The crappy english voices pushed them over the edge in addition to the games other issues.

Yeah, the game was pretty crappy. Funny how I they basically agree with me.

"I would give this game's gameplay a 7, graphics a 7, and sound a 6"--LEBATO

And when thought out, I can see how the game got a 6 for gameplay.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday but didn't want to comment on it. I'm sort of inclined to pull out now, as my hopes for the retail version was different enemies, more interesting level designs and a greater exploitation of the orb system - the one real Mizu-esque thing the game has going for it.

Jeff implies it does none of that, and if the full game is just the demo multiplied by 7, I'm really not that interested anymore.

Such a damn shame, I thought for sure this had a better shot at being good than Dead Rising, but I guess it's true that when one door closes another one opens.

Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires got 7.1 on gamespot though, so I might actually divert my attention to that for my combo-y mass mashing fix.

I wouldn't take this so seriously if it wasn't Gamespot, and specifically Jeff who thinks so. Jeff Gerstmann and Greg Kasavin at Gamespot are two of my most respected reviewers, even though they have the occasional fit I don't agree with.

Yes, Greg is a great reviewer. I don't know about Jeff as he gave Tony Hawk 3 a 10, and many other reviews I totally disagree with.

Yeah, Jeff is a bit of a loose cannon, but he's got a great understanding of game mechanics and what's actually enjoyable. I can usually read his reviews and understand what a game is like, and I trust his intuition, so even if he does tend to get a bit carried away and enthusiastic about games that push his buttons, he rarely scores what's essentially a good game poorly.

Greg is a fucking rock though. :)

I might still buy it just because I was so convinced I'd like it, and although Mizu's input was minimal I do wish to play everything he's involved with.. We'll see.

Exactly I'm no longer interested in the game and its not just simply because of the review, but its merely the fact that the negatives destroy the experience.

Remember what I said about a game having issues that can't be overlooked and detract from the overall experience and then there is a game that has issues that can easily be overlooked because the positives are just so good?

N3 is one of those games where the negatives destroy the experience and I'm not one for games that are mindless in their execution. I'm pretty sure the language barrier and their stupid decision to try to appeal to more than just the japanese market ended up being the death of this title. They got lazy they decided lets just throw thousands of enemies on screen at different positions and our job is done. What Heavenly Sword has done with a lesser number of enemies is far more impressive and I swear if Too Human (cause he says final game will have hundreds of enemies) falls into the same trap and it becomes all about showing off enemy numbers then I'll want nothing to do with it.

And I don't know how you didn't notice that when playing the demo. I guess hype is to blame. And I agree that a game can still be good when the pros outweight the cons, and a perfect example would be dead rising--at least to me it fits perfectly.

I think we can all agree in that the biggest pro a game needs to get right is gameplay. To me, the demo was enough to decide the game's gameplay was broken. So with a broken gameplay, one would hope the game has amazing graphics and sound, along with some relatively lenghtly campaign with some replay value, and somehow, N3 manages to fail at ALL of these.

The game never convinced me with videos, there was a point when I thought, "this is looking fun", but seeing as how all the videos looked the same, things started to look grim for this game.

I haven't seen enough of HS to judge, but so far it's looking good. And about Too Human; he said there would be hundreds of enemies on-screen and I can't believe just yet. He [Denis] has that on paper, but he still doesn't know how it'll work on practice. An action game doesn't need hundreths of enemies on screen though, so if that doesn't make it, as long as the gameplay is good, it shouldn't be a problem. That game, as of E3 was a mess, but then the game is not releasing any time soon and Silicon Knights games have been very well polished so far, so I don't see why it should be any differet for Too Human--at least in terms of polish.

I didn't expected the game to have really great reviews, but Im still buying. If a game appeals to me (Like N3), no matter how the game is flawed I usually enjoy playing it. :)

Ok, I'll admitt I was way wrong. My apologies. Though I dont know how N3 could do so much worse then DW. Even in gameplay mechanics. DW only has like 4 combos for each character. If only they made N3 more like KUF. I really loved KUF it was really great.

It's not a "good review" when a good game that you dislike gets a bad score, and likewise it isn't when a bad game that you like gets a good score. I think it's fairly obvious by now with an underwhelming average score of 6.8 that the game has let a fair few people down.

I know what a good review mean. Hell, I hate GTA SA so much yet I never said it didnt deserve all the praise. What I wanted to say is the quality of the reviews lately have been so crappy especially if you compare it to websites like www.eurogamer.net . when a game gets a bad score, it usually is well justified within the text of the review unlike what I read on the gamespot review. In fact, I think what you said here : "It's not a "good review" when a good game that you dislike gets a bad score" applies to the person who reviewed the game more than it does to me. ;)

I never thought it'd get scores that low. Can't say it didn't deserve it, but I would've given it a 6. Anyone ever notice how they review low scoring games sooner or before release, but better games on release day or even after?

alimokrane: The game has an average (every site taken into account, not just gamespot) of 6.8. Explain to me how that makes Jeff a person who dislikes a good game. I suppose you could claim it's really brilliant, but EVERYONE dislikes it, but that's not a terribly water proof argument.

Phaethon; Actually, the way the gamespot review score system works it's pretty difficult to score it a clean 6.0, but 5.9 is like 0.1 away, so that's pretty much right on the (your) money then. :)

The Score doesn't surprise me, if the truth be told the gameplay is distinctively last-gen, possibly last-last-gen. I wish they stop making games like this, unless they can make it fun - like Dead Rising

something other than , press x,x,x,x,x followed by x .
enemys that are a little more challenging, rather than the enemy standing around taking no notice of you,
better save points, good voice acting, some kind of believable story....i could go on ;)

no matter how much you polish a turd, its still a turd at the end of the day...no?

Some people don't agree with that, and it's for them that these games exist.

I'm one of those, really. I think the rush of simply kicking insane amounts of ass(es?) is infinitely satisfying and rewarding, but at the same time there are games of this type that are well put together and others that aren't.

There's no requirement for "next gen" games to be complicated without exception. There are genres of games that are totally timeless, and they should get their due of HD graphics love just as well as any other done-to-death category of games. First person shooters for instance.

Yeah! I do see your point. As you say, some people do enjoy these type of games, but I feel that the developers just use this to hide away from trying something different!
If the gameplay is basic or been done to death, at least add some strategy or something original, otherwise it is just being lazy.

As far as I can tell from the demo, the game involves also pressing xxyy then x or LT then X or Y (LOL :)) so if your only way of thinking about the game is pressing xxxxxxxx without any startegy within your head then this game is probably not your kind of game that's all.
