If they wanted to make it appealing again, they shoulda just made it more gory and realistic. But it's all same crap with changed names...

The problem with Soul Calibur is that unlike games like Tekken where tweaks and small additions really add to the depth of the system, this game doesn't really need that many sequels. The experience is basically the same whether you're playing SC1 on Dreamcast or SC4 on ps3, and I actually prefer the 1st one.

Not impressed.. Looks the same. It's becoming quite obvious these old game systems are tapped out. SC 4.2

That's not really true though, SC is also impacted by tweaks and changes. I read somwhere that they want to decrease the distance between players in this game, which sounds good to me, maybe that will add that layer of defensive play that i feel is missing at the moment.

I'm not saying it's not affected. I'm saying it doesn't really matter that much, because ultimately Soul Calibur shines as a "casual fighting game". Sure you can get all hardcore about Soul Calibur, but why would you when you have more balanced and refined 3d fighters? It's just that you can still have the same amount of fun playing SC1 after expriencing SC4 and you can hardly go back to Tekken 2 or even 3 after playing 6, because they will feel clunky, outdated and unresponsive. In other words, Soul Calibur was pretty much perfect in what it did since the Dreamcast.

SC4 is entirely underrated too. I'm convinced most people who bitch about it are just jumping on the hate train.

I have two concerns with SC5:

1) They said they're making it "easier." That's almost never good. Soul Calibur 4 added a ton of just-frame moves, and I thought it was awesome. They better keep some high level stuff in here.
2) It looks like Cassy and Sophi have both been replaced. They're my two favorite characters in the franchise. That's a big bummer. These two new characters look like worthy replacements at least.

Because it's fun and it's unique. SC2 and SC4 are both great games.

It sure is. I love Soul Calibur, but do we really need the fifth one already?

The problem with the Soul Calibur franchise is that it was perfect with Soul Calibur, so there really isn't a place to go but down afterwards.

That's why I stopped at Modern Warfare 1. It's the same shit every year.

This video just reminds me how far ahead of its time Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast was. The first was quite a masterpiece.

Lol! Yeah, it was like he was sighing when he said five. (I'm not bashing the game, I just thought that was funny.)

Oh come on, you can't pull the call of duty argument on a game that has a sequel every 4 bloody years. I mean SCIV was released in 2008! An updates is due if you ask me :P I for one imagine that they will bring a stronger single player mode (based on how much people whine about story mode being shit in IV), improved online component and probably a metric shit ton ofcustomization options, new characters and balancing aside so i think this might well be a good addition to the series.
