Seriously, why would you play a Hockey game if you don't know shit about hockey, other than to keep your 8 year old nephew amused?
Exactly. Tony Hawk was a gem when it was first released because 'actual' skateboarders were involved, and it was one of a kind for the time. Skate offers a more realistic (though sometimes not close), and a more accurate approach to the sport which it deserves.
Tony Hawk compared to Skate is like NFL Blitz versus NFL 2K5... A fucking joke.

I guess all that fun I had in skate was fake.
It is a downloadable title Xoar.
A game is still a game, it's there to give the player a sense of fun. Skate, with it's retarded controls and grounded approach to skating could never achieve that, early tony hawks titles achieved that with ease. Same goes for ssx, burnout, motorstorm. Are amped, GT, or daka rally more realistic and grounded games? Yes. Are they more fun? No.
Hope they haven't changed the gameplay of the old and good THPS.
1. Games are not the activities they represent. They are entertainment products. If one is such a hockey nut, I suggest he or she drop the twinsticks and pick up a hockey stick. Unless you're a former pro who's been paralyzed and now can only connect with his former love through digital media, I really see _NO_ validity to the idea that games should be exclusively made for and played by those who are real-life enthusiasts of the subject.
2. We don't have to choose between simulation and arcade stylings. There's room for both in the market and the fact that we can bring up so many arcade/sim pairings is proof of that. That said, TH is and has always been an arcade game. Respect that fans no more want to see Skate in their Hawk than you want Wipeout in your Forza or Halo in your Falshpoint (or whatever your genre and style of choice is).
Oh, and this kinda looks crappy. ;)
This game better be dirt cheap, IMO...

To each his own, but if you don't know dick about it, it's not going to be as fun for you as it is someone who does. This goes with not being any good either for those who know about it. A level of skill and taste I suppose.
eeZee, you completely contradict #1 with your #2. You're saying games shouldn't be made for enthusiasts, but then you say there is room for both...
My argument had mainly to do with arguing opinions, like a moron. No one is saying they all need to be simulators. And it is possible to do both the activity in real life, and expect a certain level of realism in a video game. And why the hell not? We're not talking about big things like total simulation, it's the difference between a 5 foot air and 500 foot air. Throwing a football, or throwing a cow. Accuracy.
If all games were blown-out-of-proportion-bullshit, what would you have? Cherios that anyone can eat. No thanks, go play in your own sandbox. My idea of entertainment isn't the same as yours, does that mean they shouldn't make something for me without degrading to total mediocrity?
I think as a gamer, you should be able to have that level of fun that comes from non-wacky-gameplay too. And Skate provides that.
That's okay
edit
let me rephrase. His enthusiasm may be born of the more outrageous arcade style of Tony Hawk, yet he sees that Skate (whatever game play that may entail) has it's place for those who wish to pursue it.
blah blah blah. Let's argue.
