Oh noes, a week! I'll probably just get it day one, learn the basics and be fully prepared for co-op by the time it arrives.

Don't get me wrong KORNdog, I'm not arguing with you, but "bright", "colourful" and "stylistically awesome" are the reasons I'm buying Fable 2. I don't give a damn how technical it is behind the scenes, I'm not reeeaally after cutting edge gameplay as long as it's just good solid fun.

i was talking visually. not gameplay wise. stylistically its awesome, as you said its the reason you're buying the game, but the game isnt technically great looking, in terms of poly count or texture resolution. as i said tho, im looking forward to it.

Actually Fable 2 is cutting edge technically, textures are great, polygon counts is through the roof, has the best looking forests i have seen this generation too

Also there is nothing technically not impressive about dynamic shadowed light beams, stunningly modelled and detailed trees and foliage, 50+ NPC's on screen all self shadowed, houses without a loading time like Oblivion etc

It is a artistic and technical marvel actually

lol, no, it really isnt

but then that doesnt matter when artistically it looks so great. art style can make up for technical shortcomings. so its all good

how so, if i was i wouldnt be supporting the game and the developers by buying the limited edition. and i certainly wouldnt be complimenting its awesome fairy tale art style. but the game doesnt shine technically, you only have to look at the screens to see that. but your right, im sorry for having an opinion. the game looks amazing and is the second coming of christ....there, that make you feel better?

it does look good, great even...but from an artistic standpoint. technically the game has serious LOD, OK textures, aliasing issues etc etc. its an OK looking game graphically. but i dont think it comes anywhere close to many other games out there currently and coming soon. but as i've already said, the art style makes up for a lot of its visual shortcomings becasue its completely different to anything else out there. so it makes it all ok. i mean, if this had an art style that was very much set in reality, i think overall the game would look pretty damn average. as is tho, with the fairy tale art style. it looks great, and very unique to boot

no, it is disappointing graphically in screen shots for sure.. some are even compairable to fable 1 screens. In motion though it looks alot better, theres a sense that the world is alive..and it has a nice tim burton art design to it. One thing that i personaly believe distracts is the last generation level of fog that follows you around.. i dont see how thats acceptable these days, and maybe a sign that instead of building their own engine and wasting a few years they should of stuck with the unreal 3 one as originally planned. Not saying we would of had the game sooner.. but we would of definatly had a working co-op on the disc.

I really do not see how

- dynamic shadowed light beams
- shaders everywhere
- translucency in tree leaves
- shadows from every single leaf on every other
- 50+ NPC's on screen self shadowed
- huge landscapes fulled with detailed trees, forests, cities and houses with no loading

.. is not considered technically impressive

Actually Fable 2 is one of the most technically impressive games this gen, they just forcus on other things than best textures, and that is exactly what makes the art look so sweet

I'm with KORNdog on this one. Artistically, the game looks phenomenal, and I think it's going to looks TONS better on a nice hdtv and in motion. Technically, however,... it really doesn't look like it can hold a candle to Gears 2, KZ2, or RE5.

That said, it's going to be one of the few SP games I actually pick up because if it's anything like the first, I know I'll enjoy it tons.

Okay?
Do you look at a painting based on how many paint-molecules there are, or based on the actual artwork?
Do you listen to music because of how many vibrating atoms are generated in your room, or because of the art in the song itself?
Do you read a book based on how many words there are, or based on how the story is?

Nuff said, i think i made my point :)
Technical stuff is pointless. Its the artistic style that matters, and its all that matters.
Look at the old over-used-in-comparisons WoW, it has craptacularly low-res textures and low-poly models, yet some enviroments look truly amazing, artistically.

Obviously newer gen games are gonna look nicer than old-gen games, due to better technology etc. Such as softer lighting, softer grass and trees, less flat shaders and stuff.
But comparing current-gen to current-gen tech is pointless. Its what they do with the tech that matters.
I'd rather look at Fable 2 than Crysis, which is a technical marvel, but still looks like shit. Its like comparing a painting with a blueprint. Blueprints have no soul.

The problem is that technically surpasses everything except maybe Gears 2, just not in the way simple gamers understand

What people see is textures and shaders, but does Gears 2 have some huge free roaming forests, with trees everywhere, translucency in leaves, dynamic shadowed light beams and real time shadows from each leaf ?

Nope, even Gears 2 is behind Fable 2 technically, it only wins in textures and maybe shaders, only, but that is it

Try those pics, and see if you can find anything similar on any other game, only Crysis has that kind of environments in free roaming
