Trailer PC PS4 Xbox One

Shenmue I & II will be released on August 21 on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and it's of course available to preorder right now. Let's just wait patiently and watch this new trailer and a few screenshots, showing what seems to be a very "authentic" remaster...

Blim, it's so fitting that it's you who posted this news.
Hopefully, Drift will finally like Shenmue.

PS. It goes without saying... mandatory stream!

I could also use the monster new laptop, it should be able to handle a 1080p30 stream!

Yes, definitely!
That's why I said it was fitting that Blim posted the news.

On the Shenmue 1 & 2's Steam page, it says: "Fully scalable screen resolutions", so it should go up to 4k - maybe even 8k. I believe even with a medium tier laptop, you should be able to play the game at 4k@30fps or higher if it's a monster laptop.

It's a simple port of the games and it shouldn't give any trouble to modern hardware, as long as it's well optimized. I'm expecting it will be similar to Vanquish and Bayonetta ports, where they can reach 4k@60fps with medium tier hardware - GTX 970, GTX 1060, etc.

Also, the facts that it is capped at 30fps because of the engine's physics and that Shenmue 1 & 2 are far older games than Vanquish and Bayonetta, means it should be even less taxing.

I just hope the ports are mostly issue free at launch, there's no reason they should give any issue as long as the developers do their job properly.

Gameplay parts will be 16:9, cutscenes 4:3. BTW 30fps, as I understand game is hardcoded for 30fps.

Is the gameplay stretched? There’s something very "fat" about the footage in the trailer like it’s been stretched to fit a widescreen aspect ratio, hopefully that isn’t how they’ve achieved it.

I hope it is not stretched and if it is I would rather play the whole game in 4:3.

My only grip with this port is that it's based on the Xbox port and not the Dreamcast one. Some textures are better on Dreamcast.

dreamcast version doesn't have global shadows.

there are pros and cons, the only gripe is how bad the team doing the port is.

I can get identical graphics on an emulator. I'd gladly pay for a nice Shenmue port, but this looks so lazy it hurts.

I played Shenmue when it was originally released, so I remember the hype and my amazement with all the details and interactivity. But for the asking price, we're getting very little here. And without any significant upgrades, these graphics still present themselves much better on an old-school CRT.

Ridge Racer V, Tekken Tag Tournament and a few others made for fine early launch titles and someone has not had their butthurt cream because the PS2 actually launched in March 2000 Japan and October U.S.A. while the Sega Dreamcast actually lauched in Japan in 1998 where there was a major software shortage and an extremely NOT SEGA-AM2 QUALITY port of Virtua Fighter 3tb which was really DISSAPPOINTING for DIE-HARD SEGA fans like ME right here.

Comparing game that game out a year after the REAL Dreamcast launch to first year PS2... wow, amazing fanboism right there when everyone knows it takes an average of 2 years of development (especially back then) to make a game from scratch and Shenmue had had the advantage of ACTUALLY being an ENHANCED and EXPANDED port of the internally developed SEGA Saturn Shenmue-Project Berkerley-Virtua Fighter RPG.

Further this port will serve as a testing evaluation to see how the reception is in terms of SALES... obviously on PC it will get pirated to shit... but if the game sells very well on PSN or XboxLive, then SEGA will definetly approve making a Yakuza Kiwami type remake remaster.

Especially considering how the vast majority of "Shenmue fans" NEVER PURCHASED the game day one or even in the first month, or months period when the sales COUNTED as an actual profit for SEGA.

I'm keeping my jugements on the product till it's out but the aliasing hurts quite a bit.
Also the global shadows and dreamcast textures could have met somwhere. We're in 2018 ffs...

My emulator already showed me that a few years ago. In fact, I'd say it looked better than this. But still, those graphics used to be the shit back then. I can't deny that.
