Also, pedestrians that miraculously always get out of the way and "shifting" magically between vehicles to overcome the game's shortcomings is just retarded. I still love the looks of the handling, but it's not enough for me. The whole time I played the game I would be thinking about how great it could have been.
Maybe it was acceptable when the original Driver came out, but in 2011 who wants to play an open world game where you can't exit your car to explore? Where you can't go in a single building? Where you can't switch to another vehicle? (Oh wait, I guess you have magic powers and can "phase" into other vehicles).
Also, you typically play a cop in the Driver games. I'm pretty sure that cops are allowed to step out of their vehicles once in a while. What do you do, run all the perps over to win the missions? Driver games have been allowing you to get out of the car since the second one, now the player can't do it anymore? I understand the reason is because people complained about the quality of the on foot controls, but most competent devs would take that a sign they needed to IMPROVE them, not remove them.

removing features instead of fixing them is the hall stamp of this gen.
The devs obviously wanted the feel of the first driver (which by the looks of things they've acheived) while still alowing the freedom to switch vehicles. Driver has NEVER been about the on foot car jacking/shooting. It's about the driving, hell, big clue in the name. I'm happy they've gone for this approach. Context wise its weird, but knowing how they would do on-foot and how redundant it would feel they have most definately made the right choice.
Now if this was GTA a game that does the on-foot stuff well, where it is just as integral to the expetience as driving, and they announced they would remove it in place of car phasing, then tes, i'd be pissed. But for driver, where it isnt a big loss, then so be it. They've put fun before context, and when it comes to driving games, that's all i want....fun.

Games like GTA4 always did a better job when it comes to vehicle + shooting mechanics. I'm glad the new Driver goes back to the more original gameplay of the series.
A playable Demo would be nice.
Gimme some of that, and I'll bite.
Actually, that's one game that if released in a "hi-def remake" or however they want to refer to it, you know, proper resolution, draw distance, physics, textures, poly's, CGI, whatever...
I would buy that.
I don't really give a crap about an open world. I mean yeah, you could cruise around the cities and invite trouble, but it didn't have weight for or against your progress in the missions.
Still not sure if I'm gonna buy the game, though.
Game A) Amazing open world driving game with great on foot and shooting mechanics and varied missions
or
Game B) Amazing open world driving game with driving missions.
Trust me, I know that Driver is all about the driving, I love series. I personally thought the game would be amazing and have much more variety if they just fixed the on foot sections. Hell, they have had an entire console gerneration to fix them. IMO, it would have made a much better, and much more varied gameplay experience.
To use your analogy, gamers have complained about the handling of the aircraft in Ace Combat. Should the developers have just eliminated player control and had the planes fly themselves? That way all you have to do is point at targets and it could shoot them too! Gamers complain about games being simplified and features being lost this gen, then they stick up for developers as "going back to their roots" when they obviously cop out of having to make game improvements.
To those that are defending this game: can you name me one thing this game looks as though it improves in the series?
