Xbox 360

The ever original Jeff Minter is currently working on a Xbox Live Arcade title called Space Giraffe. He released this video as a "Work in Progress", and as always with this outstanding developer it's very colorful and also very strange.

Wow I love the look of this. It makes me think of a cross between Rez and Space invaders... to top it off it all looks like a visualization plug-in for winamp or WMP, only much crazier and interactive. Nice!

He's probably most famous for 'Attack of the Mutant Camels,' which was an incredible game at the time.

To me, who was a big fan, this doesn't look like his best work. It's pretty sad actually, but to each his own.

That video is probably 30x larger than the actual game :P
Horray for the internets

Very colourful indeed. Although it doesn't look to have all that much depth But a winner is you! So i'll probably buy this game just for the hell of it

He wrote Tempest 2000 for the Jaguar and this is supposed to be a pseudo sequel.

. . . Space Giraffe?

Honestly.

Minter is a legendary programmer, and a terrible game designer. Anyone who talks about the Jaguar - or any of the "games" that appeared on it (with the possible exception of AVP) - with anything but disgust, clearly wasn't duped into buying one.

omg what a ravefest. :)

I've been diggin' the visualizor (TM) Jeff Minter did for the xbox360 since day one and i do appreciate his flalr for vivid colors, but somehow I was expecting something abit more orginal than a sequel to his on previous work.

Certainly looks a treat though. And the music was very fitting. If the price is right, I'll be sure to get it.

How old are you?
Ask any avid gamer older than the PS1 generation and they'll tell you that yes, the jaguar may have been a console lacking in power & support (from both atari and developers) but Jeff Minters Tempest was THE major reason for buying one.
Tempest 2K received amazing reviews and probably trippled the life of the machine.

The Jag was a decent system (hardware-wise in any case) and it had a small handful of quality games to premier on it, that any system would be lucky to get (AvP, Rayman, Mutant Penguins, Iron Soldier, etc.), but there can be little doubt that the Jag's "killer ap" was Tempest 2000. One of the top five games to release for any system that year, and the only one to stand up to the test of time. T2000 is still just as fun today as it was back 1994 . . . and the soundtrack still kicks ass.

Fast-forward to 2006 and Space Giraffe. Definitely (from the looks of things) not Minter's most original work, yet is the one piece that I have been the most anticipating for sometime now; what would Tempest 2000 look like on Xbox 360. Honestly, had Llamasoft made any other game as their inaugeral effort to Live Arcade, there would be no end of complaining from fans the world over about when we were going to see the latest update to the beloved Tempest. And I guess with recent turmoils at Atari, ownership of the Tempest name is probably up in the air right now. Not that this would stop Llamasoft from getting the game out to us. A name change and a few effects changes later, and Tempest 2000 is reborn as an 'original' IP. What is potentially going to be really sweet is if they bring back the multiplayer mode (both co-op and head-to-head), but now via online play. Also, what would be sweet is if Space Giraffe's backgrounds actually worked like an in-game visualizer to all your imported music and custom soundtracks.

Anyway, I hope Space Giraffe makes it out this holiday, I have been wanting this every since I heard Minter was creating Neon for the X360. And with luck, Space Giraffe will be the first of many new projects to come from Llamasoft for the Xbox 360.

Well, considering he made that as well I guess he has the right to do so.

And I do indeed own a copy of Tempest on the Jag still! Yay! I also have a sealed copy of AVP but that has nothing to do with this.;)

Nevermind how old I am, just know that I was old enough at the time of Jaguar's release to have been working full time, and old enough to have purchased one against all better judgment, based solely on my fond Atari memories. That should give you a rough idea of my age, but there's no need to flame me about it because I don't see the "brilliance" in the man's work that others do. Art is subjective, and in my very subjective opinion, the Jag was crap, and Minter needs to work for game developers, rather than be one himself.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he's a Legend , i'd go with he's very unique compared to all others! As for this game it looks like N20 for the playstation ... I can't see myself wanting to play this game over and over again it just gives me a headache after a while. I'll stick to Geometry wars for my crazy colored xbla game :)

I think your just doing the wrong drugs,... stick to acid & shrooms!
and incase it isn't obvious, this game is built with the Neon Light Synth inside of the 360, so you put in your favorite trippy ass glitch CD to watch the viz and now you have a game to play with.
