I didn't see this posted so thought I would share. Eurogamer appeared to have gotten an exclusive preview of Fable III though I think it was written before the annoucement (it went up litterally at the curtain was drawn back. As such, it has some nice detail about the art direction but the story parts and comments about being the ruler of Albion are quite vague;-

"We've moved it forward. Think of the monsters: industrialisation has pushed the fairytale creatures underground, and to the edges of the forests. You'll go there, and they're still around, but they're not happy about it this time. Albion's still full of mystery and wonder, but it's more aggressive: the ancient creatures don't like to be shoved away."

The shift in period is not just an aesthetic choice, then: the landscape is telling a story, and the story itself is typically rooted in the series' fascinations with choices and morality. "There's some mad stuff coming in," laughs McCormack, unwittingly sketching designs in the air with his hand. "One of the main themes here is how the advancement of the new world is having an adverse effect on the beautiful lush environments of Albion. Industrialisation is changing Albion, and do you want to put a stop to that?"
For what it's worth, I didn't quite agree with the end. The influence of Black & White is clear to me and Molyneux's talk on Wednesday reminded me of it even more. (I blogged about it, "Fable III continues to colour in Black & White" so feel free to tell me I'm full of it :D ) but I see elements of the two games becoming even more intertwined. On the other hand, I've never played Little King's Story either so not much I can say. Has anyone else?

I still have Fable 2 in my backlog, I'll play it one day. The preview of Fable 3 sounds interesting, just like every Lionhead game though. I remember being really hyped for B&W, but novelty of that game worn off quickly.

Black & White was the first game I'd bought in a couple of years at the time. Remember queuing up for it in GAME and everything :)

I love the games to death for about 10 days, then I never want to touch them again. One of those series that I'm excited for but ultimately I should probably rent.

Bah, I'm not too excited. Fable 2 was a complete disappointment as far as I'm concerned. The first Fable, in my opinion, was a much better game.

Well the combat and will systems certainly were better in Fable1. But Lionhead can get it all back by focusing more on combat and loot than refining it's real estate and ridiculous renown system.

Black and White was one of those games thats really fun for like 10 minutes, then you get depressingly bored with it (Or I did at least).

If they make a Fable 3 it has to be completely original for me to have any interest in it. Fable 2 was pretty much just Fable 1 with better graphics and a different story. Not that it was a bad game, just seems like now days most sequels are more like addons or expansions rather than entirely new games.

Since Peter is in love with his real estate/hero-landlord system (which means it's not going to change) I think it would work better if in Fable3 you could conquer/liberate/persuade (depending on your goodness or evil) the regions of Albion and THEN build the houses, mansions, homesteads and castles for the citizens to rent or purchase. After you've conquered/liberated/persuaded enough towns in a certain region, that region would fall under your control. The people would be FORCED to accept your rule or WELCOME your leadership.

But more than anything else the game has to return to a combat for loot system, legendary weapons should actually be legendary and will needs serious refining.

The owning of stuff needs to be justified in some way. You can own every goddamn house in Albion and be king to boot but it hardly changes the game at all. You'll still have the same weapons, armor and items and NPCs are still the same knob heads. It's there only because it is, and that sucks and makes it feel hollow and boring.

yeah, there needs to be some kinda incentive to buying property and owning houses and all that. It was just something I never did in either game because there was no real point. My roomate finished the game and bought like every property, married a bunch of women, had millions of dollars and kids, when he finally said...."Now what?"

Theres really no ultimate goal to reach by doing any of those things. Like "Buy houses, get married, raise families, own stores, decorate your home, buy furniture, etc." and people are like "sweet!" but then you think about it like...wait, thats doesnt sound fun lol. That sounds like chores! Maybe in Fabl3 you'll have to pick up your dogs poop, fill out your taxes, and set your alarm clock so you dont oversleep thru work.

First off all; Peter Molyneux.
He seems like a really nice guy and enjoy listening to his ideas/concepts for his games. Now I know he's a bit a talker and more then often promises to much when it comes to his upcoming games. Peter was absolutely raving about Fable 2's "special feature" which turned out to be the dog....
I absolutely loved the idea and was genuinely excited after him explaining that the dog was supposed to be; the best AI he has ever written. (It was supposed to be smarter than his Black and White 2 creatures).
He also said that the players would really get emotionally attached to the dog. He then explained some of the behaviour the dog would show; The dog will run around and scout out treasures, warn for bandits and fight with you in combat. He also will have "different barks" depending on the situation. At the beginning an icon will show over his head and will explain what the dog wants.
After a while the icon wouldn't show up any more and the player would be able to recognize what the dog wants when he gives a certain bark. I found these idea's amazing and was really excited to see these in action... But how did these things turn out?

Well as you guys know already; One big F'ing disappointment. Yes the dog did most of the things that were promised, but did I get emotionally involved? No I couldn't care less if that dog was there. He helps you find "treasures", these being some stupid potions or some gold (of which I have more then enough, thanks to the brain-numbing mini-games)

But some people did get attached to the dog, which is the point. It's impossible to achieve what he was going for with everyone. There are plenty of gamers who will play a game with an amazing story and skip every cutscene impatiently. Does this mean the story in that game failed? No. It's the same with things like this.

People getting attached to that dog would get attached to just about anything. A dead fly on the window sill would suffice. The game does absolutely NOTHING to give the dog character, make it special or lovable. It just points you toward buried contraceptives and dies a lot. Except for that very brief moment at the end it doesn't even have any bearing on the story.

Again, that's your opinion. I'm not suggesting that it couldn't have been improved upon but Molyneux got enough hate mail about it to reverse engineer into the DLC a way of bringing it back.

That's because people are stupid. Most people shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I mean, the only reason i can see as to why you'd feel affection toward that pile of polygons is...stupidity. I honestly hope that anyone that raised any sort of feeling other than hate towards the mutt never come in contact with a japanese dating sim, cause they'll never come out of their rooms ever again. And their computers will be filled with wank.

And what is this about brining the dog back? It's very simple, if you didn't pick the dog at the en you bloody well don't get the dog back later. Peter is a goddamn pussy, it's all about choices this and that but then in the end 5 retarded fans cried when they could not be the bulging hero, the sopping dog lover and the millionaire at once and what ho? A patch to fix it! Fable just goes lower and lower on my radar. Eliminating core game features with DLC, that's just great.

Fable 3....

Right how to make a fable game

Get the Oblivion/fallout engine (hell rage would be nice) paint it in the form of Fables universe and have done with it
When i played Fallout 3 all i could think of was Fable 2 SHOULD of been like this (no not a post nuculear war that is not what i mean for those sarcastic litaral bastards on here) it should have that huge openess to it to just let you wonder around, not stick you down shitty little pathways.

Dunno was kinda let down by the first 2, i loved the art but the world was to small and linear the game was screaming to be let out of its box i did not have my hopes high for the second one and was still slightly gutted, my hopes for the 3rd are near on 0

LOL! Megido that was truly negative. The dog wasn't the problem. In fact once the dog was a 5 Star treasure hunter he located diamonds, high XP potions, five star dyes, augments and gold bags in the 1000-2000 range. So the dog did have some uses if you invested in the books and back tracked over previously visited locations. The investment in the fighting books was a waste IMO as the dog doesn't actually fight with anyone, but rather goes after fallen foes.

The problem remains with the game's central functions. Are you a warrior or are you a glorified landlord? Are you a Hero or a Realtor? Peter and his team at Lionhead couldn't seem to make up their minds what you were supposed to be. But Fable 3 can redeem the franchise with some smart changes.

Dont get me wrong i did fully enjoy it, but i just felt it was been held back massivly, little things like "why cant i move the fucking furinture" or use my own j-pegs for wallpaper"
a friend of mine is actually working on it and worked on the second one, he was the one who informed me about 2 yesr before release that the CoOp was absolute shit (after that original trailer showing CoOp in the CGI traieler..well hinting at it.

Lets just hope he actually does recomend some of my ideas to make it a more enjoyable game... but i doubt it lol.
