PS3

Capcom also released these eight images, beside the old three ones, from Tokyo Game Show and Devil May Cry 4. No wonder people say it was one of the best looking games down there.

No doubt it looks good, but it seems most people who played it thought the gameplay offered nothing new.
This isn't to say that combat was uninteresting. It is, instead, overwhelmingly familiar, enough so that all of our (admittedly meager) skills were instantly applicable when we started playing, since most of the move sets are apparently identical to DMC3.

Looks good, but I think Virtua Fighter 5 is the best looking from what I've seen. And it's the only game that makes me jealous that I won't have a PS3... at least till the price comes down a few pegs

It's DMC 3 with a new coat of paint. Plus you play a pansy Nero, going the direction of Raiden from MGS2? I saw that Dante might be playable from image 4. Don't really care for DMC series, IMHO not as deep as NG. Now Itagaki stop fooling around and give us NG2!

Some of your complaints, though obviously founded in complete disregard for what the series has done in the past, borne from not having played any of them, presumably - are actually kind of valid.

Yes, screens and graphics are underwhelming so far. Yes, Nero immediately comes across as the "whiny younger brat" devised only to provide contrast to Dante's coolness. However, letting that convince you that the game isn't going to be awesome means turning a blind eye to previous installments.

DMC has never disappointed with its characters, stories nor environments. They've always been devilishly stylish, over the top bursts of coolness, and there's nothing indicating that this would be any less than just that.

If you're new to the series, there's nothing on DMC4 yet that will catch your attention or in any way convey what they're all about. I find the trailer for DMC3 much more effective in doing that.

Great graphics, dumb series. The original was good, the sequel sucked, the prequel was okay. This looks like the sequel in terms of gameplay, only much much prettier

Yeah, DMC2 was super weak, I don't think anyone disagrees there, but prequel "okay"? If anything, that's the most relentlessly tough, balanced and tweaked version of the combat engine, and easily the best story of all three.

This should look alot better on release. At least I hope it does. It really doesnt look that impressive. Ive been watching some other nextgen trailers recently and this really doesnt look that good. For example lost planet looks much better than this. So im expecting the team to have it looking at least as good as lost planet on release. PS3 still has alot of persuading to do, especially in europe and also in japan with the wii and 360 with its mistwalker rpgs. Im expecting all this competition to give sony a big kick up the arse, lets hope it whips them into shape and they get supporting the devs and pushing for great titles.

I can hope right?

Lost Planet?! Lost Planet is devoid of any sense of artistic style, completely generic and derivative. It's two parts Half-Life to one part <insert name of any run-of-the-mill futuristic sci-fi schmup>, and then cover all that in snow.

And, I see nothing from a technical standpoint where Lost Planet outperforms DMC4.

Uh, I guess we weren't watching the same TGS coverage... :|

How are they not supporting devs? Nearly every major Japanese 3rd-party is on board with the PS3 as are most Western developers/publishers. Pushing for great titles?! You mean titles like MGS4, FFXIII, MGS4, VF5, Tekken 6, et cetera.

Ugh, delusional... seriously.

er you really dont no sony track record of not giving thier developers the correct tools and giving them hard dev kits to program with. They also offer little support to developers having a hard time using them. They basically give you the devkit thats hard to program for then expect you to work miracles. Also I see no new titles in the list you just gave me. Are we saying the only good games out for ps3 are sequals?! lol

Personally, I think you're both delusional.

Graphically, Lost Planet has DMC4 for breakfast if you disregard their stylistic merits. If you don't think so you just haven't been watching the right trailers nor played the demo.

Devs flock the Sony platforms and they'd do that even if they got even more of a groin kicking from Sony. There's where the money is, there's where the biggest market share lies. MS are being nice to devs because they need more support, not because they're such good samaritans.

There really is no need for more bantering, it'll just be reduced to name calling before long.

I'm going to have to disagree with you Simon--and we were doing so well!

I'd say DMC4 has the upper hand, and from what I understand atleast twice the framerate? Sounds like it wins--now which is a better game--that's a bit more subjective..personally I'm pretty excited for both.

DMC3 was great--and Lost Planet looks awesome. Can't we all just get along? :P

Well, the surprise twist is that I think DMC4 looks a lot better, but I base that on character design, themes, subject matter and the lot of that stuff.

Technically though, in Lost Planet, when you're zooming around in a mech with ENORMOUS swarms of bug-y ew-ness and what looks like giant tremors coming out of the ground, I can't quite feel that Nero's clobbering of big puppets can compare.

Why should I care about how easy or difficult it is for developers to make a game or whether they're given "technical support" or not? I play the games; I don't make them.

And I listed sequels because they have established track records. :|

By all accounts, Resistance is almost faultless, but since I haven't played the game or its predecessor (Disruptor was released ages ago), I didn't include it in my list...

Sounds like you're comparing gameplay there. DMC and Lost Planet may both be "action" games, but, gameplay-wise, DMC has more in common with the likes of God of War, Ninja Gaiden, Heavenly Sword, etc. Indeed, DMC started this whole combo-based "stylish hard action" trend.

Um, I'm not comparing gameplay, but sure enough gameplay directly affects what's going on on screen, and thanks to the nature of Lost Planet's combat/gameplay, it allows for more technically impressive things. Like tons of flying bugs and giant creatures rolling around while you're jumping around shooting missiles that explode in a cascade of motion blur and flying debris.

I know what DMC is like, and I think I made that pretty obvious with my defending it a couple of posts back. I'm not taking the piss here, mind, I even prefer DMC. :)

So you'd prescribe more pyrotechnics/particle effects for DMC4? Certainly that Balrog-like boss qualifies as a giant creature... and it comes with some nice fire and haze effects. Hmm...
