Developer Diary Xbox 360 PS3

Electronic Arts takes us on an in-game tour through the Himalayas, Alaska, and Siberia in this producer video. Todd Batty and Geoff Coates also talk about how the NASA topographical satellite data was used to create "the base foundations for mountains".

I really hope they take away the annoying thing that changes the world after every trick, or that you can turn it off.

Besides that it looks cool

It's shaping up rather nicely. Feeling really hopeful about this title.

Still firmly on my rental list since i'm not sold yet. Sure it has a ton of mountains, but where are the cool stages with cities and pin-ball machines in the middle of them? I guess what i miss most is the festival/competition aspect. It all looks quite desolate and lonely. I want to see other guys racing alongside you, fireworks, crowd stands, massive screens and banners, the things that made it feel like you was taking part in a crazy extreme sport event. Now it looks very "you and the mountain" which i aint a fan of. I dunno. As i said i'm not sold yet. If it doesnt have split screen and have the classic control scheme it doesnt matter either way.

Looks fantastic and immensely fun. I loved Untracked in the first SSX for the freedom it gave, and this looks like that on steroids. The addition of avalanche gameplay and the fact that you're boarding down actual real landscapes is impressive. Looks superb and a hell of a lot more interesting than just a straight re-hash of the garish track gameplay of the first games, which is what some people seem to be clamouring for for some odd reason. No thanks. Give me something fresh.

Wow, are you actually wishing for a game to be more "americanized"? Never thought I would see the day!

Personally, I really like the new direction. Never was a big fan of all the WAY over the top cheesy festival (Dirt 2) style atmosphere. As a snowboarder, I'm glad they are just focusing on the mountain as the main attraction. As the video shows, you don't need animated snowmen, EXTREME attitude, roller coasters, and pointless, out of place obstacles to make interesting environments. I had no idea this was shaping up so well!

It does look like those games, though. Only less linear. It's clearly still SSX.

MASSIVE!! ... by far the best thing I heard about this new SSX game so far ... interesting ... if we could pick places around the world to make tracks that would be even better!

You weren't impressed by Untracked the first time you seen it? I'd find that hard to believe.

as a one off additional track, with the finished symphony music playing, yes, it was decent (mercury city meldown impressed me more, as did all the real tracks in the past games). as an entire game? FUCK NO.

i dont mind this "realistic" mountain approach as long as it is intersperced with a LOT of manmade structures and that party/sports event atmosphere. the course with the red pipeline shows promis, but it's not enough.

i just miss the colourfull crazyness that had a really fun atmosphere. now it's a little bit shaun white...which kinda depresses me. i mean, i love the idea of the "deadly descents", with the low oxygen, the avelances etc, i love the idea of the icepicks and squirel suits. i just wish it was all in a package that was stylistically more SSX.

i think it's pretty clear that this game has gone through a bit of a splinter cell re-think due to fan backlash tho. this is blatantly not the game the devs intended on making (thank god). and certainly not the game that matches the initial announcement trailer. hell, i dont think they even planned on having the characters return. so i appreciate that it has a lot of elements i liked about SSX, i just wish it would take a step further and become a game i would LOVE.
