DjMizuhara reminds us that jet lag with Japan can be a year long when it comes to some Sega games. Indeed, while Yakuza 3 has just been released in North America and Europe, Yakuza 4 shipped in Japan today and, thanks to our first class DJ, here are two exclusive videos from the game. Rest assured that more will come in the following days.

The graphics are great, it just doesn't seem to have advanced beyond the PS2 games in any other areas.

i read somewhere else that underneath the "next-gen" graphics is still a "PS2" engine. and i quote...

"Now On PS2 – A Yakuza game is released roughly every twelve months in Japan. Want to know how they get them out so fast? It's because these games, despite in some places looking new, are in fact relatively ancient. The animation, collision detection and textures in many areas of the game are of PS2 standards, which wouldn't be as big a problem were the principal characters not so lovingly detailed. This results in jarring moments where a contemporary Kiryu runs into a bystander that looks like he fell out of 2002."

Yeah but ironically it does improve, especially how they are able to make storylines this fulfilling. Quite amazing actually.

Wouldn't it be Pro Evolution Soccer than? Considering FIFA isn't (wasn't?) big in Japan.

Anyhow, Yakuza games don't rely on graphics.

I think the demo of Yakuza 4 shows some improvement over 3. Especially some better animation and better faces on the main characters. Other than that though, it look pretty much the same, and loads of NPCs and i think all of Kamurocho is recycled. But you know what? I don't really mind :P

Probably they have taken something from PS2 game and some flat textures but they have added lot of detail and filters. The city looks colorful, lively. It looks good.

4 playable characters in this one I guess. Since they are going to release Yakuza5 too. Hope 4 and 5 will come in 1 disc for the english version :p

"next-gen".. i swear everyone who uses that term this is there first ever wave of games console and usualy say "bring us shenmue 3" to just look "cool"..

Its current Gen and has been for hmm what? 5 years?

Current gen (PS3 etc)
Last gen (ps2 etc)
Retro (ps1 and beyond)

It is pretty simple, I would of thought it would be simple enough for the "gametrailers" generation of gamers.. but obviously not.
