GSY Review PC PS4 Xbox One Wii U Xbox 360 PS3

Child of Light was first announced back in September 2013 and its unique arts style immediately made it very appealing to us. After completing the game, we can say the journey we experienced was quite memorable, even though it could have used some more varied and challenging puzzles. To find out what we thought about Ubisoft's first JPRG, follow us inside. As usual with most of our reviews, you'll find the full article on the French side.

Verdict

For barely €15, Child of Light will take you on a journey not that many full priced titles can even dream of delivering. The main storyline isn't that long, especially for a role playing game, but it should be noted that backtracking is possible at any time in the game, pushing you to explore the world in search for hidden chests or stardusts, which means most players will have something to sink their teeth into. Completing the main quest leaves you with two options: you can keep exploring the world or start a New Game + to max out your characters and find the remaining secrets. Child of Light is a bit too easy in normal mode, so we advise you to select the hardest difficulty setting to make the most of the excellent combat system. It unfortunately won't change the difficulty of the few puzzles you'll encounter, both too predictable and accessible, but it really is the only negative thing we can say about the game overall. A game that starts with "Once upon a time" but that will leave you with the need for more.

You can use Google Translator to get a very good translation of Gamersyde's French review.

Below is the French page translated into English by Google Translator:
http://translate.google.com.br/translate?hl=en&sl=...

You can understand everything with little effort, even if it sometimes is a little incoherent. Hope that helps.

You can't imagine how hard I laughed when reading the French comments translated into terrible English. :D

Google even changed a few guys' name so basically Deepbluesea, Maddemon and Cryoakira all became Moonwalker. Beats me why. ^^

Play in hard mode, it's perfectly balanced, so you get challenge without the need of farming.

Yeah, I saw "Moonwalker" in the comments and thought it was our English side "Moonwalker", but then realized the avatar image wasn't the same.

Your "Driftwood @fundream: pas du gâteau ce concours. :)" comment became "Driftwood @ Moonwalker: no cake contest. :) ". ROFL

Have no idea why Google Translator is doing that to the comments section, but the 1st paragraph of the French review was a good translation, with some "minor" incoherent things.

It's better than nothing I guess, but I wish I had the time to translate everything like before. You'll get the Daylight review tomorrow morning though, I had some extra hand on this one.

Lol wtf. Yeah quite strange.

Anyway, the combat seems turn-based. Means it won't be for me.

Ah yes, well as good as all the other things in that game may be, i can never get used to turn-based combat. I tried many JRPG's and i just never finished them cause i couldn't find any enjoyment in the combat. Ah well.

I know what you mean, I feel the same about the RTS genre. Guess the term 'front-line pig' is accurate here. I hate clicking symbols to build shit, just like you hate clicking menus to execute shitty animated actions. I like being involved in the action instead of commanding. I have no problems with turn based RPGs though, it's quite the opposite, i enjoy it and frankly i find it quite relaxing not having to respond to an enemy's action with adequate counter-measures in a split second of time or else it's total defeat... Plus, i have a 2D fetish, so even better. :)

Makes me wonder: When is Valiant Hearts due ? Haven't heard anything new since the announcement trailer...

Exactly man, i want to be fully involved in the fights. I should be able to freely move around and attack whenever i want. I remember playing FF7 and Chrono Cross, absolutely awesome...but i never got to finish them because of the turn-based combat.I also gave that turd FFXIII and XIII-2 a chance, same story. Lost Oddysey, another great game but i could not get past the combat.

Dragon Age Origins wasn't turn-based perse, but its combat was what held me back in the long run, simply so damn boring while all else was great. Only thing DA2 did well was the combat, DAI seems to give us both Origins combat and free combat. So far Final Fantasy XV seems a bit free combat too in the videos, i'd love that.
