PC Xbox 360

2K Games releases a new video of Bioshock, showcasing all the different effects used to represent water in the game. Needless to say, it looks gorgeous. And be aware that water will look the same, be it on PC or X360, with or without DX10. 2K also took the time to make an interview of two Irrational employees, Stephan Alexander, FX Artist, et Jesse Johnson, Graphics Programmer, explaining how they managed to create all these terrific water effects.

With water effects this great, why not throw in a water monster or a transluscent enemy?

Those water effects are amazing. I also love the atmosphere of the game; it is my personal belief that the atmosphere of a game can either make it a good or bad game.

It looks fantastic and all, but it's not dynamic. Not one developer has tried to tackle dynamic water yet; and when they do, then they'll have my attention.

I would expect a game that takes place under water to have fantastic looking water.

Agreed with hat. Of course this looks impressive, but I'd like to really see the roaring, intimidating power of water for a change. Like opening a door and suddenly being blasted with a mini-tsunami.

Excellent! There is hope! Too bad there's not much info on it though, eg. video showing its capabilities...but it's something I will keep my eye on.

I picked up a copy of Xbox World 360 magazine yesterday, and Hydrophobia is featured on page 80. The writer has obviously seen the game running, and from what he has writen, it looks like they really do have what they are claiming - he basically says it's "the worlds greatest water" - and the screen shots back it up. I still want to see in running in video form - but the article has pretty much convinced me that they do have this engine working.
