Looking very nice indeed.
I think he is talking about the graphics and not the art.

Whos the one with stupid assumptions now, friend?
I'm gonna see the movie for the character characterization, not even remotelly interested in that generic shooting game shown in this trailer or the movie. Now, the way they moved, had low poly models, and even didn't reacted among each other with facial animation, make'em look like a Generation old dead dolls.
Screams Movie Tie-In, in the worst aspect of It with shitty narrative effort.
Graphics seem pretty good, but the subject matter doesn't seem right for a really good game.
Anyway, the graphics are mixed to say the least; the environment's graphics are absolutely stunning, but the character models - especially the alien... things - are almost PS2 quality. Hopefully that's fixed before release. The most worrying aspect, however, is the framerate. Very, very bad in that regard.
We'll hopefully see a lot more of this before release, but initial signs are good - the game looks like it could be fun to play, judging from the gameplay snippets showcased in the trailer.
for now i have to agree, very underwhelming movie trailer, and the game trailer, while technically ok, suffers from the same problems, imho.
Being one of the people who actually saw the 15 minute IMAX-3D preview I can say the tiny trailer everyone else saw today doesn't even come close to what I saw in theater. Avatar is a HUGE epic being told in a kind Jungle Book meets Tarzan fashion.
Cameron is most obviously telling a story from the perspective of the aliens. And it really doesn't feel right to call them "alien", seeing as how this is THEIR world they're defending against human invasion. I also don't think it's an accident that Cameron has the Na-avi (what they call themselves) all sounding like Africans.
And while I agree with you that the visual spectacle didn't blow my mind, there seems to be a very complex character-driven story underneath it all. A man who can't walk is suddenly and literally living a new life by way of some type of mind transfer. As the preview went on there seemed to be a moral choice the man is given. To go completely native with the Na-avi and repulse the human aggressors.
Make no mistake about it, the humans are the villains of this story, the evil in the paradise garden. Perhaps not unredeemable evil, but humans definitely are the bad guys in this epic. This is how the game will obviously approach it's own elements of play so it should be interesting taking a war to ourselves for a change. lol
