i wonder why the default character in games such as this and mass effect always looks so fucking boring. -.-

To give you more of an incentive to customise perhaps? *shrugs*

Anyway I'm really interested in this game. I know some people don't dig it's style but it's definitely my cup of tea.

How about giving us the option of customizing some of those textures and tearing.....ughh. This game had better be damn fun, because right now I'm getting the impression of a low-budget Splinter Cell. I'll give it a try though. The gameplay could compensate for it's stale look.

That's the default state, allowing you to pin your own character design on them. Basically a blank canvas to create the pirate/spy super combo look you've been dying to pull off.

Aside from that, I'm actually looking forward to this. It looks like they've put a lot of thought into it. I'll be treating this as a slower, more methodical ME rather than anything related to Splinter Cell at all. The group dynamics of ME have been translated into more thorough personal options in this.

Finally, a dev diary showcasing the RPG side of the game. Like Mass Effect, Alpha Protocol has it's roots firmly planted in the Knights of the Old Republic series, and finally with this diary, it shows. The same team at BioWare who made KoTOR are making the Mass Effect series, and the same team at Obsidian who made KoTOR 2, are making Alpha Protocol.

Looking at the video, there are somethings here which I feel could use improvement - most notably the hand-to-hand combat. However, so long as the game play and the story is as good as KoTOR2, then I am sold. And considering Obsidian's RPG pedigree, there is no reason to believe they will not deliver on the game play or the story.

I just hope the next few diaries focus more on the RPG side of the game. Too many people think Alpha Protocol is a watered down Splinter Cell, and that misconception can be linked directly to SEGA's desire to attempt to promote an RPG as an action game - something it is clearly not. Considering how awesome KoTOR 2 was, I don't understand SEGA's choice in not playing up Alpha Protocol's marketing more to the crowd who would want to buy it in the first place, the RPG crowd. If they keep trying to market it to the Halo/Call of Duty crowd, they are going to cause this game to flop at retail. And that would be a shame, as Alpha Protocol is easily shaping up to be the best game published by SEGA in almost a decade. So they need to get their act together on the marketing and insure that RPG fans everywhere are picking up this game on day one.
