GSY Video PC PS4 Xbox One

Set in London as the city is infested with brand new living dead inhabitants, Zombi (without U) is back on Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC. Originally built around the specificity of Nintendo's gamepad, has this port managed to keep all the tension of the original game? To find out our verdict and a bunch of gameplay videos, join us inside. For the full review, head ver to the French side.

Verdict

The Wii U version actually received quite a warm welcome from players when the Wii U was released, even though it was not perfect by any means. It is then no wonder to see that this port is not any less appealing, despite the absence of Nintendo's gamepad. Checking the content of your backpack still doesn't pause the game, which always makes it very dangerous to do so when you're surrounded by the undead. The game has therefore not become any easier and it offers the very same challenge as before, but we wish it had benefited from a visual overhaul, and maybe even from new features to justify the port. That being said, if you have never played Zombi U and you lkke challenging survival games, it would be a shame not to give it a go. It may not be the great game we would have wanted it to be, but it's not a bad one either.
  • On the plus side
  • Excellent atmosphere
  • Challenging but never unfair
  • Good replay value
  • Honest price tag ($19.99/€19.99)
  • On the down side
  • Graphically disappointing
  • Loading times are too frequent
  • No multiplayer anymore (although it makes sense)

Nothing worse than a lazy port. Can't support that.

prefer the look of the original wii-u version tbh. This is also one of the few games designed to take advantage of the controller isn't it? If I had the choice i'd easily go for that version

apparently they've even removed some of the atmospheric bells and whistles, like the lens effects (dirt and dust on the lens) still seems the wii-u version is the way to go. do kinda wish i'd have know this was coming though, i'd have waited and not bothered with an entire console.

Hey davton how's the duration of the game? Does it have an ending or it's just roaming around until you eventually get killed?

There's a story, though it's not particularly interesting, so yes there is an ending. That being said, the scenario takes you new places which are unlocked little by little, some of them being very atmospheric. It can take about 10 hours to complete the game the first time, but there are speed runners who completed it in less than 2.

Ok thanks Drift :)

I'm gonna wait until it's discounted somewhere. Sounds like they could've done a bit more on the port. The only thing that interested me when it was announced was the fact that if your character dies, you start over with a new one and to get the loot you had before you have to kill your old character in zombie mode.

you end up picking up so much health and equipment that you can store that it becomes quite a trivial aspect of it. it still gives you that demon's souls vibe of losing something and having to get it back. but it's a lot less punishing.

There is a comparison video on youtube...there are slight differences however it's Ubisoft...they aren't really a major technological dev so no surprise the difference isn't bigger.

Yet they did do trade offs for the new gameplay and old gameplay since you no longer have the Wii U controller...basically this game needs to have decent sales to get a sequel which may have bigger or noticed tech upgrades.
