Video PC Xbox 360

In case the previous videos was not enough, Ubisoft has released three new videos of Splinter Cell: Conviction. This time it's all about cooperation. The game will launch next Monday in North America and a couple of days later in Europe.

One thing to take note from this videos is how strongly influenced it is by Metal Gear Solid. And yet some people dare put Splinter Cell at a higher podium.

How DARE they! It's like they have a different opinion or something, but we know that cannot be...

Of course, if we're speaking seriously, all real stealth fans know that Thief spanks both MGS and Splinter Cell by a huge margin :)

A good western stealth game puts any japanese anime game to shame, any day of the week. Just don't look at Violet Assasin, smh.

Haha, this will be fun :)

It got an 8 from Edge.
Conviction is in reach of greatness. It's flaws stand out in the short singleplayer campaign, and it's tail end relies too much on the gunplay that the game otherwise relegates to a begrudging last resort. But when it hits it's stride, the enviroments unlock the player's tactical ambitions in a way that's truly empowering, launching you between shadow and light, discretion and aggression. In some ways it's sad to say goodbye to old, subtle Fisher, but as Splinter Cell goes from covert to overt, a new found dynamism emerges, happily driving players to return to it's vicious little sandbox battles, tempting them to obliterate enemies in ever slicker, quicker ways. And that's surely the hallmark of any true conviction: it bears repeating.
Edge has awarded Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction 8/10 in its latest lead review - claiming that the title is 'in reach of greatness'.

The mag is particularly impressed with protagonist Sam Fisher's ability to turn environments into 'torture chambers' at the press of a button.

'[Even] the presence of a piano suddenly fills the room with ominous potential' it reports.

It adds: 'The environments, at their best, are playgrounds for Fisher's lethal abilities, giving him every opportunity to outflank and outwit opponents who otherwise outgun him.'

It calls one particular chase around the Lincoln Memorial Ground 'heart-pumping', and praises the new, less-stealthy style of play. 'As Splinter Cell goes from covert to overt, a new-found dynamism emerges,' Edge reports.

However, the mag finds flaws in the games 'short' single-player campaign - and says that too much of the title is played in new atmospheric monocrome.

'But when Conviction hits its stride, the environments unlock the player's tactical ambitions in a way that's truly empowering,' it adds.

One thing to take note from actually playing the demo (or any previous Splinter Cell game, for that matter), is how much a better playing game Splinter Cell is to Metal Gear Solid. And yet some people dare to put blinders on to the fact that Splinter Cell is the game that Hideo Kojima, by his own admission, wanted Metal Gear Solid to be.

I hardly doubt this is gonna be a less than 8-10 hour game to me. I expect some cool moments never seen on the Splinter Cell Style of pacing.

Absolutely.

When I start favouring long-winded, convoluted cut-scenes and awkward attempts at humour, maybe then I'll prefer MGS.

Splinter cell and MGS are both great games. Neither are better or worse, as they are so vastly different and offer the player very different experiences. It just depdends on what you enjoy in your gaming experience. I tend to agree with Ron about why MGS isn't as appealing, but that doesn't mean i'm too blind to see why some other people might geek out about MGS's anime-esque over the topness (could have worded that better lol).

But after the latest demo I wasn't as impressed as I was hoping to be. Maybe the final full game will lend a different/better experience. I'll rent it and test the waters.

Who knows, but I foresee much replay value in it for me. You have no idea how much I enjoy the feeling of playing this thing. I've played the demo over and over. Can't wait to get the full game.

For sure. Especially since the MGS series has had some pretty fantastic gameplay portions, and some of the cutscenes do kick a ton of ass.

Another opinionated load of shit. Have you actually stopped to think that MGS PIONEERED stealth games?

No, I don't think you have.

And BTW, Splinter Cell, as technical and tactical as it wants to be, is plain BORING. A snore fest. The tongue-in-cheek humor, OTT action and crazy winding plot is what makes MGS worth-while and why it is THE stealth-action franchise to at the very least have some respect for.

Westernized games are too self-important to be any actual fun. Again, all those snarky snobby ass jabs at Japanese games is plain cultural bias bordering on xenophobia.

I liked that you prefaced your post with that.

Don't forget, YOU were the one who brought up MGS in the very first post in a Splinter Cell thread essentially telling people they are wrong for preferring SC over MGS. Which is funny because apparently Western games are boring and aren't any fun. Makes me wonder why you were even in this thread to begin with.
Have you actually stopped to think that MGS PIONEERED stealth games?
How is this even remotely relevant? Just because it came out a whole MONTH ahead of Thief, I have to enjoy playing it more than other stealth games? And honestly, what did I say that was so offensive? I said MGS features "long-winded, convoluted cut-scenes and awkward attempts at humour." You even said the game has "tongue-in-cheek humor....and crazy winding plot." Po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to. Personal taste will dictate how someone reacts to those elements.

Well, don't words in my mouth. I dont recall having said that opinions are wrong. But dashingly calling out "faults" on the franchise that made it possible for a game like Splinter Cell to even exist, and turning a blind eye on the obvious faults SC has (and that by the looks of it, will help keep it in the shadow of MGS), is outright idiotic.

What you're doing is tossing a fight, while all I pretended to do was make an observation.

And it does make a HELL of a difference who came out first. Thief has nothing in common with Metal Gear or the Solid games for that matter. It's a first-person looter. The game mechanics that drive the SC franchise were first introduced by MGS.

And just to be clear: I LIKE Splinter Cell. It's just "argumentative" people like yourself that can't help the need to bash something with unintelligent and opinionated criticisms that piss me off. I prefer a game that, while coming across convoluted and confusing, attempts to tell an original enough story to a game that just contents itself to mimic The Bourne movies.

If you want to say that you for some reason or another prefer the SC games, do away with the negative connotation. It only makes you look like a biased tosser.

Boom. I didn't put words in your mouth.

The rest of your post is hypocritical garbage as well. Your posts have been nothing but attacks filled with "unintelligent and opinionated criticisms"...criticizing people for being...opinionated? Not to mention the fact that one of my criticisms of the MGS series is how convoluted the story is, and two of your posts essentially agree with me.
And it does make a HELL of a difference who came out first.
Nope. It doesn't. Not at all. Just because a game may have pioneered a genre doesn't mean I have to like it. It's completely silly to think otherwise. Sure, respect is due for the innovation, but that's the extent of it.

They said Uncharted was only 5 hours too..and that lacked multiplayer. I've seen you rave about Uncharted enough here.

Gotta bare in mind that 5hours to a reviewer playing the game on the easiest setting so he can get his review out the door may take you 10hrs to complete.. or, if you have the skill of somebody like my good self, it may take you 3hrs.. it's all subjective, not cast in stone.

Plus it needs to be remembered that theres bascially two campaigns shipping in this game.. the co-op's a fully structed campaign as well. And then theres other online modes beyond that.. all of which should equal more than 5hours i would think.

Oh..and you also get the Ghost recon beta
