Xbox 360 PS2 Xbox

Here is the first trailer of Superman Returns, giving you a fix of red pants over trouser (and we now you were dying for it). Anyway, even if this video is totally CGI, and even if we would have preferred a real in-game trailer, this one is quite enjoyable to watch. Enjoy the show.

Maybe it is because I remember the SM game on the N64 and how there has never been a good superman game... so call me bias... but WHERE was the gameplay again in this video?? This video has no gameplay / footage that will represent what the gamer sees. As far as I can tell this is not even like a replay mode of actual gameplay, just a theatrical trailer... rendered.

So the only thing to comment on is the graphics. If you take off the rendering quality (CGI) and look at the quality (or lack there of) of everything and it is clearly a bland city, with little detail. Very few detailed textures, just a landscape of skyscrapers, many identical in look, with boring repeating windows. True, skyscrapers can be like that, but they also have a bit of "detail", even if repetitive, that makes them feel solid and alive. These feel VERY bland. So if this game is to succeed it will need to have GREAT gameplay and make excellent use of the huge world--I expect to be able to fly out to space whenever I want and look down when I please.

The missile smoke looked good, as did Supes cape. The size of the city also are nice. But for a CGI with "game assets" (hahah yeah, that means the textures are similar, but higher quality and they will shrink them down later... ditto the poly count) I am left scratching my head.

I would not be so critical if it were not for the fact it is a poor CGI movie... with no gameplay!

How can it be CGI, CGI should be above this?

not sure about if this is true or not but at gametrailers.com, on the small description of this trailer it said it was made using the ingame 360 game engine!

Not sure if that's true or not, or where they got that from! Just thought I'd mention

This trailer is really badly staged and cut, but it does give us glimpses at what we'll be able to do in the game.

- it shows off how the character can combine different powers to battle enemies.
- we see destructable environments and an ecosystem that reacts to the damage. folks running around, getting crushed etc.
- hopefully we're seeing how seemless the gameworld will be. it would be cool to be able to fly anywhere in the city without worry of having to preload from section to section.

has it been said if this game is being built on the 360 and then ported to other systems? i'd like to see them use the hard drive to keep loads to a minimum.

metropolis looks about as big as the city in the last spiderman-game (from EA too?). And the city there had no "loading screens"... so i'm pretty sure you can fly anywhere in metropolis (from the beginning) without ever seeing a "loading screen".

According to IGN it is prerendered sing in game assets (meaning they are using actual character models and stuff from the game and sprucing them up for presentation) so 'totally CGI is not correct.

this is one on those target videos.... where they make the graphs similar to the final version, thats why its not mind blowing cgi...

but this is made by the same guys as madden, and we all saw the madden target video, so who knows how it will look!?

We've all seen better rendered CGI than this folks. We've also seen footage of Gears of War, specifically the Zero Hour footage. We've seen better rendered cities in Project Gotham Racing than this Superman teaser.

We know what the Xbox 360 is capable of doing. Why wouldn't it be capable of pulling this demonstration off?

I really think this is a target demonstration and not just an eye candy trailer. And we've seen better eye candy than this.

I can't see a superman game either..seems like hardware limitation would come into play.

I mean, you would have villians destroying cities, people running around, traffic..basically the consequence of that fight, all of this has to happen at the same time when superman is fighting a villian.

Plus, the destruction the fight could cause..plus, things superman has to do to stop the city from being destroyed..such as stopping planes that are crashing, missiles.

Plus, this guy has superpowers that could have devastating consequences, sure the city is on fire,..superman blows hard, and people are flying!

I doubt EA is the right team to make a superman game.. you really need someone who has interest and passion.. Did EA do spiderman 2? or ultimate spiderman? those games rocked..if EA did it, then i guess i'm wrong..EA could pull it off.

I just doubt there is hardware available to make such a game possible with flauless framerate and such.

You could even do it like, the affect superman causes on the people..do they love him? fear him?

Oh well, i'm sure this game's review will tell me if it's good or not.. until then..the movie is coming out..and looks brilliant.

xmen 3, superman returns, mission impossible 3.. mmm blockbusters!
