GSY Tech PS4

A new patch was released on the PS4 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, bringing it to its 1.04 version. Among other things, it finally fixed the camera movement, which now looks perfectly smooth. Unfortunately, the game still doesn't use triple buffering, which results in heavy drop at 20 frames per second every time the game can't hold a steady 30 fps.

This video makes me wonder.. are CD Projekt even aware of this problem? Do they even know that the frame rate issues on PS4 is mainly caused by double buffering?

Well I'm glad I sold my PS4 in favor of a gaming PC. Don't have to deal with this bs.

I'm glad i sold my PC in favor of PS4 so i don't have to deal with Steam anymore but Witcher 3 performance is at times horrific. You must be wierd to deny it, PS4 is obviously lacking in horsepower department. Other than that i found PS4 vibe to be more elegant, creative & clean compared to noisy & cluttered PC. Community is less toxic and more oriented toward appreciating actual games rather than circle-jerking around 'performance' & imaginary master race movement. Those who're into Sony ecosystem know what i mean.

Why is triple buffering such a problem these days? Especially on PC. The WIN+L fix is getting tiresome.
At least you can fix it. On console you are screwed unless the devs patch it.

I actually like Sony. I've owned every single PS console since the very first. I might still get it once there's enough quality exclusives on the system but nowadays gaming PC is a must for me. And it's not just about graphics. (although I do love playing in 21:9 @ 3440x1440) Playing every game @ 60fps with buttery smooth gameplay and low input lag is just so much better than 20-30fps bs.

This game is the best game from the last years. Almost 100 hours in, finished the main-quest and still addicted to it. IMO it tops GTA in story, because so many quests are emotionally invoving and written so well, felt that the last (brilliant) time with The Last of Us Remastered.

Play Witcher 3 on Xbox One though, but the 30+ fps stuttering is gone with 1.03, cannot wait for 1.04 for that potion filter. Nice addition, as well as the bigger font, hapy!

Update: Too bad Microsoft takes that long for certification, where PC and PS4 players are having the new patch already :(

Shame the PS4 cannot handle this game properly...how about changing the game to 900p and locked 30fps? Or for those that prefer resolution to gameplay give us the 2 options

Even more praise from me:

.) NEVER have I played a game, where choices matter that much. It changes the story in a profound way - very good work.
.) So addictive, you just cannot stop. Got a lot into trouble with my wife the last 2 weeks ... hahahaha
.) Brilliant atmosphere all the time, what an amazing achievement for that Polish team.

Framerate is nowhere near solid when in swamps or raining....which is a real shame, especially after the visual downgrades. Biggest issues they really need to fix though are the terrible long loading times on the ps4, the poor target lock system - which is simply broken really when there's more than 3 enemies attacking you, and lastly the clumsy 'hit detection' when picking up loot.

All these little niggles (coupled with a few crashes and glitches) take off a few points for me in what is actually a really good and interesting game so far...and one that is still really pretty for the most part till framerate distracts. It's testament that it's a good game that i'm still wanting to keep playing it in between spewing hatred at it whilst waiting through another long loading screen. It just obviously should have been delayed a bit longer.

Are you aware that you can skip the story synopsis during load times? I use X1 controller on PC and always press X repeatedly during load times and it only takes 4-5 seconds to load the game. I doubt the loading times are that quick on PS4 but it's worth a try.

what I meant: for a small team compared to the big AAA-Teams of huger publishers. Didn't want it to sound racist.

Sadly, the technical release quality is in sharp contrast with the sublime nature of this game. It still feels alpha or beta in some points and it's really unimaginable how certain things like hit detection of looting, framerate @20fps, lack of hud customization, loading times etc. are omitted still from patching. Waited longer than usual before buying it but should have waited another half year I guess.

One of the very few games that makes me want to go through the monitor inside the game world. It's perhaps the best looking game I've ever played when you count its technical merits and art style.

eerm yes...I'm aware you can skip the story synopsis at the start of the game - that's not an issue at all. I'm talking about the loading times after death...which are like around 40seconds or more on ps4...which given you're often fighting enemies above your own level, framerate dips, and dodgy lock on camera during combat, you can end dying quite a bit...and those long loading times in between gameplay can make playing the game a real chore. And i'm very surprised reviews didn't jump all over the technical state of the console version...especially when they only got the ps4 version to review first...don't recall ever reading about the loading times.

Ouch. You might want to try to clear some space from your HDD to see if there's any improvement. Or buy an SSD:

I'm running mine from a 1000GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD.

Also, why do you fight enemies above your own lvl? I don't see much point in it. Just a waste of time frankly. Flee and come back when you've gained more experience.

It's an excellent game overall, but it needs optimizing on many systems, there are fall through world bugs, memory bugs, still crashes on some systems.

Also the Frame rate problem on PS4 is due to CPU not being optimised, Nothing to do with GPU.

Most xboxone games are 900p because of the GPU, 7750 Amd basically.

As with most games these days, they are rushed to market before they are fully ready.

Patch 1.05 already on PC.

Not really. The game is very GPU intensive (except for cities) and at least on PC the game scales ridiculously well on 8-12 CPU threads. If you run into frame rate issues in forests/swamps it's definitely a GPU bottleneck.

Bottleneck ? That would make sense if game simply cannot run more than 20fps. But it is only some areas where game dips so bad.

What I meant was, if the game doesn't hold solid 30fps (even if it drops a frame or two) it's not because of the CPU but because the GPU can't push enough triangles.

I have over 40gigs free on my HDD...and I shouldn't have to update hardware on a console anyway just to get better loading times out of it - that makes no different to the fact that they shipped the game in a certain state.

You can't really avoid fighting above your level (particularly at the start)...I'm only level 7 now and at the start pretty much every enemy i'd bump into would be above me, every mission and contract above me. Other than cheapness with the stupid camera lock system (which is made far too tricky to break out of the lock and simply run away when you've 3+ enemies on you), or randomly running into something several levels above, I can generally deal with taking on missions a couple of levels above me if needed. It's just when you battle framerate, or the camera fucks up and you go for the wrong enemy...or waste a sign, that you end up dying and seeing yet another loading screen.

Mechanical drives tend to perform better the more free space they have. You could try freeing up more and see if the loading times get better. And if Sony ships their consoles with cheap 500GB 5400 rpm drives with tiny caches you bet you will experience shit loading times. Not saying CDPR can't do anything to improve them, just making a point.

Other than that, I've been playing the game on blood and broken bones difficulty and can't say I've experienced same issues that you have. The difficulty was challenging at first but actually not so anymore. Haven't died very often and the camera hasn't been an issue for me. Target lock system could use some tweaking though but it's not an issue. Planning on replaying the game on death march difficulty next time to get a better challenge.
