Xbox 360 PS3

The UEFA Euro 2008 cup is fast approaching now, and as usual EA Sports is doing the virtual version of the event. It looks like it might actually turn into a quite good game. Screens inside.

No matter how much they celebrate, Frank Ribery still looks pissed off :)

Looks phenomenal really. The demo was fantastic. Awaiting my pre-order eagerly. Just have to win 30 more ranked games to have got 1,000G on FIFA 08 and can switch to this.

I cannot wait, fifa08 was fantastic and the demo improved everything.. including adding a powerbar to passes and headers... (demo tip: take the all assists default off to either semi or manual)

I was very impressed with the demo. The 'Be a Pro' mode is really innovative and a lot of fun, and the captain mode on the final version should be fun as well.

Despite the positives, I don't feel that the gameplay is all there yet. It is still significantly far away from Pes in terms of gameplay, and many things need to be altered. For instance, the trick stick bears almost no use in my opinion - Unlike Pes it's just there for visuals, doesn't help you that much. Dribbling often feels slow and a struggle, set pieces don't feel right, shooting can be unrealistic and keepers at times are wayyyyyyyy too good.

Negative points aside, Fifa outshines Pes in a lot of areas. Game modes are much better, graphics are better (although some of the faces are disturbingly inaccurate) and there's a more professional feel to it.

I probably won't pick this up because I consider this a 'Fifa 08.1' game, but when it comes to either Fifa 09 or Pes 2009 I have a tough decision to make....

....Perhaps both? :)

I have to say, EA Sports really has re-invented themselves. Every single ea sports title since 1990 to 2006 were the same old shit over and over.

Then the 360 and ps3 came, and they revolutionized the soccer genre with the independent ball physics etc. Its really made a huge difference.
Then FIFA 2008 came and simply improved upon every single aspect, didnt buy it tough, too many other games caught my attention :/

And now this UEFA installment. The demo was spectacular. The feel is just as great as in FIFA 2007 & 2008 (should be, since its teh same engine? luls :) )
And the atmosphere is just wow. The rain is so well done, it really felt like one of those rainy matches you watch on tv or go watch live.

Great work EA, you may suck in MMO's and forcing developers to release their games way too early, but i cant deny the greatness of the sports games this generation.

As for the obligatory PES comparison.. I never liked PES, especially not this generation. I just think it feels like smurfs on speed running around like cartoon characters. Fifa07/that-engine just feels more simulation to me, and more fun.

You need to learn the right skills then ;) It's VERY useful to use fake side-steps to run past people, or even the Zidane spin to get around people trying to slide tackle you. It's all about timing - the Ronaldo heel flick is very useful too, as is the Ronaldinho elastico - they work just like they do in real life, it's just you see most people running up the wing with no opponents near, and try to 'show off' - slowing themselves down, and getting tackled.

Demo was good fun - bit of a stretch to pony up another 40 pounds on a rehashed Fifa 08, but it's certainly worth a rent.

They really don't. These pictures are terrible. But when you play the demo, go into a replay and just go round each player in turn on a close-up they're incredible, the best they've done yet. Henry, Anelka, Veira and Ribery in particular look spot on.

I've played the demo, and went into the replays to look at them. They're shocking. Ribery looks fine, but only because he's an ugly bastard anyway. When I look at these faces, it insults me to think someone sat there drawing and rendering these, thought they were good, and then got paid.
