The Last Remnant has been released today in all countries, a first for a Square-Enix RPG. Like many others I didn't expect much from this game, so it's a surprise for me to have enjoyed the first hour so much. And even technically, especially for a UE3 game from a Japanese developer, the game isn't too bad with so far a quite good framerate during the exploration parts. It sure slows down during fights, but since it's not realtime it's not such an issue. More videos tonight and tomorrow!
Update 3: Part 4 in now available. I'm done for the moment, but maybe some more videos showing more of the game will follow over the week-end.

Anyway, Thanks Blim for the Video. totally unexpected :D Im actually impressed by the voice acting, very nice!!! and the combat system is looking very interesting too. I would have gotten this but Tomb Raider is arriving tomorrow so wont have time to play it anyway. Will get it next week though, should keep me busy until Prince of persia is released.
Looking forward to more videos ;)

And don't bring others down with your opinion. Because in their opinion. Your views would be invalid or as Van of Abyss would put it; "An empty argument".

Commented on 2008-11-20 22:58:58Some of the exploration stuff doesnt work, the walking / strafe looks horrible and totally doesnt fit any jrpg, not when the movement has been so clinically solid in all of the past square games.
Also, whats with the whole walking on water thing? Doesn't seem to be much interaction there and if they cant even do basic water right it doesnt bode well for whatever other shortcuts/laziness there is.
I so want to be proven wrong, im dying for something to spend my money on (i have a card for a game store that needs used up soon) and was hoping this would be it.

Clicks on video 3, watches for 4min, WOOH gameplay! Meh....
Now please dont call me a Halo-boy, i just like some actual gameplay in my rpg games. :)
This game looks like a big "meh" in my book.

Commented on 2008-11-21 02:27:00Yea framerate is really bad in the fights but I see it the same way as blim, its turn base so it does not affect gameplay.
I greatly enjoyed ME and thats real time with horrible framerate during fights :)
I'm looking forward to it especially since my XBox just crashed the Mirror's Edge DVD and I got nothing to play =(

Commented on 2008-11-21 12:01:05-The texture loading.
-Some framerate issues, mostly in combat.
-The camera and run animatons of the main character when you control him...
-The Soundtrack... some decent track but in general...MEH. Music in Infinite Undiscovery was better (and It wasen´t the best Soundtrack from Sakuraba)
In other hand, there´s some good points:
-Cut scenes are very well done, and nice facial animations.
-Voice acting It´s not bad at all.
-Graphics are good with some nice (tipical Unreal 3) textures in some parts, and character models are well done too.
-But one of the most important things in an rpg, the combat sistem. I like very much, I must say it (Even with the framerate issues). I have to say too that I prefer turn based combat than real time battle, I loved Lost Odyssey combat and I´m enjoying combats in The Last Remmant.
I think It´s a game of 7.8 or 8 (by now), but I vave not finished the game, so I can´t do a final review.

Commented on 2008-11-21 15:03:12It's a very good rpg... but...
Textures loadings are terrible =( Everywhere in the game.. in combat.. out combat.. cut scenes..
Still a good game..
