Trailer PC Xbox 360 PS3

Atari and Eden released the first trailer of Test Drive Unlimited 2, showing some of the new things like rain and the dirt roads. Let's not forget that we will get the good old island from the first game, along with Ibiza, and hope that the handling will be a tad more realistic.

Never got into the first game's demo... Felt like I was wasting my time every time I went off road... Will need much more convincing if they want to sell this one to me.

Really looking forward to this one. The original was one of the first 360 games I got into when I got my system back in 2006 (hard to believe it's been that long). The original only had a singular fault that kept TDU from being one of the best racers ever - shitty driving mechanics. Pretty much everything else about it, was revolutionary at the time. Hoping to see what improvements they bring to the formula after four years of stealth development for the sequel.

To wit, the guys over at Joystiq got to test drive this bad puppy yesterday (see what I did there - don't you hate when people say, "see what I did there," like you are too stupid to catch all by yourself), and below I have included a few choice quotes from their write-up.
Eden and publisher Atari gave me a peek at the work-in-progress racer yesterday, which was running on PC for demo purposes but at the same resolution and level of detail planned for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. It's already looking gorgeous -- the video above doesn't do it nearly enough justice -- but that's not what impressed me the most. So much as been expanded, tweaked and added to this sequel that I would have believed it if the developer had told me it'd been working on the game since 2006. It also seemed so finished that I couldn't believe we won't be playing it until near the end of this year.
There's a level cap of 60 and at level 10 you're able to drive to the airport and hop a flight from Ibiza (the game's first location) to Hawaii (its second and the setting of the first TDU, which has been expanded with an additional 600 KM of asphalt and off-road trails).
Provided you have a constant PSN or XBL connection, single- and multiplayer are meant to blend seamlessly together, allowing you to create groups with other players that stay together until disbanded, moving as a group between races and even hangouts.
. . . with the developer commenting that the wet roads will affect the game's reworked, "immediately accessible" car handling.

Woohoo!! Confirmation that Eden has reworked the busted driving physics and handling from the original game. If the new driving mechanics are truly, "immediately accessible," as Eden has claimed, then this game is a day one purchase!

The game demo started out in a garage, which, in TDU2, is one of the places that can serve as a social hub. You can walk around in first person in these, inviting other players to join you in admiring your collection. The cars themselves look great, with detail to the nth degree -- outside and in. The car interiors I was shown were far and away the most impressive I've seen in a game, with details down to real-looking carpet, suede and hand--stitched leather. At any time, a friend hanging out in the garage could hop into the passenger seat of the same car to admire its craftsmanship, and even even stay in it as a "co-driver" (who can issue directional icons) if you decide to take it out for a spin.

To read the full article, which details quite a few new features I did not include, just follow this link: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/04/30/impressions-test...

hoping it will be good. The first was very impressive for the time.. but the flaws of having an open world setting in a racing game started to show (they got away with it abit more in TD because the island wasnt all flat ground). You really need tracks for intense online races imo.

They've been working on this game for years..so i'm expecting it polished

Looks cool, but I won't take it from a journalist that the driving has been fixed. The first one was unplayable for me.

Ibiza is enough for me. Love the island, and looking forward how authentic they brought it into the game.

Liked the first one, but am I'm a bit disappointed that it looks exactly like the first game. Expected a bigger visual leap in a 4-year period. Granted, it didn't look bad back then, but has certainly has aged. Expected some new interesting cars as well. Seen most of these before in just about every racing game. The Audi R8 Spyder and Mercedes SLS AMG were made for this game though, put those in.

This game is going to be great when it stops being Playboy game. Cool "Ken" drives the car and hooks a nice barbie or opposite. Nice wilas, mansions and other premium stuff that i realy dont care about. Just give me fun game and realistic driving. So many time have passed since firs one and the game looks the same. They want to do it road anr offroad ohhh that is not impressive. It has a lot of promises, but it also has a lot of weak sides.

Hate to throw off your clever little word play there, but they didn't actually get to test drive it yet. So far the dev is only giving"eyes-on guided presentations to the press.

As for the handling, I'd love to get excited about it too but the sad truth is that just because they reworked the handling doesn't mean it'll be much better. If you look closely in the trailer when they show close ups of cars drifting you can see that the frame of the car isn't tilting at all on the axel and wheels. It's like there's no suspension in the cars or they haven't added in any weight or inertia to the physics yet. Still plenty early though and I hope they pull it all together in the end.

I just like to drive. So hopefully it will have some cool cars and maps. Weather and little bit of customization is also good

Not interested in MMO racing game or some thing like that :p

Quite liked the slick stlye of the trailer their even if the half naked men and woman in hot tubs and pimped out houses were a tad unnecessary. I quite enjoyed the 1st, took me a while but ended up really enjoying it. Hope they fine tune this one into a much higher quality title =)
