Get a new glimpse at 1899 America and the wild west coming to an end with the new trailer of Red Dead Redemption 2. Check back later for a better quality version we should receive. Update: HQ version added.
Now this is the kind of story trailer i wanted. Looks like the game begins with the blackwater robbery that got Marston shot and left for dead. Gameplay wise it looks like melee combat is gonna be a big thing

i think i disagree on this one. The first 2 were a little underwhelming for me but this one was great for setting up what the game is about and making me excited. Now i want to see the game features videos which should happen soon hopefully

another disappointing trailer. i don't know what's going on with the marketing for this game, but the trailers so far have been really uninteresting.
I don't really know what you expected from a Rockstar story trailer. Maybe it's a little more "restrained" this time around, but, still pretty typical I would say.
Very disappointed it's so late in the history of the old west, would have preferred not long after the civil war, was a much more interesting time for me.
I'm still surprised how story threads from rdr1 play such a big part in this. Usually Rockstar makes completely separate games story-wise with maybe some old protagonist cameos. But this one is literally a full on prequel it seems

I am quite tired of their trailer formula though.
Something more bombastic and fun? Something that looks exciting to progress through? Some humour and personality? The trailers for this remind me of the trailers for the ant-man movie. It turned out pretty good but those trailers never once made me want to rush out and watch it. Maybe it’s the unusually serious tone that’s making it look a bit charmless, but whatever it is it’s not doing the game any favours.
Maybe I need to wait for the ‘modes and features’ trailer like RDR got? That might help.

R* always had a knack of doing this for their games, so this doesn't really surprise me anymore. They've been doing this years, so why change a formula when people are gonna throw money at it anyways.

I suppose it does come off bleaker than usual. No sign of the usual quirky characters & dark humour. But I'd be surprised if they dropped that stuff altogether, although I do like this more serious tone thus far. I just want to see more.

You don't feel it. This heartbreaking, plaintive, painful music, as if there's something looming on the horizon, something threatening, troubled, uneasy. It's simple and natural as life itself is. Can someone's life filled with tragedies be uninteresting? It's dramatic, mature. You want to have fun, but it's a whole epoch with its atmosphere and history, very expressive ones. They are serious is what's valuable. In my view, it's tribute to the past. People had hard and restless life. Jokes ruin all charm to me. Now, of course, lives of many are carefree and boring, so they want to entertain more. I want to immerse into realistic picture of that time without stupidities. What you need is play it when you're in the right mood. One day you're sad, you understand lyrics, another day you are joyful, you want to amuse yourself or fool around. It's all based on emotinal situation and experience.
That's but game, but games, as movies and books, are different. There are not universal things for all at once. Everyone is on their own stage of development and has their own mentality. I very much like trailer, it's exactly what I want to see, it expresses my emotions and feelings. I even stored it for memory. I don't need something bombastic or grandiloquent that, on the contrary, bores me much and makes me yawn. To me, there's nothing more interesting than human destinies is what trailer tells us about.

Yes I'm looking forward to how this plays out.
I found GTAV story to be obnoxious and really forgettable, hopefully the writing for this is better. The tone is already more to my liking so that's a good start. I do wonder what if any new gameplay we're getting, excited for the trailer dude VO man to talk us through side activities. Even if there's nothing super new, hopefully it's one heck of an adventure.

i'm more curious about whether the euphoria physics have made it through unscathed. it was literally the only good thing about the combat of the first RDR. but we know it was cut back a LOT in GTAV compared to IV. i wonder if the same will have happened here too?

There are unfounded rumours that was done in GTAV to make sure the online mode runs well. Along with the slightly more cartoonish rendering. I have just sent a note to Rockstar today through their "Mouth off" form on their website, pleading that SP and MP entities are kept completely separate as it's things like their implementation of Euphoria that really gave GTAIV and RDR that really great "next gen" feeling and if we're losing dynamic things like that so MP works, please just keep them separate.
Just look at vehicle damage as well, not sure if that was part of Euphoria but vehicle damage in V felt like a generation BEHIND what IV did.
Anyway I hope these are not signs of the "single player masters" switching focus for the sake of making billions selling virtual currency. If they do want to make that switch, I wish they just create a "Rockstar Online" division and collebrate MP and SP releases but keep the SP team 100% using all resources to push boundaries. Sony's uncompromising SP approach with games like Horizon and God of War really pays off and I don't care what Rockstar PR says, the SP would have that something more if that's all they were building.
