PS3

DjMizuhara sent us what seems to be the final trailer of Yakuza 3, Japanese version of course. Needless to say, it looks like this is going to be a very beautiful game.

No it doesn't.
It is already where it sells very well and makes sense for the demographic... Japan.
Many hardcore gamers want this, and i understand that, but they are a niche and this isn't a very mass market game.

It really has nothing to do with GTA in any way. If anything, it's very similar to Shenmue 1 and 2. And i'm sure the story is great in this game, but it's just damn annoying that we don't see ANY gameplay parts in the trailer. I am afraid the gameplay will feel kinda stiff and the same for the battles....recently i saw footage of the battles and also the character walking around and it just didn't look as incredible as the cutscenes. But i'm still looking forward to it..although...there's not much reason to look forward to a game that we won't be seeing anytime soon.

It's ridiculous how long it took for Yakuza 2 to come out in Europe...i don't even wanna think about how long this one is gonna take...neither do i understand it. Why do they decide to wait so ridiculously long to bring it out in europe and US?

While it looks good i get a feeling its going to have a lot of long and pointless cutscenes?

@ DeadSaint )

the Yakuza series always had a lot of long cutscenes - whether or not they're "pointless" is subjective, I always liked them

@ TheFuriousOne )

yea, it's definately totally out of synch (atleast in the streaming version)

the game looks awesome, but the trailer was annoying as hell.
Flashing japanese letters all the time.

Why the hell don't they use this engine for Shenmue 3?!

SEGA seems to only release their shitty games in EU and USA.
No wonder they almost were bankrupt...

it's a little bit like a JRPG in the way its structured (you level up, spend experience on skills, buy items and health etc), but replace the turn based combat with 3D brawler type fighting.

the game should cbe released over here. hell, even a basic english sub would do me fine. i prefared shenmue 2 that way and im sure i will this game as well. no need to wait 2 years for an all english voice cast etc....just sub it.

Americans would rather drive around and run over bums/hookers in the streets of New York, than sing Karaoke in a Japanese bar. It's the cultural differences between what would appeal in a Western market and the Japanese market that would prevent this from selling decently in the former.

not necessarily. while i agree some elements of yakuza are very "japanese" the core brawling gameplay isnt exactly something i'd consider exclusive to the japanese culture.

if a game like final fantasy can succeed in the west, so can yakuza, and yakuza 3 in particular has a good chance of success. yakuza 1 was an unknown IP, it was obvious it would be approached with a certain degree of reservation. yakuza 2 was released over in the west when the "next gen" systems where in full swing...and they wonder why it performed badly over here. yakuza 3 however has 2 things on its side....timing, and its visuals. in a generation where graphics are more important then gameplay for a lot of people. it's bound to sell better

if sega dont release this in EU and US then they're stupid

indeed, that's why I always thought of Shenmue and Yakuza as Beat'emUp RPGs and not "sandbox games"

Don't worry, Yakuza 3 will come out here. It'll also see abysmal sales again, and it will have been a financially disasterous decision to localize it. Then Yakuza 4 will come out in japan and people will call Sega "stupid" for their reluctance to bring that over aswell.

It's the way it goes! Valkyria Chronicles everyone should practically buy three copies of out of pure gratitude that Sega brought it over. But nope, it's sold horribly, and if Sega hesistate to bring over a hugely hypothetical VC2, people will call them stupid again! Yay!

Not quite horribly. Valkyria did push 300,000 copies so far, so here's to hoping it has long legs!

@ jackdoe )

Valkyria can't have long legs, because it doesn't get any shelf space and so people won't even notice this game exists (with the exception of a very small minority, that actually reads up on it on the internet - that minority also is likely to buy it from some online retailers)

the same would happen to Yakuza 3 as it's just another iteration of a weakly selling franchise, so stores won't reserve any shelf space for it, if Sega doesn't spend millions on advertising and people magically preorder it in en mass
