That is extremely impressive for a handheld. My only concern about the NGP is that the use of what is essentially phone hardware means next year there will be a phone that can do the same things.

I wonder if they'll be able to simply port some of the PS3 games onto the NGP

Or PS3 compatible games :P
I would love to play Ninja Gaiden 3 on this on the go.

From a technological point of view, it is impressive, but in some of those screenshots (esp. 1 and 7), the lightning is horrible, IMO. Too much black along with all those oversaturated colours makes my head hurt.

And I agree with the comment above, I would love some PS3 games on the go! :D

Oh come on now, this looks good but not 360/PS3 good. Great graphics for a hand held for sure, but not comparable to the hardware you have under your TV.

That's kind of what worries me with the NGP though. What i disliked about the PSP was that it felt more like one of the consoles, based on it's game library, only with a small screen and awkward/uncomfortable/poor controls. A lot of the games on the system weren't really designed for the kind of arcady on the go gameplay that a handheld needs. Let's face it, wiht a portable system i want games suited for it, not a PS3 in my pocket. Going to be interesting to see if this manages to do what it's predecessor couldnt though and what a portable with graphics like this will mean for developers.

Agreed about the graphics. It definitely looks like they are shooting for the same looking game, but to me it looks like they are cheating a bit to achieve the same look. Drake actually looks better imo, but the lighting and environments look very static and low res in some shots (i.e. pic 1, Drake looks amazing, but he looks pasted onto a low res environment). Still VERY impressive for a handheld though.

As much as I dislike spending a lot of money, I think now that phones and handhelds are surpassing current gen consoles, we need to see some new, impressive consoles soon. As a bit of a tech geek, I don't want to have to buy a handheld just to get the best graphics out there...

What handheld games are comparable to the current consoles though? I mean i've seen some games that look great for portable titles but still not really comparable to 360/PS3. This is the closest and the textures and polycounts are still lower in an instantly visible way.

Pretty nice but also clearly bullshots as they're too high-res and have high levels of AA.

Also as jenesuispasbavard said the NGP hardware is basically a more powerful version of the iPad 2 SOC, so it's a good bet that iPad 3 and iPhone 6 will be as powerful as NGP, if not more so. No buttons obviously but not even the tactile feel of real buttons could make me carry round something as obese as an NGP.

I never really understood handheld games. If I am going to play a game I'll play it at home when I have time, on a big screen.

I've played a lot of games on my iphone on the buss/train, but that's kind of the thing. I can play a few rounds of Sword & Poker on the train and that's fine but i don't want God of War for that, i want something i can just jump in to and play for a few minutes and then be done with.

I'm not saying that every game on handhelds is better than every game on consoles, but this is clearly still better looking than 75% of games on 360 and PS3. Not to mention there are a few games on my iphone that put the majority of my PS3 games to shame. Also, like Moroboshi said, the next generation of phones is almost guaranteed to surpass console graphics with the new tech they are coming out with. I think the next gen consoles are going to have to be incredibly powerful to blow us away. Can you imagine seeing the big reveal for PS4 or X720 only to notice that the graphics look "slightly better" than your f-ing phone???

Agreed. I mean, some portable games do look great like you said, but they certainly have their teeny, tiny screen size to thank for that, and even then, I would never say portable games surpass console games as a whole just because some of the best look better than some of the worst.

No, that is NOT true at all. First of all, this is going to be pretty pricey, and dedicated to gaming. Second of all, it will be a battery hog. Phones don't need that much power, so they will keep to cheaper manufacturing prices, rather than needless amounts of power.

What the fuck.... FUCK OFF. You are fucking STUPID. I am sorry, but you are STUPID. You actually buy that shit? FIRST OF ALL this looks great, but compared to most current gen games, it does NOT look better, especially if you only count more recent games, which have the benefit of understanding the tech, like with this. If you think that a fucking iPhone game is "blowing away" anything but Tenchu Z, you need to open your eyes. Phones are not improving faster than consoles, and if you look at PCs you'll get an idea of just how much better consoles are likely to be. A moderate contemporary PC with a 500/6000 series video card, a sandy bridge CPU, and 4-8 gigs of ram is not only affordable, but smokes the current consoles. And if you go for a high end rig? A PC today can perform at massively higher levels than any phone, console, or handhold.

I want to say that they will have about that. I could be wrong, but the screen is very high resolution, I know that. I'm sure you could easily know the resolution with a quick google.

lol and people think the PS3 AND XBOX 360 have so much more power and hidden potential NON sense the NGP has visuals close to PS3.....and to think people say there not ready for Next Gen......

This handheld game just proves just how outdated the home consoles really are

where are the psv's visuals close to the ps3's WHERE, ive never seen so much bullshit in a thread, please look at those screen shots again and tell me there even remotly close to what the ps3 can do, from what i see there is a significant poly count drop, lighting is no where near the same plus as its on a handheld the graphcs resolution will be far lower so most of this crap will go un noticed, seriously the psp didnt have graphics close to ps2 and neither does the psv have graphics close to the ps3, as nice as they are there not ps3 quality.

this game looks freaking amazing, visually, it's no U2 for sure, but on a smaller screen it doesnt need to be. in motion this thing is gonna be 100% comparable to that of it's PS3 bretheren. this is the one game that would get me to buy an NGP day 1. assuming it has the same uncompromising polish and quality of the home consoles games.

People, let's not get over our heads so quickly. Handhelds don't surpass the big consoles. Yes, they are impressive. Yes, they have good technology. But making them EXACTLY as powerfull as a, say, PS3, will mean that you, along with the developers, will be spending much more money on them.

Even if future phones will pass NGP graphically, they will still only have touch screen controls which are useless. The graphics quality will be lot better with future games also as every NGP will have the same hardware and developers will learn how to optimize and push the hardware, just like with the consoles.
