Xbox 360 PS3

Big day (or even days) for the first 10 minutes. So let's start with the very moody Far Cry 2.
Update: Second part is up!

Have you ever been to Africa?

Nah, but I played Far Cry 2.

Good enough.

Haha.

Seems interesting. The whole waking up to see your enemy and not being able to do anything is such a cliche these days, but it still came off pretty cool.

this game's visuals are way overrated. BTW i play this game on my PC connected to a 46" samsung 1080p hdtv, with max settings, 8xAA, at native 1080p 60+FPS. don't get me wrong the game looks great but not on the same level as crysis, killzone 2, gears 2 or resistance 2 for e.g.
the intriging thing though is that the rendering is mostly procedural, which accounts for its small size of just over 3 gigs. since the games supports procedural rendering(4d graphics according to some) i was surprised to hear of the framerate issues with the ps3, especially since procedural rendering requires a lot of processing power(where the cell shines), i guess optimisation is the name of the game.
sorry about the long comment.
*back to playing the game, and so far so good, also the AI seems in tact*.

Maybe on PC could be better but I think the console versions are so great in term of graphics. I´m enjoying the game, very nice jungle and sabana environments

I agree, PC here though. Its absolutely amazing in every regard, gameplay, graphics, sound, AI, weapon feedback.. Its just everything Crysis failed at.
Which is ART. This game actually looks like a painting, a masterpiece. Not a sterile technical gfx-engine promotion.
And yet, it still looks better technically too, nicer thicker grass, nicer trees with individual branches that break off, no grainy blocky pixellated leaves. Amazing character shaders that actually looks like skin, not plastic. Character models that are smoother than anything ive seen before..
And its actually playable, runs extremely smooth. I could go on, but i wont.

Another example of how new developers, actually impact a game franchize in a GOOD way. Old devs of games are overrated.

I'm playing the PC game as well, and while I love it so far (see: Main Forum) I wouldn't say that it looks better than Crysis. Crysis actually had better art direction, and there's more in the details. Visually, however, this game is very nice and the fact that it actually does run so well.. well that's pretty welcome. I can run it @ 1920x1200 + 4XAA smooth as butter on ultra settings. Can't quite say the same for Crysis.... even though it still looks better.

But.. apples and oranges really. I love both games for very different reasons.

when it comes to character models the only game that's in the same league with crysis is MGS4. i would give you that to run crysis with all the bells and whistles requires a godlike pc(i could never play crysis with the same setting i'm playing FC2 with a playable framerate), which is my major problem with the game(poor optimisation) but they tried with warhead.
the AI is nowhere near that of crysis either, it's not bad, but it's definitely not as great.

when it comes to art direction and gameplay it's debatable, i guess it's just a matter of personal preference, i like both crysis' gameplay and art direction.

another graphical feature i always look out for in games is fluid effects, and FC2's suck, when the water is shot at, walked through, or interacted with in any way, it looks awful, even FEAR has better water effects. resistance 2 and gears 2 are sporting some really promising water effects, i can't wait to see them in the final build of the games.

i guess we can agree to disagree, but the bottom line is that imo FC2 is a good looking game but certainly not the best.

?????

Crysis has incredible art...this game has a bigger scale, but there is no way the graphics are better... The last level in warhead is absolutely epic..... goddamn..

Still this looks nice, Ill be able to play it on my pc tomorrow hopefully. I enjoy these open world games!

Yep, that was the deciding factor indeed.
I find that EXTREMELY frustrating and just ruins everything for me.

Well it depends on what ur equipment is and what weapons you are using...
im a stealthy bastard and they cant even see me in the dark while im wasting their buddies right beside them.... buuuutttt if u go out in the day with a sniper with no equipment camo upgrade then they will absolutely shoot your ass even if your behind a bush lol

Yes, a little, but it runs remarkably well for such a hugely detailed open world game. It also runs at 960x1080p, which makes it look pretty sharp.

I think it's one of the best looking games on the PS3, perhaps *the* best in places.
