Of course, if we're speaking seriously, all real stealth fans know that Thief spanks both MGS and Splinter Cell by a huge margin :)
A good western stealth game puts any japanese anime game to shame, any day of the week. Just don't look at Violet Assasin, smh.
It got an 8 from Edge.
The mag is particularly impressed with protagonist Sam Fisher's ability to turn environments into 'torture chambers' at the press of a button.
'[Even] the presence of a piano suddenly fills the room with ominous potential' it reports.
It adds: 'The environments, at their best, are playgrounds for Fisher's lethal abilities, giving him every opportunity to outflank and outwit opponents who otherwise outgun him.'
It calls one particular chase around the Lincoln Memorial Ground 'heart-pumping', and praises the new, less-stealthy style of play. 'As Splinter Cell goes from covert to overt, a new-found dynamism emerges,' Edge reports.
However, the mag finds flaws in the games 'short' single-player campaign - and says that too much of the title is played in new atmospheric monocrome.
'But when Conviction hits its stride, the environments unlock the player's tactical ambitions in a way that's truly empowering,' it adds.

When I start favouring long-winded, convoluted cut-scenes and awkward attempts at humour, maybe then I'll prefer MGS.
But after the latest demo I wasn't as impressed as I was hoping to be. Maybe the final full game will lend a different/better experience. I'll rent it and test the waters.

No, I don't think you have.
And BTW, Splinter Cell, as technical and tactical as it wants to be, is plain BORING. A snore fest. The tongue-in-cheek humor, OTT action and crazy winding plot is what makes MGS worth-while and why it is THE stealth-action franchise to at the very least have some respect for.
Westernized games are too self-important to be any actual fun. Again, all those snarky snobby ass jabs at Japanese games is plain cultural bias bordering on xenophobia.
Don't forget, YOU were the one who brought up MGS in the very first post in a Splinter Cell thread essentially telling people they are wrong for preferring SC over MGS. Which is funny because apparently Western games are boring and aren't any fun. Makes me wonder why you were even in this thread to begin with.
It is just me or the stream does not work at all ? Can't see any videos
now back to things that matter, cant wait to play this game next week!

What you're doing is tossing a fight, while all I pretended to do was make an observation.
And it does make a HELL of a difference who came out first. Thief has nothing in common with Metal Gear or the Solid games for that matter. It's a first-person looter. The game mechanics that drive the SC franchise were first introduced by MGS.
And just to be clear: I LIKE Splinter Cell. It's just "argumentative" people like yourself that can't help the need to bash something with unintelligent and opinionated criticisms that piss me off. I prefer a game that, while coming across convoluted and confusing, attempts to tell an original enough story to a game that just contents itself to mimic The Bourne movies.
If you want to say that you for some reason or another prefer the SC games, do away with the negative connotation. It only makes you look like a biased tosser.
The rest of your post is hypocritical garbage as well. Your posts have been nothing but attacks filled with "unintelligent and opinionated criticisms"...criticizing people for being...opinionated? Not to mention the fact that one of my criticisms of the MGS series is how convoluted the story is, and two of your posts essentially agree with me.
Gotta bare in mind that 5hours to a reviewer playing the game on the easiest setting so he can get his review out the door may take you 10hrs to complete.. or, if you have the skill of somebody like my good self, it may take you 3hrs.. it's all subjective, not cast in stone.
Plus it needs to be remembered that theres bascially two campaigns shipping in this game.. the co-op's a fully structed campaign as well. And then theres other online modes beyond that.. all of which should equal more than 5hours i would think.
Oh..and you also get the Ghost recon beta
