Also, there appears to be a problem with the Sega stick "Virtua Stick High Grade".
All shipments are being recalled from retailers. Apparently sometimes input doesn't register.

Thats the 1st day sales numbers, if it had been on 360 and 37% sales in Japan, you (Hasan) wouldn't have a problem with it, infact you would be thinking up excuses as to why it did so poorly.

37% is not poor by any means.

I'm expecting probably it to be around 50-60k. Doesn't really matter, the game will turn a profit once its released to the west and on the 360. The Japanese have been playing the game in the arcades for over a year now, so its not like its a brand new never before played game. I'm trying to spin it here :P

Still, I have a strong feeling my SB vacation will be spent taking a trip on over to Mr. Japan for some Q & A. They thought Godzilla terrorized the town, O No! That will be a walk in the park from the Hulk Fury I will bring. I stood by when they shunned Zelda, cursed BD, and now shamed VF. No sir. 3 Strikes

Given the install base and the fact that it's first day sales (unconfirmed first day sales no less) you can hardly argue that it's bombed.

There's an absolute dearth of quality software on the PS3 in Japan right now, I expect it to do comparatively well just on that basis.

The problem for Sony is that it will likely disappear off the charts completely the week after.

bombed because this was the first litmus test of acceptance of PS3 in Japan. It sold around the same as Blue Dragon did on 360 where 360 had LESS install base than PS3 has right now

It's still only one day... !!!!

It's not a test at all, because, the PS3's have already been sold and paid for and gamers are waiting for something decent to come out and not everyone is going to like 3D fighters. (so the true test is that the PS3 is still selling in Japan)

Blue Dragon is a JRPG which is probably likely to sell better than a fighter anyway.

They way i see it is that BD is a must have titles.

VF5 is a must have title only because there is nothing else around.

Software adoption is really bad on the PS3 right now, but with DMC4, MGS4 and RE5 there will be no stopping it.

Not to mention FF13 and WKS

not really, show me where VF5 was ranked in Famitsu's Most Wanted, then you would have a point, where BD was like 2nd-3rd BTW. Gundam Musou will sell more than this game. I love my VF, but its true. VF is still a more successful arcade game than it is console game. Come back and try this mess when FF13 or MGS4 hits.

You really have no idea what you're talking about, so just stop trying. Go back to predicting your 200 gig satellite 360 with Wifi and coffee maker, or w/e you were talking about.

37% is not poor by any means.

37% of what? The PS3 has over 600k units in Japan, so 32,000 VF5 units is about 5%.

First day sales don't mean a whole lot--first week would be more telling. But that said, it has been claimed VF5 is a big franchise as well as the first high quality Japanese title at all so you would hope for huge numbers. But the wild card: Arcades are big in Japan, so those will dent sales some too. i.e. Not much of an immediate compelling buy. Why buy a PS3 and game when you can drop $15 a week at the arcades?

and to add something to what Acert said, it sold to around 5% of the current userbase. Around when VF4 hit, it sold around 300k(first week) if i remember correctly, which was about 5% of the userbase at the time on the PS2, which was around 6-7mill. I'll look up the numbers, so don't hold me on that just yet :P

here we go PS2 userbase was around 7,020,883 by the time VF4 was released, and it sold around 350k its first week. PS3 UB is around 613,000 and VF5 is probably on track to sell around 50k for the first week, but so far an unconfirmed 34k for the first day. Yeah, do the math. Still kind of unexpected, yes, but not the OMG PS3 IS DOOMED, like the TC was trying to imply.

@Jolli VF series is real big in japan. Bigger then tekken, doa, and most other fighters put together at the same time.

Thats true, but yet its still not the most played arcade game, mainly due to Sega's stupid business moves. They only rent it the venues, so there are less cabinets nationwide since arcade owners won't even bother since its rent only. The most played arcade game is like Gundam Seed Destiny.

Not to mention that it's totally unavailable in arcades outside of Japan, well I think that is still true

You should take into account that people who buy consoles first are usually hardcore gamers and over time the ratio of how many copies of a single game is sold to the console install base goes down.

Take for example gears of war and how many 360 there are (10M). Gears ratio of people buying it and how many consoles out there is amazing but I bet it would be a lot less if there were around 60 milion 360s. And that's all im trying to point out.

But there are many other factors too. Like you said they have many arcade cabinents and there are other things aswell.

Like I said it's not bad numbers nor is it good.

Well in 360s case, the tie in ratio is pretty big, that was never the case with the PS2 im afraid, and looks like PS3 as well. You can compare the PS3 software sales with hardware sales in Japan, they aren't as stellar as the 360s.

Like with BD and DOA4, both sold around 110k and 150k in Japan, to a userbase of around 300k. Yeah, PS3 titles don't have the same luxury. I honestly don't know wtf they are doing with them, since the software sales never match up with the hardware sales really, well not like the 360s.

Well I wasn't the one who quoted 37% was I ?

And VF5 isn't that main stream (well in the Arcade it is), its sucessful on console but hardly a killer app and the Japanese have already been playing this game in the Arcades for over a year.

So it's hardly the killer title people are claiming it to be.
