Xbox 360

Midway and Epic Games have completed their work on Unreal Tournament 3 on Xbox 360, and we're glad to have the game before its release. It will hit the streets in Europe and the US next week, so enjoy the first mission in the singleplayer campaign.

Unfortunately I never got to try the Playstation 3 or PC version, so I will have to leave out the most interesting part: comparison between the versions. I can say though, that the framerate holds up well and the game looks fantastic.

The Xbox 360 version is released 8 months after the earlier mentioned two, and features the same maps and developer-created content, plus five exclusive maps and a two player split-screen mode.

You can play the campaign mode by yourself or up to four friends, which consists of a story shown through video sequences between the missions. The Instant Action mode lets you play against bots using your prefered settings, including a big bunch of different difficulty settings.

The bots work well, the harder difficulties aren't all about the enemies doing headshots from large distances as it usually is, they move well and do tactical moves to take you out. You will see more of this in the video below, as I finish off the introduction of the game in Normal difficulty. We will post another video closer to its release showing more of the campaign mode. Let us know in the comments section if you want to see any particular map in action too!

Also, the video below is 480p. I got a 720p card (thereof the 720p images), but my processor is unable to handle video capturing in 720p. This will change soon though, so hopefully 480p is good enough for now and a week or two from now.

Awesome footage.

It's impressive how EPIC managed to get rid of the texture pop up in the Xbox 360 version. Something that even the PS3, with a game installation couldn't handle as well.

This is probably, overall, the best looking game in any console right now. Maybe matched by MGS4, but the butter smooth framerate gives this one the edge in my opinion.

360 version looks ok here, did they ever manage to strike a deal with Microsoft for custom content though? It's such a big part of the series it would be a shame to miss out on such a huge feature of the PC/PS3 versions.

Played it today and wasn't impressed, actually I was bored to death and got back playing BF:BC again. The graphics may be good but I don't like the art at all, the gameplay seems dated as well...

Don't judge the game by this footage, this game is SOOO much better online. Great stuff here though. gotta admit I'm a sucker for SP, even if it isn't particularly deep or anything

How do you know PS3 version is superior if you haven't seen the 360 version yet?

Hello gamersyde.com,
I was wondering if we could create a comparative between ut3 on ps3/360?

Dated gameplay. Couldn't have said it better myself. Gears and other titles brought so much to the table, I just can't go back to old-school UT.

ignore Korndog, he seems to be the village idiot around these parts.

Also Epic have gone on record saying that they'll bring the most popular mods to the 360 version via dlc...so thats one way around it i guess.

Indeed. You can check it out in the Xbox 360 review of this game at Eurogamer. They also mention it.

It could also be because they had almost 6 extra months to polish the game. It really doesn't look any different than the PS3 version to me.

well seeing as the ps3 is superior hardware it really shouldnt but if it performs better then thats a plus in my book.

and charge you for it, and that is the answer to your question, what the PC/ps3 has is an infinate pool of maps and skins and mods, all for free. the 360 is limited before you ever buy it.

i mean, i dunno about anyone else, but playing the destructable lego map as samus, killing snake, master chief, marcus fenix and cloud is what makes the game fun

Im playing this now, mate at gamestation got me a copy early :D

It certainly runs smoother than the ps3 version. But the unreal engine has always had problems with cell so its not suprising really. I hope some of the more popular mods come to the 360 because that is one major flaw in the 360 version.

Having said that I think UT3 is at home on the 360. The controller is much better than the ps3 one for FPS, the framerate never drops, texture popin is only present on level load and its on live where all my friends are.

Exactly ! Why do all people think that the PS3 has superior hardware ? So when do we see this advantage ? Maybe in 5 years or what ? Lol, then I will play with Xbox720 or else.
It's everywhere the same: If you are shouting loud enough, like Sony is always doing, then a lot of stupid people are manipulated by that ! Blinded is the right word.

I have both the 360 and PS3 versions of UTIII and both have texture pop in issues. The 360 versions take slightly longer to load the textures at the start of the level where it's most noticeable but I've seen several instances of texture pop in while playing the game too. In that respect it's exactly the same as the PS3 version, only the 360's visuals are ever so slightly nicer and the game seems to run better. Also the 360 version supports 17 player matches on and offline, one more than the PS3 version. Apart from the lack of Character Customisation and user-mods, made up for slightly by the addition of new maps and characters, it's the same excellent game.
