GSY Live PC PS4

No Man's Sky will finally be available on PC today at around 6 p.m. CEST. Although we have sadly not been sent any code by Hello Games, we have decided to stream the game anyway after purchasing it ourselves. If you're curious to see what it's like and you haven't made up your mind about it yet, join us at 9 p.m. tonight for a new livestream.
Update : Livestream cancelled. The capture PC is down.
Update 2 : For lack of a livestream here are 2 direct feed videos of the disappointing PC version of NMS. The guys at Hello Games should have a lot on their plate in the next few weeks.

What driftwood is not saying is that the hard drive of the capture PC actually CAUGHT FIRE after he changed the PSU. Yup, actual fire :D

It reminds me of one of Gordon Ramsay's shows in which one of the apprentices managed to burn sausages - burn till they were black - while they were underwater, to which Gordon Ramsay asked how in the hell did the guy doi it, because he himself had never seen that happen before and had no idea how on Earth the guy managed to do it. He also complemented the guy by saying he had a "talent" for being able to make something like that possible.

From an I.T. person to another, I must ask: How in the hell did Driftwood manage to make a Hard Drive Disc "caught fire" just by changing the Power Supply Unit?! This question is only valid IF - and only if - you guys didn't skimp on the PSU, i.e. bought a cheap no name PSU because that's like playing with a live grenade. Please, please tell me you guys didn't skimp on the PSU.

Additionally, don't ever let Driftwood mess with a PC's hardware ever again. Maybe he has a "talent" for this sort of stuff and... better safe than sorry. :P

PS. This Reddit thread has a few explanations on why a bad PSU can make a HDD caught fire:

It is (was?) a Corsair RM750x. I never skimp on quality, especially for PSUs.

Damn. A Corsair. Corsair is one of the best PSU brands and I'm honestly quite surprised to know it was a Corsair PSU, I have gotten them in the past - even though I'm using a Seventeam PSU now - and they're excellent.

Now I'm more intrigued to know what the hell did Driftwood do to the PSU, because it's most likely a human problem. Does Driftwood knows where to attach which cable to which part?! :P

"dropping to 30fps for looking at a rock, sli 980s-5930k at 4.2ghz" "10 FPS on a GTX 980?" "Unless you like setting the game to cap at 60 fps, yet still getting 30 fps, with stuttering more frustrating and irritating than Arma 3" "i7 5820K @ 5ghz and 2 Gtx 980ti's and I can't hit a stable 60fps..." - Steam user reviews, Mostly Negative out of 3,300.
Welp.

Well...I watched some PC gameplay stream on YT. If I exclude YT shitty quality, PC really isn´t superior to consoles with this game and yes...the framerate is strange sometimes. It looks exactly the same. I thought the resolution will be sharp as fu**.

Played it a bit after work. i7-2600k 4.6Ghz, 16GB RAM, 980ti, installed on SSD seems to run fine for me. Didn't have any issues crashing and smoothed out after a bit of initial stuttering (which Hello Games has said to expect due to a shader bug). It will occasionally stutter just a tad as new stuff is loading in but it mostly runs at a pretty smooth 60fps for me. Put it this way: It runs better than Arkham Knight did even after its first couple patches on the same hardware. And I'd argue that this is perhaps the more ambitious title...

As TB said, one can't claim the game runs good on PC simply because it runs on his PC. And then something about world hunger and sandwiches.

Hence why I said it "seems to run fine for ME." Key words there being "for" and "me." But after perusing through Steam's forums for the game a little bit, there seem to be 2 predominant situations. 1: The user with a potato of a PC getting legitimately upset that this game doesn't run on their 1yr old black friday special. 2: The "power user" with a GTX 970/980 that expects every single game to run rock solid at 1440p 144hz with every setting maxed. Both of those are flawed mindsets to have. This game was made by 15 people. And for a good chunk of the game's development it was even fewer. Expectations need to be in check in THIS occasion. If this were the latest call of duty title with a 300 person team, then yeah I'd get it. But this is a small team who put together a very ambitious title using more or less experimental tech. Therefore, (true story) the lady saying that Hello Games and Steam should be ashamed of themselves for releasing a game that doesn't run on her Asus laptop equipped with a power sipping CPU and GPU doesn't get my sympathy.

For those interested, here is what happened with driftwood's capture pc. Basically Akasa and corsair PSU use the same connectors for their SATA rails, except they are not wired the same. So instead of 5v the HDD (but also ssd and DVD drive) got some nice and balmy 12v (I guess) and blew up with more or less flames. All dead, but at least the 12 core Xeon CPU and motherboard were untouched.

Thanks for the explanation, BlimBlim.

That's some very strong voltage indeed, at least the most expensive parts are fine if only the HDD, SSD and DVD Drive got destroyed.

There are some tools that can measure the voltage and also current of PSU connectors, they aren't expensive and can also measure from other sources. My brother has one that we use sometimes.

If you guys have a way to prove the PSU's connectors were faulty, you guys can charge Corsair for damages and they will have to buy a new HDD, SSD and DVD Drive for you guys.

Hopefully, you guys can use or buy another HDD for live streaming in the meanwhile. And think on the positive side, it happened while there was someone awake and near the PC to shut it off and extinguish the fire before it did more damage to the PC's other parts and/or extended to other objects in the house.

Good luck!

PS. Driftwood should share what his experience was by seeing fire coming from the capture PC, I bet he was terrified at first. I know I would be.

Nothing was faulty, driftwood just used the sata cables from the AKASA PSU on his new Corsair PSU. Same connectors, but different wiring...

Wait a second. You mean there are different specs for SATA power cables? (Not data, right?) Jesus Christ, I've been using them interchangeably since I built my first PC two years ago.

Ah... Now I get it. So it was "Human error" after all.

Don't forget to spank Driftwood for not using Corsair PSU's own SATA cables. :P

No, he means different modular PSU cables, having the same connectors on the PSU side is rare between different manufacturers, but can cause this problems.
