makes it looks more interesting then the gameplay footage i've seen, which, as i said in the forums...looks like it was designed in 1999 and res'd up for the year 2011. just looks so dated, design wise.

might give it a go tho.

Agreed on the previous gameplay footage. This trailer looks really nice but the previous GDC gameplay footage was really disappointing. The problem is that the other footage was from GDC which means that wasn't an specially old build.

Hope this is not just a pretty and "touched" up trailer for a mediocre game because it has INSANE potential and looks sick.

If you weren't impressed by the gameplay footage, then either you haven't played the first game or just not a fan of 3D platformers. Obviously, the trailer is going to pick the best bits to get you excited for it, just like the Transformers 3 trailer (and that movie will be awful)!

i'm a fan of 3D platformers, just not ones that have incredibly archaic design. it was like looking at a ressed up shadow man, or soul reaver, great games for their time, sure, but things have progressed quite a bit since then, especially in terms of environmental geometry and detail. the gameplay was boxy area, after boxy area, completely flat ground and the more open areas where baron and devoid of any visual landmarks except the odd box shaped wall... it basially looks like the first game, low poly count and all, it's just been glazed with a layer of UE3 textures and effects.

i'm all for them making a sequel, but if mcgree has proven anything since the first alice game, it's that his games feel incredibly dated compared to the standard on offer elsewhere. i dont see how this is going to be any different. but hell, maybe the footage was just a low point in the game, maybe it was an unfinished environment? so maybe it wasnt indicative of the final game. i'm willing to wait and find out but i'm not holding my breath.

who's a graphics whore? if that's honestly what you think my issue is then you need to re-read... it's the DESIGN i have issues with. not the visuals (although UE3 isnt exactly helping)

Hardly the engine's fault, seeing as many studios have used it to its full potential.

but it isnt helping. they've got a dated looking game (design) wrapped in a typically problematic engine (pop-in, weird texture shimmer, aliasing, oversaturated textures)

i'm sure the game would look "meh" no matter what engine they used thanks to the way it's been designed (it's just so boxy), but the engine is doing them no favours what so ever. i dunno what the engine does to textures, but it makes them all look weird, like they've been oversaturated. the fact you can tell a UE3 engine powerd game from any other shows something is standing out...and not in a good way imo.

this is looking 'damnation' levels of poor atm. if the environments where a bit more interesting geometry and detail wise (bulletstorm, bioshock, gears) then it would look infinately better. i just can't get over how much this looks like a UE3 powered dreamcast game in terms of its level design. which is a shame, becasue mechanically it looks pretty cool (the abilities, the combat, the invisible platforms etc) even the plot, theme, voice acting seem decent. but man oh man do i hate the level design.

The first game had insane level design, what are you on about?! Have you played it, seriously? You are criticising the level design just because they have flat ground? Visual landmarks, did you not notice the huge Alice statue waterfall in the trailer?

UE3 can be great under the hood of the right hardware. The PC version of the original gears of war at 1920x1200 maxed out with 60fps looks better than ANYTHING on the PS3 or Xbox360, but I agree with you about the design of this game. It's very old school and simple. It does look like a dressed up first game. Maybe it won't be such a bad thing though. I still enjoy those old school games. The artwork in the game looks nice, but they could have done so much more with the design and depth of the visuals. Looks like a DX9 game.

This game looks disturbing as feck!

I like! A pleasant (or not so pleasant) twist on a classic. Something that disturbs not only because of its gruesomeness but because of the setting it has distorted.

More please =)

As for boxy level design, surely every game has boxy level design its just that the shape of the box is different?
