Indie Russian studio CheerDealers and Alawar Entertainment have announced the Steam release of Distrust, a top-down sci-fi survival game inspired by classic film The Thing. A rescue team and their helicopter crash in the Arctic but fortunately for the survivors they are near an abandoned scientific base. The player can choose 2 out of 15 characters, each with their own skills. While fighting the cold and scavenging supplies, the player will have to find out across randomly generated levels why the base's residents disappeared. You are on the alert but the more you stay awake the more chances it will trigger Distorted Reality. For you survivors' sanity, it will go from disturbing noises to dangerous hallucinations, where you can't tell reality from twisted fantasy. The game also features four different endings. Screens and videos inside.

Looks neat.

I still have the official "The Thing" 2002 game for PC. It plays a bit like "Desert Storm"
And features Trust mechanisms. It was a sequel to the movie.

I still have that game as well. It was a very nice game. And the trust mechanic is something I hope more games experiment with, most cases when someone betrays you is a plot point, but it would be nice to have something building in realtime.

Mafia 3 did this to some extent, but it wasn't in-depth and you really needed to go out of your way for a lieutenant to betray you. Some old cRPGs did this well, but it never moved on to newer generations.

Another great mechanic is the sanity from Eternal Darkness, was great in the game, but rarely ever used again. Closest thing - and maybe an evolution - is the sanity mechanic in Darkest Dungeon, which works really well. Would love to see an open world Action-Adventure or RPG with one of these systems.
