Xbox 360

3D Realms released this trailer of Duke Nukem 3D for Xbox Live Arcade. A few new things are presented, some of them maybe even interesting, but it's a shame the game uses such a low resolution.

I wish the game would have higher res. too but that would be like creating a whole new game. Something 3D realms will never do, just look at their track record.

Well, ports like uke (based on the original source) are rendered in high resolution. They still use the low res textures and everything, I'm fine with that, but it least the main window isn't a blurry mess.

I really hope it has 4 player split-screen coop. This would be awesome.

Duke sure is the king of the action. Might even get this, although I still have the DN3D for PC. Co-op is great fun in DN3D.

It has 8 player coop and considering that doom had 4 player splitscreen as well, I think that it will be in this as well (isn't the duke3d engine building on the doom 2 engine?)

Is it just me or is it ironic that this re-release for XBLA is out before duke nukem forever?

Nope, they have nothing in common.

A shameless cash-in on an old title. I've played this on PC before, liked it, but never felt the need to play it again after that. I didn't buy Doom either...

It does look quite shit.

You could say the same for a variety of XBLA games. TMNT? It's a god awful, nostalgia cash in. Duke has more playability than a mess like that did at least.

It looks like the N64 version, surely they could up the res a bit.

I don't think so; and even it if was, since it's by different companies, That feature still may not apply to this game if they didn't think it was needed for their style of gameplay..

And no, Duke Nukem is not built on the Doom engine. It uses the Build engine.

Can't believe there are people even moaning about the graphics in this game, and it being a cash in. Of course the graphics look old, and of course it's a cash in. It's a fucking game from 1996 FFS! No one is holding a gun to your head and begging you to buy it. If this were on the Wii's VC, not one of you would bat an eyelid and would probably praise it's release on there. I'm glad they are releasing it in it's original state as it should be. You could cheat and download it via a torrent to your PC, but the added value of the co-op over live where you can talk with mates is what warrants the buy IMO, for purely nostalgic reasons. I remember playing it over LAN years ago, and Live should offer a similar experience to that at least. As Duke says "BLOW IT OUT YOUR ASS!" to the whingers.

It's worth it, because the Xbox Live community will make it the superior version... I can't believe people are still playing Doom.

There are high def texture packs for duke ports, make the game look much better... but ... i love pixels... if they are not blurred by upscaling (i was a vcs kid).

I would have liked widescreen support first and foremost, but something like Marathon XBLA did would have been best.

They have added new features, the leaderboards for various aspects of levels excite me the most (speed runs are possible), Live play is a big draw (but we'll see how good the netcode is), and the replays will also be very cool if Live play is also good. The rewind feature is kind of gimmicky but it might be fun in some way.

I disagree. Own both Doom and TMNT on xbla and they where well worth the money imo.

Frankly, if they want my money for such an old game, they better put SOME work into it, ANY work.. Upscale the damn sprites. How hard is it to draw a stripper sprite with a 4 frame animation?

Im not paying for a totally unchanged game, like what, 640x480 res on a 42 inch plasma? I think not. If it was free, sure. But who in their right mind would pay for that? The sort of people that pay for pacman i suppose..

Yes, the people who are interested in the actual games, and not just the graphics. Duke Nukem 3D plus online play = win.
