Multiplayer in Bioshock 2? What a strange idea. And still Digital Extremes has been working on this for a long time now, and it even seem to be actually interesting if this video is any indication;

If I had to name one thing that Bioshock did not get right, it was the aiming. That alone makes it hard for me to get excited for the MP of this game.

I was able to stomach it in the SP in Bioshock 1 because everything else was so well done (except for the repetetive environments at some point), but for MP it just won't do. Unless ofcourse, they've drastically improved on this.

As for the SP, I feel that they should've never made a sequel and should've gone for a new ip, just like Bioshock was new and exciting back then. I'm just not that hyped for going back to rapture again. I wish they used their brilliant resources for yet again something fresh, exciting and unique...Bioshock 2 will never be able to deliver that amazing journey Bioshock 1 offered.

I agree with Jato 100% on this one. If they do MP, they really need to change a LOT about the aiming. Also, the weapons and powers in general just seem like it would be a mess in a MP event.

Rapture was so great because you were DISCOVERING rapture. Going back to revisit won't have nearly as much impact or atmosphere. I agree they really should have used an entirely new location and new atmosphere.

But I guess that wouldn't work in terms of marketing, which is gonna try to sell as many games as possible based on the name Bioshock. But at least a much different world under water might have been done? I don't know, this just seems like it's gonna lack all the magic of the first game's wonderful art and atmosphere.

Hope I'm wrong!!!

Ah, nothing says watered down and mass marketed than multiplayer. Resident Evil, Metroid Prime, Ninja Gaiden, and now BioShock... I lost some respect for all these series. It's not that I don't like playing with friends, but there are certain games that are better played alone, and I don't want the devs wasting time and resources on a mode I'll never use

The multiplayer is being developed by Digital Extremes - not 2K - so you don't have to worry about them wasting extra time and resources.

I agree with Jato completely though; my heart sank when I heard there was going to be a sequel and, based on what I've seen, I'm not interested in it one bit.

I agree with everything said here. Bioshock 2 is just a quick cash-in that doesn't capture anything that made the original interesting. Multiplayer is just a way to sprinkle fine turd on an already big, and well cooked turd. But this is what happens when large publishers acquire small, creative developers. Bioshock was already in the works when 2k bought them. Look what Activision is doing with Bizarre Creations. Blur is an embarrassment.

I wouldn't be so quick to put this game down. I am sure it will be a solid game. But I'll agree that it almost certainly won't have the awesomeness of Bioshock1. If they wanted to make Bioshock 2 something incredible, they really would have had to push the game into some so much more.

this game so does not need a multiplayer..when you think about Bioshock, the first thing you think about is a good story, fantastic setting, immersive..not : " man, i would love to play this online with some a-holes and shoot plasmids "

I don't get you people. On the one hand, a sequel to the first game wouldn't work, because it's not going to have the same sense of discovery, etc as the last one. But when they try and get away from that and give something else, like Multiplayer, instead of trying to recreate the first game with a new story. I bet a lot of people are writing off the multiplayer without so much as watchign footage, or listening to any kind of coverage. Sure, it doesn't NEED MP, but hey, that doesn't mean it's impossible for it to have some solid multiplayer action.

I have to echo a lot of the thoughts here. Bioshock 2 is wrong on so many levels.

Everything, from the illogical return to the same setting to your main character being a Big Daddy prototype to the pointless inclusion of unwanted multiplayer....it just reeks of a grasping-at-straws, let's make a sequel at any cost mentality.

The game may or may not end up being a total disaster, but it's certainly a shameless cash-in from a conceptual standpoint.

The aiming worked fine for me in Bioshock -- the only problem I had was with their sensitivity settings on the PC version. The lowest setting is too low, but if you bump it up one notch it's super sensitive.

Aiming was fine for me too.

Personally like everyone else who played this, I don't think MP is necessary and will just come off as cheesy/cheap.

However I for one am GLAD that such a great game is getting a sequel. After I beat it I wanted more, and this is what the sequel will do. This will be one of my most anticipated games for the coming year.

I just hope they don't downgrade the features because its multiplataform, now. I want the choice of V-sync on/off or there's no buy.

I can't go back, jerry...

@nostradamus: it always WAS multiplatform...

Anyway, I don't understand how Bio 2 could be a revisitation of first games' locations. I mean, yeah, there will be some of the known locations [it would be a shame to not see them 10 years later, when we have sequel] but Bio 2 is a brand new, standalone story, independent of the first one [though there will be some connections for the fans of the first one, obviously]. It isn't a direct sequel, it's about someone else's story.

And I won't play MP, but I understand completely why they're creating one. They just want to have larger fanbase, and good MP is good for that.
But the fact is - a MP component will NOT comrpomise singleplayer experience, since it's completely outsourced, giving 2K Marin time and room to fully nail the singleplayer.

How can anyone not want a sequel to an amazing game? Do you really think this company is capable of giving you a disappointing sequel after such an incredible first iteration? It's only going to get better

considering levine isnt involved, it isnt looking great. they've made too many bad decision already for this sequel as far as i'm concerned. the revisit of rapture really wasnt a good idea. and if they did they should have at least showed us the time BEFORE the place went to hell, as it is it looks like the first game with a drill arm....not my idea of a good sequel.

i mean, i'm all for a sequel to a great game, but this is looking pretty piss poor, and the last thing i want them to do is shit all over my fond memories. it's what i fear eidos will do with an arkham asylum sequel, and it's what i think this is going to do when it's released. props to you for getting excited by such a half assed sequel, but dont expect me to follow suit.

Agreed with the general consensus here and would like to add re-spawning enemies killed a lot of Bioshock1 for me as well.

I've played it about 2hours in I think and weird aiming + re-spawning enemies for me was enough and the atmosphere + story wasn't worth the hassle of carrying on and I forgot about the game ever since to be honest.
Maybe I'll watch a play through of it one day.

Piss poor? Half-assed? Shit over anything?
Why such anger, geez?

And about revisiting, what would be Bioshock if it wouldn't played in Rapture?

In games like Bioschock MP isn't needed.

BTW I like the decision of Insomniac about not having MP in next R&C game. Developers should cocentrate these days rather on longer and more solid SP.

Wow, this looks like a mess. Why a sequel needed to be made is beyond me, other than for it to be purely for financial reasons, but I feel MP is so unwarranted for this series. I mean wouldn't most people just want to play as a Big Daddy anyhow, boring? Whatever, just more annoying online achievements. Oh how I HATE online multiplayer achievements. If I want my MP fix I have games that deserve, need & have MP like Modern warfare 2 for crying out loud, right or no?
