The Sexy Brutale was announced back in August and after quite a few trailers lately, it will finally be available this week on PS4, Xbox One and PC. We've had time to complete the game last week, si check out our verdict inside. As usual, the full review is available on the French side. We remind you that we will quickly present the game tonight in a new livestream, which will give us the opportunity to explain its mechanics a bit more thoroughly.
Verdict
The Sexy Brutale is quite an original title, mixing Cluedo and Groundhog Day in a different way than Shadow of Memories in its days. It clearly won't appeal to everyone, as it's a game based on exploration, observation and repetition somehow, but it's nice to see something different in the medium. Lafcadio Boone only has 12 hours to save the mansion's guests, but he can repeat those 12 hours as many times as necessary to achieve his goal. Saving a guest will allow him to unlock a new power, which will open up new possibilities to save others. Of course, having to start over every 12 hours means you'll only save people for a short time. Is it possible to save them all? Well that's part of the mystery. We've enjoyed our time with The Sexy Brutale, thought we thought it was maybe a bit too easy, hence short, to complete. Its atmosphere and setting are still worth your time provided you're not deterred by the concept itself. If you're into novels or movies, don't expect the ending to feel very original either, though it all fairness, the plot is still engaging enough and the characters pretty interesting.
- On the plus side
- The game world itself
- The concept
- The "puzzles"
- The atmosphere
- The soundtrack
- Exploring the mansion
- The characters
- On the downside
- Could (should?) have been more difficult
- Not a game for everyone
- The ending is too reminiscent of a famous novel/movie

Though I haven't played the game and don't know if that particular situation applies to the game or not. Lastly, is there no difficulty option or anything that you can disable - like hints or UI - to make the game more challenging?
