Definitely. It really highlights the Heat moves well, too, giving you a taste of what this game is kinda about at its core. Flipping mental brawler violence. :)

I think there's a great japanese trailer buried here at GSY too, I'll see if I can dig it up.

EDIT: Nope, it's not on here, I'll see if I can find it elsewhere. It has more beats to it, kinda going through the crazyness of the brawler stuff, the poignancy of the story, and the nuttyness of the distractions and kareoke and things like that. It's 4 minutes and some change, but it's a great trailer.

Pre-ordered this baby, can't wait. While the Japanese are prepared to enjoy the sequel we get this 1 year later. But at least it got finally released that's all that matters with cut contents or not. This game won't disappoint me.

PLayr really did not like this game lol they said it was one of the most boring games in the next gen era and that the game was too last gen with invisible walls and poor combat

Then again there are like 20+ reviews on metacritic praising it. If you aren't a fan of the series, chances are this game might seem odd and granted how most people seem to think that anything that does not include ripping monsters to shreds while wearing a loincloth or shooting "terrorists" is boring i can also understand how Yakuza might come off as something undesirable. If you are open to something different though, i think it's a good game.

every time a game gets a bad review based on invisible walls and last gen elements, it's probably a good game.

i've been playing this today for a few hours and it has been quite tedious so far. reminding me a lot of FFX, where you litterally walk 5ft only for yet another cutscene/voiceless conversation to kick in. i enjoy the fighting but then i did in the first game too. but as for eveything else i can kinda see where plyr where coming from in their review. it is very dated feeling, and playing the demo of 4 doesnt exactly improve things. sure it has slightly better faces, cool rain effects and real analog stick control for movement. but it still feels quite old. but then i think this is a "problem" that plagues a lot of japanese games...they have a very dated way of making games/incorporation narrative and animating characters...yakuza is no different. still relatively enjoyable tho non the less.

Yakuza has shit animations. I don't know what two-bit animator makes them but i could and have, actually, made better walk cycles than the ones you see in that game (the kids walk cycle is especially ridiculous. Who swings their arms like that!?). The game is not flawless, but the story is good and the combat works. Also, not all games are $50, 000, 000 projects. I'm willing to overlook the flaws this game has because the things it does well it does really well. As for it being boring...The game is quite slow to kick off, i'm like 15 hours in (though i haven't been rushing) and only now does it feel like the story is starting to get up to speed.

Hype? On this forum there are 3 users that are fans of this series, hardly what i'd call a massive hype. Can't imagine that the skew is much different in general :P

Well i go on other forums ;)

The main problem was the demo which just sucked. Im willing to give it a try because people over at Shenmuedojo says its a lot like Shenmue which is my fav game of all time.

shhhhh...don't mention Shenmue!

This has been getting it's fare share of mixed reviews.. i think Egde were particually harsh on it..and they're usually on the money. I don't know if it's one of those games that needs time to breath (like all ps3 exclusives), or it's peoples lack of interest but it's not exactly been lighting up the charts in it's first week sales...which is never a good sign for the 4th hitting, as i think the only reason why we've this one offered to us was because the fanbase demanded it.

If you know what Yakuza is all about i think the demo did a good job of showing the new stuff. If you, however, haven't played any of the earlier games i guess it probably doesn't do much to draw you in either. But the demo shows the most important elements aside from the story, which is more or less impossible to demo in any good way. I don't think the demo was terrible, it's just a very hard game to demo since it's so reliant on the story buildup over the course of the 30+ hours game. It's not something you can easily cut down to a 20-minute demo.

Also it's not a lot like Shenmue. It has a few minigames, but other than that i think the similarities are fairly small. People seem to think that Yakuza 3 is not a brawler for some reason. Sure it has small RPG elements, but let's face it; in the end Yakuza is a very story-heavy brawler. Almost all the side quests get resolved by you punching some punk out and he main game is basically a mix of cutscenes and fighting.
