After being released in early August on PSN, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is also available on XBLA since last week. Here is a 10 minute video that shows the second level of the game for once. Please note that the little green flashes you may see at the beginning of the video are glitches from the capture, not the game itself.
I have thought a lot about it and decided not to give you my detailed impressions on Scott Pilgrim. The main reason is that it clearly is not a game for me and I would not be objective enough, which is obviously something we do not want here. You will see in the video that the game is actually very challenging, even when playing on the medium difficulty setting with a level 7 character. True, I would not say I am giving it my best here, but I could not even get excited by the retro look of Ubisoft's title, though I usually love the pixels of my 2D old games. From what I have read though, it is definitely worth a shot when you like the genre and you can play with your friends at home (unfortunately there is no online co-op). So how about you make up your own opinion by downloading the demo now?

The key is to play this a bit like Mystical Ninja/Goemon for those that remember that Snes hit. You have to do a bit of grinding otherwise you'll find the later levels very difficult. You have to return to the shopping district a few times to buy XP and Boost your stats to take on the later baddies.
The moves you learn later on definitely help. The speed of the game increases dramatically too by the time you reach the end.
The levels are very imaginative and there are lots of nods to other beat em ups. (Golden Axe, Streets of Rage etc)
The game doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a bit of light hearten fun with an old skool touch that i thought was lost with modern games
For 800mp you can't go wrong. Definitely a game thats meant to be played coop. Grab some mates round n have a blast.
Just needs online co-op.
I think the biggest draw for this game is it's charm though. It's colorful, great animation, chip tunes playing and...well, it jsut feels very retro and i can't help but liking it for that but i think the gameplay is kind of shitty and not expecially well thought through. Like why don't you get your grapple move untill lv 6? You can't do squat against a blocking opponent until you get that move.
It's certainly no Streets of rage, but it has it's charm and for 800 points i guess it's alright...or have i just been brainwashed by MS and their infernal 1200 points summer of arcade?
I only played so those who did not try the demo could see what it's about. Yep, I'm that nice. ^^
