Very impressed by the graphics. But I don't think this game is for me. Maybe a good review could win me over.

Very impressed by the graphics.
it's the killzone engine. seems very robust and impressive whether it's something small scale and realistic like this. a corridor effects heavy shooter, or an natural open world like horizon.

Surprised to see Rami Malek in it after his mostly excellent acting in Mr Robot, the other actors are pretty good in this also, seams that in general the quality of acting in games is improving.

Really? makes you wonder why the character model faces were so poor in KZ.

Loved Heavy Rain...played it again last year before selling my ps3 on. And though it controlled like shit, was terribly written...and even worse voice acted, I still cant help liking it. It still does QTE's better than other games than implement them. And I still got to see new things during my second play through...surviving different characters from the first.

So I do believe they'll be some replayability in this. And that the QTE heavy gameplay can be made intense and exciting at times. But I still think this game is going to get critically panned, and soon hit the bargins. I'm not sure how serious it's taking itself...I fear too seriously for the quality of the acting and story.

Prob pick it up at a bargin in October, for a cheap laugh round Halloween

it knows exactly what it is, which is why i'm buying it. if i got the impression they were taking themselves seriously like the original resident evil once was i wouldn't be interested. but knowing it's channeling those hammy, badly written/acted horror movies like scream/Halloween/Friday the 13 etc makes it super charming for me... i think it'll be great. and previews seems very positive (when are they not lol) but i agree, i think it'll do pretty poorly in reviews due to people screaming "it's not a game"...meh.

gaming companies don't wast all their efforts and money and talent SO Some of us criticize their game before they even release ... It is not easy to make games like the last of us or so many famous games. As I heard this game crew members and designers are young and started recently so , how about a little credit ?

the problem horror means jump scares to western devs, i'll get it if there's no jump scares.

Horror is pretty lame without jump scares. Building tension and dread is great. But if it doesnt amount to anything it gets boring. Even silent hill and project zero/fatal frame had it's fair share of jump scares.

This doesn't really seem like horror, this would be classified as a thriller. anything pertaining to serial killers, psychopaths, ax wielding sadistic people is thriller. horror involves monsters, beasts and depictions of the supernatural.

It doesn't look too bad, they nailed the atmosphere just right. my only problem is with the current cliche trends of thrillers, i face palmed a lot in the past years as it was. I thought The Purge was down right awful, both of them. And Friday the 13th also went downhill. There's too much cliches as it is in movies.

If it's anything like Tucker and Dale Vs Evil then i would definitely like this, only because that movie was full of satire.

"Horror films often deal with viewers' nightmares, fears, revulsions and terror of the unknown. Plots within the horror genre often involve the intrusion of an evil force, event, or personage, commonly of supernatural origin, into the everyday world. Prevalent elements include ghosts, aliens, vampires, werewolves, demons, gore, torture, vicious animals, evil witches, monsters, zombies, cannibals, and serial killers. Conversely, movies about the supernatural are not necessarily horrific."

Thriller wiki
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_(genre)

"Characters usually include criminals, stalkers, assassins, innocent victims (often on the run), menaced women, characters with deep dark pasts, psychotic individuals, spree killers, sociopaths, agents, terrorists, cops and escaped cons, private eyes, people involved in twisted relationships, world-weary men and women, psycho-fiends, and more. The themes frequently include terrorism, political conspiracy, pursuit, or romantic triangles leading to murder.[11]"

they are pretty close in some cases, my description though is based on the norm of horror. so i'm not wrong in my statement.

I understand the "jump scare" is one of the pillars of horror games & movies, but I don't really get the appeal. It's just a startle reflex that ruins immersion & kills tension for me.

there are obviously crossovers. But i'd say the movies that incorporate any real semblance of the thriller genre are the likes of seven, psycho and silence of the lambs. The teen horror genre of halloween, friday the thirteenth and scream are clearly a far cry from those movies thematically, and is where until dawn finds it's inspiration.

If until dawn was aiming for a seven-like thriller i'd be worried about what i's seen so far. But knowing it's aiming for a teen horror in the vein of halloween makes the tone of the game far more acceptable and far more appealing.

After seeing the 20 minute walk-through of Until dawn found below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=1188&v=hqfdkLq0e88

A physiological thriller vibe was rubbing on me, similar to the likes of Alan wake which took place on similar ground with a dark presences of sorts. the gore factor in Until dawn i didn't quite see. I'll have to see more of it. it looks great, the camera looks great. not liking much of the QTEs though. (@ 11:12 press triangle for a high five?)

This game captures perfectly, 80's campy teen slasher movies! Where the busty girlfriend asks her boyfriend to go check out a noise she heard....then flash her boobs for good measure. I LOVE those films! I feel, that we as an society began to unravel, when we gotten away from all of that! Until Dawn may be...just the thing that can get us back on the right course of history. I for one, shall cherish this game. Every awesomely cheesy line, to every awesome brutal death!

Ya all shall buy 6 sequels to get the whole picture of a silly and pointless plot. I could be wrong though.

jump scares are cheap scares, very few jump scares in Silent Hill series and Resident Evil, sometimes only one jump scare in the entire game, it can hurt the heart even if your heart is good.

Someone is misremembering lol. Hell, the likes of Resident evil are built around the idea. Fixed cameras, slow door opening. They're not all DIRECTED jump scares, but they're still jump scares. And on top of that they have directed jump scares too anyway, like dogs jumping through windows, zombies smashing through windows, nemesis bursting through walls and doors, Zombies jumping out of baths and closets. But yeah, sure. Resident evil has "very few jump scares" lmao

Knock yourself out. And i was plenty accurate according to wiki if you actually read it. Thrillers contain a number of subjects. In the 20 minutes plus the trailer everything fits into Thriller context.

And just for the extra lols and to go out in style, here is Michael Jackson's thriller.
