GSY Tech Xbox One

The 1.03 version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is finally available on Xbox One, with the promise of a locked framerate. And did CD Projekt Red deliver? According to our first comparison video, they absolutely did! More videos to come, but this one certain shows how important a locked framerate is compared to a higher but unlocked one!
Update 2: Two Velen videos added.
Update 3: Swamp video analysis shows that the game can't hold a steady 30 fps in this demanding area of the world.
Update 3: Two last analysis videos added. They show different situations and areas in the game.

Take a look at the second video on horseback. Concentrate on how the scenery moves on the left, then how it is on the right. The smoothness difference is huge.

A locked framerate is desirable because it synchronizes with the display devices refresh rate and delivers a smooth experience. When unlocked, depending on when the frame is delivered you may get tearing (frame partially rendered) or stuttering. I think the negative effects are minimized the higher the framerate gets (above 50fps) around 30 fps it's more noticeable.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong lol

I dont understand why they didnt go with the locked framerate to begin with for the XB1 version. Glad they fixed it.

Glad they finally fixed this, but I really don't understand why this is still an issue in 2015. Why did they not lock it right away?

Sad days - comparing pre and post patch framerate...on a bloody console. Not that I do not appreciate Your ( awesome as always ) work Blim but I'm just losing my love for consoles with every single vid like that. Release half a$$ finished game and keep upgrading it over and over again.... yeah I'm just one old git haha Cheers and thanks !

Did you guys notice any graphical differences from V1.01 to V1.03? Some folks on the CDPR forum and Gamefaqs say they notice a graphical downgrade after the latest patch. I had not played for a day or so, so i cannot be sure but it looks pretty the same to me.

Some folks on NeoGAF said the same about the PS4 version with the latest patch last week. I never really see these differences...if there are any. What i DO see is a much smoother framerate when i was playing this evening on my X1. Still some stutters here and there though, but CDPR is on it they said.

Well for one it can really mess with how you play, imagine playing COD at 60 but every time you moved more then a few degrees left or right it drops to 30 or below, it can hinder your aim quite a lot.. especially for for things that really rely on it like twitch shooters.

Another comment above also answered this very well, but to me its always gameplay that impacts the flow of the game.

What the heck Gamersyde, why don't you do the same for the PS4 version? Are you favoring one side? Also, do PCars.

But I think its great your even doing this, keep up the good work.

The thing I hate about this kind of thing is that they don't make it an option that you can turn on or off yourself like on PC. They force the change on you whether you want it or not. I think it's about time they add display options to console games. I would much rather lower the resolution, AA, or shadows to improve the framerate.

Bioshock had this as an option

What the heck Gamersyde? More comparison videos for the X1 ver? But not one more for the PS4? why? Are you favoring Here? Gives us the same scenes on PS4 now.

Update: Oh oops, I spoke to soon, I see you actually have added some new videos. Thank you and sorry for the accusations.

Locked = vsync
Unlocked = no vsync

Both have circumstantial advantages and disadvantages. Plenty of info on the net about each.

Because it requires a graphical downgrade to sustain the fps required for a consistent lock.

Seems like this console hardware release is even weaker than the last one. I dread seeing finalized specs and throughput of the next generation of consoles.

It wasn't by choice. They would have had to disable effects or otherwise simplify the graphics somehow to achieve it. But they cleaned things up on the code side and now it's locked and they didn't have to sacrifice anything.

Yeah, seems like all the videos before the 35 minutes gameplay video from August 2014 were deleted.

I won't speculate as to why they were deleted, but it sucks I won't be able to get the excellent "Sword of Destiny" trailer from E3 2014 and the E3 2013 trailer in high quality.

This is why I hoard videos, even though I have almost 1 TB of space just of videos. Oh well, we will always have Youtube...

Somehow, that doesn't console me, though.

Thanks a lot!

You're quite right, no idea why I didn't think of that as well. I'm going to send Blim a message to see if he can fix it. I also found out that I do have the old The Witcher 3 trailers saved in a folder. My brain wasn't working at the time. ^_^;
