PS3

White Knight Chronicles will be released in a bit more than one month in Japan and Sony finally released some new videos actually showing the game. The first one is the excellent TGS trailer of the game, and the second one a long presentation (in Japanese of course) of the multiplayer part of the game.

Animations are smooth for a JRPG, graphics are ok to great, co-op, CG is beautiful, no competition on PS3. Sounds like a winner to me.

Gameplay looks very nice, what I wanted FFXII to be like.

I still cannot wait for it.

Online visuals dip a bit but that doesn't bother me much, other single player vids look very Fable 2-ish in quality. Seems like a lot to customize as well.

EDIT: Online looks very smooth running, gladly take the visual dive for a smooth online experience. Shadows are very nice and smooth surprisingly.

EDIT: Now I am a bit sad, there is an auto-text function like in FFXI. This game will take forever to translate and head over seas. Holiday 09 I bet. :(

The trailer looks good but the gameplay demo is not really impressive.
Combat still looks clumsy and I guess that won’t change anymore. The animation in this online part looks like the animation in every average Korean MMORPG grind fest out there.
And please developers use anisotropic filters… I can see the MIP levels in this game that’s horrible.

The visuals are not on par with any next gen RPG unfortunatly

The combat is very weak too

I thnk the combat looks quite nice, more interesting then other in-time RPG games in my opinion. I fail to see how the gameplay looks "clumsy". It looks a lot like FFXII meets an MMO.

The visuals look nice in single player from what I have seen, no they aren't amazing though. I think they are fairly comparable to Fable 2 though, just without the lighting.

Online looks rather bland visually.

I think people are being overly harsh on it, then again I expect that on a PS3 exclusive.

You should probably play Fable 2 before coming to that silly conclusion

There is no comparisson whatsoever, Fable 2 is one of the most beautifull games i have played with lately, while WKC looks like a dated PC game, reminds me of Daggerfall in some spots, it looks out of this gen completly, everything looks flat and without any detail

In Fable 2 the world is full of small details, real leaves and models on trees, more detail/polygons everywhere, far better lighting etc etc

In fact WKC looks far worst than Infinite Undisocvery, which in turn does not even compare to Fable 2

Generally the best looking RPG's this gen are

Mass Effect
Fable 2
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Lost Odyssey
FF13
FF13vs
Star Ocean 4

And the worst looking

Disgaea 3
Valkyria
White Knight

The rest are somewhere in the middle, like Folklore, IU, Last Remnant etc

shouldn't you in turn play WKC before making any hasty conclusions. its as equally unfair to judge WKC on trailers as you probably think it is to judge Fable 2.

WKC hardly looks like a dated PC game, and have you even played Daggerfall? or are you just trying to whip out an old Elder Scrolls game name thinking nobody here has played anything prior to Morrowind? if you're talking about the Daggerfall i think you're talking about you are so off base its not even worth arguing. and i think even if you found the most hardcore 360 "i hate all things PS3" fanboy, he'd agree you're out of your mind claiming WKC looks anything like Daggerfall.

This message is in "Boulet Time" (TM), If you still *really* want to see it, click here
If i do not judge by videos and pics, how am i supposed to know what the game looks like ???

Anyway, the daggerfall might have been a bit of an exaggeration, but the flat lighting, and strange last gen trees/grass and houses, just make it look very dated, and deros remind me of some crappy looking MMO's or older games, with the flat last gen lighting and detail, flat ground etc

As for comparing it to Fable 2, well, i guess that was a joke anyway, or some PS3 fanboy trying to suggest Fable 2 looks like garbage, which of course is silly

The sound track was quite good. :)

Promising JRPG. Lately there have been a lot of JRPG games out, but unfortunatly none were as interesting as I hoped for. Majority of them is just old stuff...

But there is a hoping for this game and FFXIII

P.S.

I want a remake of FFVIII on Playstation 5 ! (Yes, PS5)

White Knight look nice but a bit dated I think, CGs are incredible but in game/in engine... not surprising. I don´t like at all the main character´s design and face. The online video... reminds me a Dreamcast game visually, and animations... welll...

You clearly haven't played a ton of those, so get out.

This actually looks quiote good, they ahve updated the models, thats for sure,a nd the towns look amazing.

Won't play online, so I don't care about the graphics of that.

And the battle system looks totally alien, so I can't judge it yet.

Why does the first list only include 360 games (minus 1 technically) and the 2nd only point out PS3? what about spectral force 3? Two Worlds? Phantasy Star Universe? Blue Dragon (to an extent) enchant arms? the first two i mentioned are by far the WORST looking RPGs to hit this gen... makes disgaea look like its current (not really... but they are just really...REALLY bad looking).

first, i don't know why Disgaea is even in that list in comparison to the other RPG's due to the fact that even in the PS2 life cycle it had "dated" visuals from other ventures such as "namco X capcom" or even odin sphere...

Valkyria chronicles is one of the best looking games graphically when it comes to that type of style... beats out Tales and Eternal Sonota by far... and i own ES for PS3 and Tales for 360.

I don't know about the whole thing you're going on about fable... must be because i'm not running it through HDMI put it looks like fable 1 with overblown processing effects and filters... graphically RPG-wise I was underwhelmed cause things look so blurry on my T.V for whatever reason... yet Gears 2 and fallout 3 look excellent running it through component on my 360.

So much for that TGS movie from awhile ago...they made it seem like it was gameplay but it was CGI all along, this looks very dissapointing , to say the least. Absolutely nothing special..which is a shame..since it's Level 5...sorry but i was expecting quite a bit more from them.

- Yeah, the chances are pretty slim... :(

But THAT WOULD ROCK!!! FFVIII is still my favourite RPG. I mean the story was mind blowing for me and damn it have a really interesting world and likable characters.

The characters in White Knight look nothing like in that old PSone game...

It's not like the FFXI auto-text thing. That's the regular japanese way of writing. Choose the letters and the pick a kanji for them. The player must be using a keyboard, because there is no on-screen keyboard present.

Personally I found Fable 2 to be downright ugly much of the time. The characters are butt ugly and the texturing is crude and looks unfinished most of the time. Plus the interior lighting is awful, the frame rate tears all over the place, and the characters seem to float about with little connection to the ground. It's something of a cliche to say it, but to me it looked little better than Fable 1 running in 720p with a ridiculous amount of bloom over the top of it.

The best looking RPG this gen in my opinion is Eternal Sonata, although that has plenty of issues with character animation. FF13 will I expect be the one that finally delivers in full.

It is rather strange that the first huge JRPG on PS3, is among the worst looking this generatrion and with so mediocre and slow/akward combat

Sony should have delayed it another year i suppose, than deliver such a subpar experience (excluding the FMV)
