Video PC Xbox 360 PS3

We just received a copy of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 so here is a first video of the game. We will start with an entire match opposing Manchester United to Marseilles in normal mode. You will notice the French commentaries, unfortunately these were the only available commentaries with the German ones. More videos will come in the next few days.
update 2: Third video added. I played on the hardest difficulty setting and it shows.

the faces are awesome.

Hard to tell by the video but i hope the goalie AI is alot better in the retail than it is in the demo - where you may as well play with an open net

Looks really damn good. Demo was fun. I prefer PES over FIFA. For some reason I find it almost impossible to aim your shot in FIFA, I can pretty much only score on a cross in FIFA, not so PES.

doesn't look like the best game in the vids (doesnt help most vids are set to lower difficulty) but when you are playing on the hardest difficulty, it's one of the most satisfying football games i've ever played.

i've switched to fifa due to pes08 and pes09 suck-age but now im happily back on the pes team.

How weird is it that PES is now the series with the better graphics, whilst FIFA can boast the better gameplay? It was the exact opposite last gen.

It would be so obvious to use the Euphoria engine in sport games. I don't play sports games at all but I watched this video and the animation doesn't looks good to me.

Pro Evo's AI cheats, actually (Konami have admitted this themselves, albeit with a positive spin), especially on the higher difficulties, the main reason i stopped playing master league (and eventually quit pes altogether when FIFA surpassed it), another thing i can remember is players on my team (that i wasn't controlling) throwing in sliding challenges and giving pens away in stoppage time in games to get the cpu a draw/win, lol.

I would say no, pes looks good when it stands still like the good faces and overall graphics, but in motion fifa looks more fluid and has better animations.

You'd be in the minority with that opinion, and I'd agree with it. PES has some really nice lighting and shadowing this year that is better than Fifa's, but I still find PES's colour pallet far too garish, giving it a cartoon-like look to it. Fifa's last year was the same, but you'll notice with '10 that they toned the colour down giving it a slightly more realistic tone to it. People noticed this and instantly claimed the graphics had gotten worse, however. They both look very nice, just a different artistic direction, but Fifa's player models (body shapes and some faces) and animations are just far more pleasing to the eye IMO. Football is as much a visual thing as it is something you feel in your hands when playing it on a console. When you look at the first couple of passes being sprayed about in this video, it just looks so on rails and scripted, almost robotic-like. It doesn't look natural at all. The "E" in PES stands for Evolution. It hasn't been doing that in five years.

I don't see how he would 'be in the minority' by saying that, as most people tend to agree that PES looks better visually - i.e. in still shots - while FIFA is more fluid in its movement and has far superior animations.

Anyway, FIFA 10's a fantastic game, but its great gameplay kinda overshadows many of its faults. The graphics do need improving in my opinion - if the visuals can match the animations, then that really would be something. But, more importantly, EA needs to try and incorporate more of an atmosphere into FIFA. I think 1UP giving FIFA 10 a 7.5/10 is absolutely ridiculous, but I actually agree with them that there is a real sense of atmosphere missing in the game. I want the crowd, commentary team and players to go crazy when I score a goal; I want stadiums to feel like cauldrons of noise and passion. FIFA 10 doesn't really have that. At least, not in abundance.

i got both games, imo, pes graphics are better than fifa, but fifas gameplay is more fluid.

pes is like a couple of robots on a green and they try to play football.

pes has some really nice player faces and good self shadowing on players. but thats the only things pes makes better than fifa. pes has some new animations but it still looks to robotic. no dynamic in play and shooting looks like in every pes game before. not really realistic. to bad that this series has come tu such an bad end. if they dont build a new game (and this means everything new) they will only develop the 2. best game. fifa 11 will have a new gfx engine and the gameplay just needs some tweeks to get perfect (slower, better crossings/corner physics and more power to volleys/header) than its the perfect soccer game

Agree with everything you just said.

@blmbox, I think the reason for that score was to simply go against the grain. You always get one or two that does that when something is getting really good scores across the board just to be controversial. The fact that Fifa 10 is riddled with bugs is enough for people to downgrade it, even though it's got the core elements right, which are gameplay enhancements. I've only really noticed one bug, though I've been smart and avoided the MM until the patch comes.

I'm a bit confused about the situation regarding game bugs, simply because I haven't actually seen any. Loads of people have been moaning about the blatant bugs in Manager Mode, but I'm about 5/6 games into it and haven't noticed a single one. Could some point me out as to what 'game breaking' bugs there supposedly are in FIFA 10?

Don't want to go to a classic PES vs FIFA war, but I still cannot stand with these horrible player animations on PES, and the audio ambience which is totally lame.

Players faces are amazing, but for some I think that the head is strangely shaped?

I think that, in a zoomed screen, PES looks better than FIFA. But overall(moving, animations and stadiums), Fifa is still above.

But actually we have a draft year with a terrificly bugged FIFA 10 and a PES in which the developers tried to fill the graphic objective while give us back the PS2 gameplay with nothing more.

conclusion: 2011 will be the football games year :P

I still don't think we've had the definitive football game - well, not since PES 5. I kinda wish a third party would enter the competition and really produce a video game that does the wonderful sport justice.

Or, at the very least, football games should be released every two years with the gap filled by (free) transfer and kit updates, as well as interesting modes in the form of DLC. I've always maintained that this should be the case with football games, but sadly it'll never happen.

Agree with blmbox. A third, independent developer -- preferably a small team with members who are passionate about the sport -- would be very welcome. Sort of like what SimBin did for the racing genre... This year I don't like either football offering. FIFA has great and fluid build-up play, animations and passing, but shooting and heading still feels wrong and unsatisfying, the opponent-AI is non-existent (in SP) and the goals are all samey. PES has great graphics but gameplay-wise it is just rehashing an engine that is basically 7 years and two generations old and that pretty much shows.

Won't happen of course with a third dev, because you have to put so much work and money into it since we gamers are a spoilt bunch: we want great graphics, licences and of course a sim-like gameplay experience. And for the sake of cashing in, none of the two will skip a year. As a matter of fact, EA is probably working on the WC game for next year as we speak.
