Hey, I'm just like you. I put my pants on one leg at a - dammit, I knew I forgot something today.
But lets face it. If it wasn't EA it would be Activision, and if not Activision than Microsoft or Ubisoft, etc. Post release support is dead, it's gone, it's a thing of the past. So long as people continue to say that "$10 is the price of a movie", or "$10 is the price of a cheeseburger", etc.. the consumer has lost.. to itself.
We can only hope that strong indies continue to fight for what is right. Some developers know that post release support extends the life span of their product, which in turn can actually extend its life at retail as well. But those arguments are hard to hear over all of the excitement surrounding 1 million+ downloads of the Halo 3 Heroic map pack--which will soon be free, but the community decided to donate an extra $10 mil to MS and bungie anyhow.
I wonder how many of them own a $130 toy helmet.

for fuck sake, this is just too...fucking silly.
ok, i don't mind paying for CoD4 maps, for an early beta is already stretching it a bit but heck, i really want to have an early peek at the game, but fuck, paying for weapons?!??!?!?!
Next, pay for the textures? Or for high resolution models?
Like, whatever...
Thank publishers, consumers, and Microsoft.

At end of day the weapons are in the game to unlock its just defeats purpose of the game totally stupid.
I wonder if there will ever be games that charge your credit card 50 cents per continue.

Before you panic: five will be free. Five retailers offer an “exclusive” pre-order weapon in the months to come. Each of those weapons will become available at launch for free.
Another five, however, will not.
These five will be exclusively bundled with a to-be-announced “Gold Edition” of “Battlefield Bad Company.” Think of “Gold Edition” as another term for the many “Limited Edition” versions of games we’ve seen recently. These weapons are readily unlocked for gamers who purchase the Gold Edition, but everyone else will need to pay.
No prices for any of the purchasable weapons are listed in the beta.
EA told us the pay-to-play weapons will not unbalance the game. “All weapons are balanced for gameplay,” said a spokesperson in an e-mailed statement. “More weapons offer players more choices but do not create an advantage/disadvantage for players who do not opt to buy new item.”
The company refers to weapons already in the box as “core weapons.”
Good idea? Absolutely not but I think most consumers would actually baulk at the idea of paying for weapons in a game. This isn't quite what's happening here. EA are just leveraging another channel to flog the "limited" edition of the game. Depending on what else they put in the "Gold" edition (and going by NFS, it won't be a lot) then if you buy that version, you're essentially doing the same thing and paying for the extra weapons.
As much as I'm not in the hate EA camp, they are the only publisher doing this malarkey with special editions of games which really do not warrant one.

Sad, aint it?
To think that in only a few years we went from buying $50 games with the occasional free downloadable content to paying $60 per game and then getting nickel and dimed on top of that.
No thanks. R0ok is right, there are plenty of other shooters.

This industry is treating its consumers like shit in recent years frankly. Simply not buying premium DLC is a start, but it's probably not enough.
But what do I know, I do silly pointless things.. like vote.

oh, and by the way when today are the servers going to be live, for the beta?

a) the limited edition (Gold) version of the game
b) the weapon unlocks from Live.
These are both exactly the same thing. Holding back guns or cars from the regular edition for a "special" edition isn't on. By purchasing (or not) the normal edition you're still sending the message that this malarkey isn't on. If the limited SKU does poorly, EA will think twice about producing them in the future.
