Video Xbox 360 PS3

Dante's Inferno was released some time ago but DjMizuhara thought some of you might need some more convincing so he captured a few videos of the Xbox 360 version of the game.

Bought despite the fact my own complains of scythe being your only weapon and the bad reviews, I really enjoyed it, and by surprise the combat is fluid, fast and just pure fun...once you max Dante out.

And it has Gates of Hell (arena mode) and Trials of St Lucia (which I think is going to be great).

Anyways, I thought it was a very cool game, unique and fresh look with the atmosphere and all, very cool.

Here's my opinion, though no one will probably give a shit.
The game has a great subject matter its built off of, though it does not live up to half of the gates of hell and falls short anywhere outside of atmospheric design. They spent a lot of time with the atmosphere, level and sound design and it shows... however not as much time with the type of gameplay you will be doing or the ai you will be doing it against.
This causes it to slowly turn it into a take-on as many monsters as possible endurance run, different monsters are gradually introduced through out the gates of hell, however for some reason they stop short after the beginning of the glutton gate, from that point on you will no longer see (outside of the bosses & mini-bosses) new monsters.
Many elements of the gates of hell fall short of what could of been accomplished, for example if you were to envision a gluttonous world filled with putrid, fat and hungry monsters just itching to add you to their meals -- it doesn't even scratch that surface.
Think of controlling a huge goliath monster and destroying everything in your path until it's brought down -- you're more confined to a circle with maybe 1 or 2 fights or simply just to ride one for a segway for awhile.
However, the beginning pays off very well, this trickling doesn't truly start until you realize you're at a new gate of hell and completely pasted the one prior without even knowing it.
The puzzle aspect never really evolves into to anything and more or less becomes two or three obstacles of no real challenge to get through.
Over all, even if you had no preconceived notion of either Devine Comedy or the game itself, you'll find yourself completely immersed in it from the beginning, this is a good thing. But you will soon enough find that its grandeur never pays off as you progress and it's lackluster begins to show.
Ultimately this trickle down effect of it's epic grandeur ruins the game, it starts off good, then becomes extremely stagnant and bland -- almost as if they simply ran out of time or ideas and decided to throw in a bunch of quick time events and bonus battles -- forgetting that by doing these arena style challenges in the midst of a supposed epic story, you completely and intentionally DISENGAGE the player from the world, and remind them it is a game they're playing that no longer takes itself seriously as it' was previously portraying.
It's sad really, I had hopes for this game being the end all be all action/adventure third person game for 360. Granted I didn't have any expectations, outside of the idea of immersing myself in the world of Dante's Inferno, but all it succeeded in doing was reminding how half-assed games are pushed onto gamers and never living up to their companies claims.

*Bummer.
