GSY Review PS5 Xbox Series X PC Switch

Fourteen years ago, Mickey Mouse tried to convince players to buy a Nintendo Wii but failed to due to its horrendous camera issues. Disney Epic Mickey nonetheless managed to appeal to enough player to deserve a sequel two years later. Sadly, despite being released on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii, the reviews were even less enthusiastic. It is then with a bit of curiosity that we started playing Epic Mickey Rebrushed, a pretty polished remaster of the first episode. Now that gameplay does not rely on motion gaming, controls work fine overall and the game feels much better to play. The addition to several new moves (Mickey can now sprint, dash and launch a ground slam attack) is nice, though some of them don't really feel especially necessary to progress. There is still a bit too much backtracking, the level design isn't anything to write home about, but the game world is actually quite interesting and so is its atmosphere. This new version of the game may not be a must-buy, but for those who miss the 16 bits era of Mickey Mouse games, it's a nice experience to play through, even more so on Steam Deck as it feels right at home (at 60 fps). It is however a shame that it is priced at $59.99/€59.99 as we believe 39.99/49.99 would have been much more engaging. Purple Lamp has done a good job at bringing back this 2010 Wii game to allow a new audience to discover it, but there is only so much you can do with a remaster.
