Images PC Xbox 360 PS3

Since it was officially announced a few weeks ago, the only images of The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim that could be found on the net were poor quality scans. Today, here is the very first 720p image of the game showing what the new engine is capable of.

^Now that's a compliment. LoS has quite possibly got some of the lushest environment art going.

As long as Skyrim has rich and untrodden look to it I'll be happy. Cyrodiil was beautiful if a little characterless.

For some reason the screen can't impress me incredibly much, but i still love it. It's full of atmosphere and a great change from Oblivion, Oblivion didn't have these kind of environments.

Also..be sure to read this.

@ Hotkirby.

In the link the guy provided in an earlier post there was a little bit of info on each tech system in the game.

In the graphics portion of the description of this game, they said they have implemented sufficient lighting and shadows (on everything), as opposed to the last game which only had shadows on certain objects or players.

First screenshot of the game, and it was announced and ''only announced''-as in there was no other info other than the announcement of its existence. Very highly possible this is some type of alpha build they slapped together for a single screenshot. Dont be so skeptical. From the distance of the screenshot, it almost looks to rival what i have seen of Gears of War 3, which is still looking to be the best graphical showcase in the coming year.

I hope not.

Am I the only one who thinks Oblivion was pretty boring?
No, there are probably others around with similarly poor taste. :P

I wonder if their engine borrows any assets from the RAGE engine...

Looks decent. No shadows? What's a great engine without great usage? Oblivion had a somewhat poor combat system and the animations were piss poor. Fix the animation. That's ALL i ask. I'd rather have less variety in characters and more time spent on each animation than the other way around.

To each their own iraiptoir....i wa a huge fan of oblivion...no matter what high profile games that came out I always found myself diving right back into oblivion. At the time oblivion offered the most exploration and customization that virtually any other game out there. Whether or not you were a fan of oblivion or not you do have to admit that oblivion was a good game and it does deserve credit for paving the way for most other action/story oriented rpgs out there

No, I was never able to enjoy Oblivion, because it is lacking story.
A rpg with boring story is imo boring.

Though it was pretty atmospheric...

In regards to customisation did you play Morrowind? That had far more customisation be it skills or apparel.

I for one liked what they did with the combat system, it meant I didn't need to have "skill" with a sword to have it hit something.

That was my biggest gripe with Morrowind, being 1st/3rd person I felt the use of dice roll algorithms to figure out if I hit that Nix hound with my arrow was not quite right. It fits with something like Dragon Age: Origins or NWN but it never connected with me in the 1st person...

Don't get me wrong man, I only didn't liked it that's all, I don't think it was bad or anything in fact I can't say that at all seeing that I didn't liked it.

maybe it was because I just recently played it like 2 weeks ago recently and I think IMO it has not dated very well.

Its juts not my type of game and for what I played it indeed animated like shit and was boring as all hell, but thats just my opinion in a sea of opinions.

:P

now that you mention it, it really doesnt have any shadows. weird, you'd think that would be priority 1 when it came to this "new" engine they're suposedly using (well, after the animations)? to have actual dynamic shadows. it's not looking great tho. i thought it looked really nice when i saw the scans. but this isnt really wowing me. it kinda just looks like fallout 3 quality wise.

Could be an old screenshot, as the engine features dynamic shadows. Or, alternatively, it could be one of the last things they add - like with Fallout 3.

Yes it is.

There's something wrong with your eyes.

Let's not forget that this is more or less a year away. It'll look spectacular come release, I've no doubts about that.

weird. the 360 version of fallout 3 never had shadows (i'm talking buildings and trees, not characters), i guess they forgot to do that last bit...lol.

actually there are shadows in there, it's just that the lightsource (sun) is beaming upright from above. Not the best idea to show what the new engine is capable of... look into the cave entry on the lower left side, you should be able to see what i mean.
