Xbox 360 PS3

Eletronic Arts released this video of SKATE showing some of the animations in the game. And it moves really really well!

Competition is good. Acually I am tired of the direction of the TH series. This might be a good change.

Wow, looks realistic! EA are taking a bit of a risk with this by not having ridiculous trick combos but hopefully it works out because I'm kinda bored of Tony Hawks almost having a DDR like approach to gameplay now.

I have mixed feelings on this one so far, some moves are a bit strange, not "smooth" enough and you can see the guy pulling up pretty impossible tricks for a "simulation" but oh well I'll wait and see the final result, it's already great to finally have some competition for Activision and Neversoft !

hhm.

Not wanting to troll about aliasing and I'm sure it'll be addressed, but compared to the stuff originally shown a while ago, this seems way short graphically.

Thanks for pointing that out, cos I always get the two genres mixed up...

You missed my point

LoL no worries, I was thinking back to the old games that had these urban settings, aweful graphics by todays standards but enjoyable none the less.

Now that developers are able to create near releastic environments, it seems eiry to me that they are unpopulated. Now im not saying a GTA level or anything like, that some life needs to be injected into the backgrounds.

You probably don't notice since your focus is on controlling your character, or looking at the floor, but watching the vids you see alot of the environment, so naturally my attention was else where.

Looks a lot better gameplaywise than Tony Hawks, even though there's not much info about the controls.

Just what I was about to say. Would have liked to see is "falling down" (there got to be some cool skate term for that) realistic as well. Seeing your mates cracking their skulls to pavement and grinding railings whit testicles is at least half of the fun of skating (to me). Bring on the ragdolls.

Hopefully this shows the devs of TH that they can't just sit back and release the same game continually

I don't think that the devs will change the rate of realism in the TH series. They'll always keep their unrealistic hoverboard like gameplay (and hopefully they'll fail with their upcoming unrealistic skateboardinggames ;) ).
I think you can compare these two games best with Burnout/Forza or Dead or Alive/Fight Night.

The video itself looks great. Perfect animations (although they aren't that smooth) and finally REALISM (that's all I wanted)...

"REALISM (that's all I wanted)..."

YES! AHH! I can't stand playing TH games for that reason. Besides the fact that you are on a skateboard, TH has nothing to do with skating! There is no reward for landing a hard trick or a trick you have been trying all day (like real skating). Besides the fact that you can land any trick without having even trying (in the game). They have never brought anything over from what makes real skating what it is, into their games. Which is what is SO FRICKEN AWESOME about Skate! The controls sound awesome (from everything I have read).

I wish more games would take risks and do different stuff with controls (besides switching buttons around). This is a buy no matter how it ends up. If nothing else, it's something different than TH!

Actually, everything in that video is well within the realm of what pros are currently capable of. And, as pointed out in a recent interview, anything that does surpass the current limits of skateboarding in the game will be attainable by skaters in the near future as skating progresses.

That statement is a little worrisome to me, but from what we've seen about this game so far I'm confident that it will still be pretty realistic. This is what I always wanted TH to be :p

This is all i've wanted from a skating game ever since THPS2. I'm really looking forward to this!

Positive Reactions
+Realistic Tricks.
+Great graphics.
+Good animations (ok not perfect blending, but it is good)
+big city with realistic spots (no garbage bag quater pipes -read IGN interview- ), spot hunting FTW!

Hopefully
-Controls will be easy to pick up but tough to master.
-Character customisation/creation - Lots and lots and lots of variety please!

Looks like it needs work, but the skating is believable which is an achievement in itself.

This game will rock, but I am surprised this trailer got released with all those glitches (especially gfx). But I've said it before, and I'll say it again; This game can be made out of a bunch of grey untextured polys and it'll still provide the most fun I've had in a game in years...

The enviorments are extremely dull, I'm hoping they will be populated with plenty people and cars like some earlier screenshots suggested.

I'm definitely digging this realistic approach in terms of gameplay, but then they have to make the enviroments realistic as well.
Without any population, it simply isn't, and it misses the "charm" of going out skating on a busy friday evening in town kind of thing...
