Yeah definitely. Although I still remain hopeful that Ezio's personal motivation is just that, and that the backdrop is still used to convey something else in addition. And hopefully without undoing its entire message in the end.

With a game with this level of hype and anticipation you kinda have to be speaking on many levels simultaniously to different groups of your audience. A mainstream hit communicates different things to different people, and cringeworthy as it may be, a period James Bond is probably exactly the right way of conveying part of the game to people who find that appealing. Hopefully there's more to it when you scratch the surface.

I remember when the producer spoke to GSY about it and he seemed very passionate about history generally and about people through history specifically. He might've given up on those grand ideas of his and this might just be Ninja Gaiden, but I reckon there's a possibility still - and a degree of likelihood - that it's once more placed in a specific time for more reasons than its sci fi overlay.

i really dont think this game is particularly hyped. to me it's just going to either confirm the series as a failure (after the dissapointing first game) or it's going to turn the series around and make it worthwhile (which will make the 3rd game a hyped title) as of now there is very little excitement surrounding this game based on the forums i go on. and it's not really surprising, the first game was pretty bad as far as the promis/delivery ratio goes. i think it's turned a lot of people away from the series. if it wasnt for the story (which most people seemed to have missed) i wouldnt even bother with the sequel tbh.

Well, AC sold like a goombajillion koopazillion copies and recieved pretty awesome scores, so I'm kinda just assuming this is hyped. I have the worst feel for that kind of stuff of anyone ever probably. I mean in the runup to its release Halo 3 was hard to miss unless you bent backwards and stared up your own arse (though I'm sure some people would find traces of it there too, what with all the teabagging) but apart from that I keep hearing words like "overrated" and "didn't live up to the hype" constantly that baffle me completely.

I mean take for instance Killzone 2.. sure there was that trailer and people were doing their usual being people with a pinch of idiot chucked in on forums, and I'm sure a lot of people hoped it would be good and a lot of people couldn't sleep, fearing nightmarish dream encounters with a KZ2 that actually WAS good and hopelessly developed for a platform most waking hours are spent hating. Despite ALL of that, when KZ2 actually came out it was just a game - a pretty good one at that - and I couldn't tell you if the hype train had crashed or turned into a large batch of doves and transcended this plane into heaven. Dove heaven. I just don't have a handle on that stuff.

I prolly should just point out that AC2 is Ubi's most expensive title and that they clearly have a lot riding on it (riding on italian Q made wooden contraptions as it were) and that the videogame community, and plural thereof, seems to be paying attention. Although the brand of attention differs - some cheap knockoffs and some officially licensed, overpriced ones.

Alimo I know how much I should get excited for this game, its Ubisoft, 3 titles they have failed me with, one of them turned out the best out of 3, and thats AC1.
With AC2, they are keeping the same free world exploration, the good "waiting game" combat and some to add with it.

But in terms of mission structure is the only one that is bothering me.
I am obviously very excited to play it because i love the universe of the game and I want to jump bback in and experience it more, but I am not expecting much in the missions.

AC1 would be a great game if we didn't have to do the same stuff over and over again. If they made some varied missions and dropped eavesdropping/pickpocketing bullshit, it should be a product I could sink long hours into.

Does anyone know if the original AC was region-free or not?

I'm really liking the AC2: Black Edition (featured in the trailer), however it is (as of right now) to the best of my knowledge, apparently not being sold in North America.

North American AC fans got shafted royally on the special edition for the original. The Euros and Asians got a gloriously awesome 12" figurine of Altair in their special ed, all we got as a crummy 3" version with a lousy "making of" DVD.

I was willing to pay top dollar for the AC1 special ed, but Ubisoft decided to forsaken it's North American customers. Not again if I can help it. If there is any chance that AC2 is region-free, than I am importing the black edition. If not, then screw Ubisoft, I'll just get AC2 standard edition . . . pre-owned.

So I am hoping that AC1 was region-free, as that may be an indicator that AC2 may have a good chance of being region-free as well.

Some spoilers of the story is in there.

Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0azTwMTH5s
Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ipOk7sGgFY
Part 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE3ZuO1xt6c

-You can steal money from people and dead bodies
-You can blend in with whoever, not just monks anymore
-Linear sections with PoP-style platforming
-No more GPS
-New weapon/item select menu, Resistance:FOM-style
-You can hire mercenaries to work for you
-Store/salesmen you can spend your "hard-earned" cash on

Much better stuff, more variety in gameplay, new mechanics, really great stuff they added.
Hopefully the game as a whole delivers!

UbiSoft just released this amazing live action short

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqGk33RAZA8

"This is the first in a series of short movies that are being developed by Hybride Technologies, the visual effects studio behind 300 and Sin City, which Ubisoft bought last year for just this sort of project."

There seems to be a Assassins Creed 2 demonstration in MediaMarkt which is a new electronic store, here in Sweden.
Good thing is that its tomorrow and its in Gothenburg where I live. Now I don't know if you can actually play the game or not or its some sort of a demo being played by someone else.

Its a long trip so I dont know if its worth it or not.
If I can play it, then sure, but me watching it when someone else is playing then no.

Just came home from playing AC2 for like 10 minutes, very nice.
I didnt expect much but the combat and all that was exactly like AC1 obviously, I wish I had more time to play just to do some countering to steal enemy weapons and use it against them.

The first thing in my mind was to jump in a water and start swimming, finally Ubisoft! :P

Anyways, I got a free AC2 swag poster from them as well :)
http://img.neoseeker.com/ca/assassins_creed_2_conc... thats the one, with obviously some small logos and AC2 on it.

LOL but it was expected to be like the first,I dont take that as a bad thing,if they put some variety in there it will be so much better than the first.

Sath the controls are fluid? how's the framerate? any tearing in what you played?

Thanks for the impressions though.

No screen tearing, the combat was tight as well, it was pretty much like AC2+ really.

I asked the guy how old the demo was, and he said it was the preview built, TGS version.

I havent played AC1 since last year so I totally forgot most of the controls such as counter attack, weapon switch, auto lock on...etc. so I couldnt fully use my skills from AC1, but it took me like 2-3 minutes, but still not good enough because I barely got hit in AC1.

Ah well, it sure got me hyped for the game a bit, I was even listening to the OST while playing :P

So lets wait for some good trusted reviews before we buy it,like for example GT or something?

I for one I need proof that its not the same missions over and over,I know the devs said that all that was scrapped for a new missions structure but Im not too sure about it I need someone who finished the game.

Thats the only thing Im worried as for the rest I love everything about it.

At this point, I expect AC2 to be a really great game. The only one aspect I am not excited about is the shop system, but since you can pick weapons from enemies it won't be bothersome, just like in GTA. I won't buy the game in November as I don't have time now, but most likely for Christmas. What finally convinced me is that you can play the game with Italian voiceover, it really gives you that sense of adventure, like playing Shenmue 2 in Japanese (although that one should be in English/Chinese :P).
