jesus, some of those GoW shots still are great. the og GoW had a great thing going on with the dark opressive Destroyed Beauty thing the team strived for. Still had in lengths on 2, and totally lost it on 3 and Judgment.

The nature of ongoing evolving series that can't devolve back.

Jumped into this a few days ago and was really surprised to see how good this game still looks.

I think the problem is that everybody started aping desaturated look to the point that people thought UE3 cant do colors, So basically Gears needed to drop that in order to visually differentiate itself from the sea of the copycats. In 3 they tried to at least replace it with yellow & green tint to give it a kind of “scorched earth” vibe, but after that they totally drop it, mostly because at this point everybody was tired of games heavily leaning on strong tinting, even if it made sense thematically.
