Ubisoft announces Far Cry 4, Nov. 18th

After its report for the full fiscal year, Ubisoft has formally announced Far Cry 4, in development for PC, PS4, PS3, Xbox One and 360 with a November 18 release date. The open-world FPS is set in Kyrat, a wild region of the Himalayas. More details inside.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — May 15, 2014 — Today, Ubisoft announced Far Cry 4, an open-world, first-person shooter that delivers the most expansive and immersive Far Cry experience ever. Far Cry 4 will be available November 18 in the US and November 20 in the EMEA territories for PlayStation 4® computer entertainment system, PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, the all-in-one games and entertainment system, Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC.

Development on Far Cry 4 is being led by Ubisoft Montreal in collaboration with Red Storm Entertainment, a Ubisoft studio, Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Kiev.

In Far Cry 4, players find themselves in Kyrat, a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king. Using a vast array of weapons, vehicles and animals, players will write their own story across an exotic open-world landscape.

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” said Dan Hay, Executive Producer. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry 4 will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

Customers who pre-order Far Cry 4 receive a free upgrade to the Limited Edition which includes Hurk’s Redemption, a series of three action-packed single-player missions featuring the popular character Hurk from Far Cry 3’s DLC. The Limited Edition also includes Hurk’s signature harpoon gun called “The Impaler”. The pre-order is now available at all major retailers.

Fans can tune into Ubisoft’s Media Briefing at E3 for an exclusive first look at Far Cry 4.

Boy is that a stupid looking character, I enjoyed Far cry 3 albeit I got it for free on Ps+.

I quite liked the cover art, very reminiscent of Far Cry 3's cover art.

Really wish Ubisoft had released a trailer with the announcement, they didn't even release in-game images, which is weird. And I know they might be saving the game's trailer/gameplay video(s) to their E3 press conference, but if so, why even announce it now?!

It certainly would have made a whole lot more of an impact showing the game at E3 than just a press release with the cover art now, which does almost nothing for me. Anyway, as long as it's as great as FC3, this will be day 1 for me.

Far Cry 3 for me was epic, Cannot wait for this! Gutted right enough it's going to be an upscaled 360 game on nxt-gen.

Here's an interesting statement by Gameinformer which I think very well explains why :

"Here’s the reality: if you want big budget games, publishers need the opportunity to sell them. Unfortunately, that means creating games with last-gen versions. The install base isn’t big enough (and won’t be by this fall) to support the sales volume Ubisoft needs for games like Far Cry 4."

I guess it was announced because of the context of financial report stuff that is mentioned in the article text.

something is still uncertain ..
the secret project codenamed : 'Comet' might be the answer to our question
since Ubisoft just announced they are not going to abandon the current generation ..not just yet.

Hadn't thought about that, you're probably right, though it still is a lackluster announcement, since not even in-game images were released.

Either way, earger to learn more about it, since we only know where it's set and what the main villain looks like. Hope he's at least half as epic as Vaas. Absolutely loved his character, one of the best villains of all time in any media.

I highly doubt it'll release in 6 months when they haven't even shown a screenshot yet. If this was a PS2 game or a low budget PS3 game I could see it but not PS4

The cover looks a bit silly initially, but I don't see what's so bad about it.

It's not a the generic badass with a gun, so i'd give it points for that at least.

Far Cry 3 was awful pretty on PC. Didn't run terribly smoothly, but looked great. A second iteration of the engine and I imagine it'll look real sharp on PC/next gen consoles.

Yeah, I get the dissapointment to an extent but this is the right move for them to make at this stage. Besides, if it looks anywhere near as good as 3 on the pc with a good solid frame rate, there wont be much to complain about!

Far Cry 4. It's a bit like Far Cry 3. Starring Graham Norton's evil, and slightly gayer doppleganger. Looks like he's ready to do an interview in that box art.
