The level design reminds me a bit of Halo, especially on the 3rd picture.

A lot of Halo.
Alot like Section 8.

But then again, the titles we mention now are rip offs from the Tribes considering Tribes came first.

The whole thing reminds me of Halo. Not particularly a bit thing. Looks pretty good.

Bah, I just watched some old Tribes game-play and I didn't get a Halo vibe at all. How is Halo a rip-off of Tribes? Because Reach has jet packs that don't work the same way? I am definitely getting a Halo vibe with this new Ascend though, at least with some of the design...

Bungie have even admitted in the past that they took a lot of inspiration from Tribes, in the same way that every other damn title out there takes inspiration from something/somewhere else. Uniqueness is a rarity in itself.

True enough, but taking inspiration from is not the same as ripping off. Even if Bungie was inspired originally by some aspects of Tribes, it certainly had it's own Identity and style. I've never played Tribes, so I can't attest to any game-play similarities, but based off of footage of the old Tribes games, I don't see many. This new footage of Ascend, however, does make me think of Halo...

I wouldn't mind a game with some similarities to Halo. As long as they take the good things and make it better where possible. And if Bungie took some things of Tribes, that only makes the prospects for this new installment better. The Halo games are still some of the most fun games I've played (especially the multiplayer)

This message is in "Boulet Time" (TM), If you still *really* want to see it, click here
lol you are yong and stupid i guess...tribes was the one of the first games i think that introduced free world gameplay and vehicle use,
tribes 2 was the 1st game i think ever that when you looked down you would see your body and legs...
halo does resembles tribes2 in terms of landscape.
it was an awesome game and i hope they get back to that tribes2 formula, it was super fun!

I'm probably older than you :P I find that people that feel the need to bring up age as some kind of insult are most likely children themselves (physically or mentally). Ignorance and stupidity are not the same thing, either. I said I had never played Tribes (didn't even own a PC at the time) and could only go by the videos. Having open game-play and vehicles hardly constitutes a rip-off anyway...

by the time I grabbed a copy of Tribes/2, I was already deeply entrenched in UT.

and when Vengeance came out, I was already addicted to UT2003/2004.

I think now, finally, is Tribes time for me.

yay tribes! I don't care who ripped who, if the game is fun, the game is fun. I loved tribes in it's day, same with good ole UT2003, if this is more goodness, its more goodness. Besides, think about it, why not look to arguably the most successful fps for how to breathe life into an old franchise? Frankly its flattery.

So you don't see the Halo vibe in Tribes but you think Tribes looks like Halo even though Tribes looks like Tribes. Check.

Hum.. i'm always very annoyed if i read something like "halo revolutionized the 1st person shooter" in the media, because then i always think.. noonoo.. tribes and maybe some quake-mods before that did this much earlier.

Looks actually pretty dull and pedestrian and the design work is fairly amateurish. Not a Halo fan but this does look like a poor man's Halo even though the Tribes franchise came first.

It's the artistic values that have changed when they should have stuck to the already established aesthetic or at least attempted something fresher. Also not sure the world needs to return to the FPS bunnyhop era...ever again.

All I know is the last Tribes was trash, so I'm skeptical of this title. The movement looks cool though. Gives a throwback feel to the olden days

This conversation also reminds me that they need to revamp UT somehow and bring that franchise back to its former glory.

Yep. The designs in the Tribes vids I saw, didn't look anything like Halo's designs ( I always got the James Cameron vibe from Halo although that did diminish as the series progressed). What I saw of Tribes had some hilly, open environments and some vehicles, but that was about where the similarities ended. The guns, vehicles and armor don't look similar (except for the Jetpacks and Reach). They certainly didn't look to play the same.
In these new shots and videos, I'm definitely feeling some Halo vibes. I'm not saying rip-off or anything like some people are claiming the other way...

1) This developer has nothing to do with the developer of Tribes Vengence.
2) They did and no one played it. UT3 is a good ass game.

And I'm saying it doesn't make much sense to me because these designs look "Tribes" enough for me.

Now lets see how it plays!
