Xbox 360 patch is finally out. Added a lot of cool things such as kill cams for nades, air strikes, RPG's and claymores. Also better hit detection, host migration, quick mute and veto on more than one map. I think there are some other things but I can't remember. Good improvement on an already great game. Now I'm just looking forward to those three new maps.

^^ yaaaaaay :D:D:D

heres what infinity ward released

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Kill Cams

We’ve added new Kill Cams for everything. So now those “WTF!” grenades that seemingly come from no where, you can see that a guy threw it over the house, it hit a tree branch, bounced off a rock, into a tiny window, where you happened to be pointing out of, and say…… whoa. Follow behind RPGs and M203’s kill cams, claymores, Airstrikes where you can follow the bomb from the plane until it hits you.

Host Migration

Now you won’t have to be dropped back by yourself when a host leaves. Instead, everyone will stay together, a new host will be assigned, and the game will auto-start back up. Keeping everyone together, no more re-inviting, re-joining games because some host leaves. This has been a tall order and something that we’ve put a lot of work into which has allowed us to really optimize online play all around not just specifically with Host migration.

Improved Sniper / ACOG Accuracy

Sniper and ACOG scopes have been tweaked and are really improved. I use to not snipe at all (mainly because I’m a horrible sniper), but now it’s so much more fluid and natural, while still having the same difficulty to use, it has no more “WTF I know I hit that guy!” moments.

Upgraded Spectator Cam

Now when you’re in spectator mode you can follow them in 3rd person, switch to their first person view, or rotate the camera in a full 360 degrees around whoever you’re watching.

Quick Mute Option

Users will now be able to quick mute players on the fly by pulling up the scoreboard in-game or via the lobby by simply going to their name and hitting the mute assigned button. As quickly as calling in and designating an airstike. So no longer getting killed while trying to make your way through the Xbox blades for the mute option so you can shut up the guy who always seems to find it funny to sing into his mic or cover up for his lack of skill by telling you how to play Domination his way.

The new DLC multiplayer maps are looking great and getting closer to a planned release, not to mention the fact that we might be adding an additional map bringing the total to FOUR new maps in the map pack. No news on whether they’ll be priced or not and no new release date announced.
from fourtwozero's blog.

I'd expect 400pts for free. They want to keep Bungie on their heels, and offering up free maps, wouldn't split your gaming audience, like so many games often do. I wouldn't be suprised if they were free, especially after that comment... and this is Activision, not EA.

I can't help but lol at the traditional EA hate--especially when ripping us off with DLC is totally Microsoft's game. How about, "and this is Activision, not Microsoft", etc etc? Oh wait no, that would negate a grand opportunity to take a jab at EA!

I hope they're free.. because they might as well not even bother releasing them on PC if they're not.

EA's not going to be overshadowed, they have an advantage for charging over both XBL and PSN. I remember when NFS had $2.50 per car, and $1.50 per cheat code at one point. I know you and Geoff Keighly love the EA snuggle bed (except Geoff gets paid by them), but they're as money grubbing as anyone else.

You can argue that MS made the "pay for stuff you already used to get free" infrastructure popular, but I'm pretty sure the suspects in court don't get to blame the guy who invented the semi-automatic.

And four maps sounds good. I have a feeling MS won't let them offer the maps for free, but its not like this is an MS published game this time, so we'll have to see what happens.

Well, I time both MS and EA, AND Activision are greedy bastards. If I had to pick first place it would definitely be EA because their crappy games at full price, major rippoffs like Phaeton says, their retarded deals with NFL and others, etc etc. Then you have MS who would not allow free maps of Gears because the huge success of Gears wasn't enough, they are the ones selling us a 20GB HDD for $100, and USB cords for $20. And then Activision who is going to start milking the Guitar Hero franchise, and I guess I'm the only one who has noticed that their big piece of plastic (guitar) is way too damn expensive.

Oh come off it. Microsoft is the only publisher we know of for sure that has actually made content come at a premium where the developer wanted to give it away for free, and yet we're still using this as an opertunity to take shots at EA.

EA was definately at the forefront with booster packs. And I have already detailed the poor decisions MS has made in the last 24 months.

But to make you all happy, just remember Allard wants MS to be like EA. Two peas in a pod.

The map pack will be available on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in the coming months for an unspecified price. But interestingly, Infinity Ward hasn't decided how the maps will be distributed on the PC, where players are much more expectant of postrelease bonus content being released for free.
The only option they have is to release the maps for free on the PC, otherwise they will just be hacked (so you can play them on regular legit servers regardless).. Other option for IW is to not release the maps at all on PC, but that would really be pathetic and a clear sign of the pure greed that's going on in the gamesindustry now consoles have started to offer DLC aswell (without any competition, a.k.a. a monopoly).. The thought that might happen already pisses me off..

I hope the last will not happen, because then I'm really starting to lose faith in the gamesindustry.. Then they are just as bad as the pirates they always complain about, only caring about their own bankaccount, not giving a **** about the rest..

Please proof me wrong IW, and show me you still care (even if it's only on the PC after you've already jumped on the console premium DLC bandwagon)..

If they cost anything on consoles they can't just give them away to PC users. There's already one custom map that's retail quality, and like IW's own maps, ripped from the single player portion of the game. In the end, I'm not too worried. Maybe they'll do a timed package, a la Halo 3 and start distributing the PC versions of the maps when the console versions eventually become free.

Our version has mod and custom map support, and we already get our patches before the console users do.. so I'm not really concerned. You're right though, they would have a difficult time charging for these maps given the systems they have in place. They also can't expect servers to run these maps in their rotations when there will be a significant (majority) portion of the player base that doesn't have them.

EA did it with BF2.. and the result was a group of boosters that hardly anyone played anyway. In Call of Duty, if there's a custom map or mod on a server, I've come to expect my game to automatically download it and put me in the game.

That's a funny definition of monopoly you've got there, though. There is competition, with other developers. There's no rule or law that says that users must be able to modify their own games. And IP theft.. is not the same as charging for additional content (nor is it, "as bad as"). That's just ridiculous.

There is some history here.. as there were map packs for Call of Duty 2 for the Xbox 360 as well. Does anyone know how that worked out? Were those maps ever available for the PC version of the game?

Valve have been saying just recently that it is up to Sony and Microsoft whether the TF2 map packs are to be free or not. I expect its the same situation with IW.

Odd.. deftangel has been screaming at me for months now insisting it's up to the games publisher. It's also supposedly impossible for them to market things at a premium on the marketplace that are free on other platforms. I'm 99% sure that Valve will be releasing all of the TF2 add ons for free on the PC. It would be very un-Valve of them to handle it any other way.

It's not a funny definition.. On the consoles they (the industry) have no competition from the community in terms of free mods, free maps, and other free DLC.. That's what I meant with having a monopoly.. As a result they all charge for DLC now..

Same thing with MS and Sony having a monopoly with their online service (MS moreso then Sony), running all the servers etc, so they can force developers to charge for DLC (because it has to be stored and downloaded from their servers).. I'm pretty sure MS (and Sony probably aswell) forces developers to charge for DLC.. That's also a big factor..

And very un-Valve like, you're right, but look at what happened to Epic and others.. In the end only one thing really matters, and that's the money.. And that makes me sad.. I'm still a very big fan of Valve, I'm I'm affraid one day they will goto the darkside aswell..

That's also why it's sad the PC is losing ground, because it's the only free platform where these things are much less of an issue.. I hope all the gamers that only buy and play on consoles nowadays (because they are so "cheap" to buy compared to a "expensive" PC) understand how much power they are acutally giving to big moneyhungry corperations like MS etc..

And yes, I also have a Xbox 360, and I also pay for Xbox Live.. But I don't buy any DLC, and I still play my FPS and RTS games on the PC.. I simply miss that 'feel good' feeling on the consoles where you get the feeling they (the deverlopers etc) really care about you as a gamer and person that bought their product by giving you free DLC to keep the experience fresh etc.. Instead I feel being abused just to make that extra buck (even the lousiest gamerpic costs money ffs!).. That's why I will continue to refuse to go console-only, and declare people that are happy to see PC-gaming decline just plain dumb (or ignorant)..

I don't think valve will ever wish to charge for DLC. Being so firmly rooted in PC history it would be a pretty radical step for them to take. Just have a look at this.

I agree with your point of view Inflatable, I just don't think that qualifies as monopoly. There's nothing that forces them into creating open environments for their software, online integration, etc. They don't have to allow people public access to certain aspects of their industry, especially in the realm of consoles.. since there's no precedent or expectation of such openness from the consumers.

Hopefully this map pack will be available day one, and for free, on the PC. If it's not I'm not going to cry much about it though, because it's not like the sacrifice hasn't had its returns. There are certain advantages that the PC version of this game brings that make it the hands down superior version, and I wouldn't trade that in for the ability to pay extra to get four extra maps.

People play this game differently on consoles. It seems like a less balanced affair really, since in my experience people gravitate to the assault class on the 360 like there's no tomorrow.. where on the PC you see lots of people running and gunning as special ops, in addition to a heavy load of M4's and AK-47's.

Additionally, you lose a certain amount of freedom of movement when you drop the keyboard and its ability to dedicate five whole fingers to movement and various inputs. People underestimate that aspect of PC game controls, it's not all mouse, although I wouldn't trade that in for an analog stick either. Mods are also pretty damn important to me, since I rarely play the vanilla game anymore anyway.. I don't think we're going to see a CAL mode on the console versions of Call of Duty anytime soon.

That a lot of consolegamers have no predecent or expectation of more openness and/or free DLC doesn't mean the consolemakers don't have a what I think an be called a monopoly on what's offered as DLC on their systems..

But anyway, what mods do you play GriftGFX?

I still play on regular vanilla TDM servers, usually with arround 20 players on them.. I find that's the most enjoyable for me (and my friends I play with).. Enough action, and still some room to move arround the map.. Less players results in a campfest, and more results in chaotic spamfests where you have no room to move arround anymore.. 20 players is best suited for most of the current official CoD4 maps imho..

And what's the name of that retail quality custom map that you named earlier? Thxs in advance..

Chinatown looks cool, it's a remake of Carentan, one of my favorite old CoD maps..

But it's a remake, so it would be even more rediculous if they charged for that.. Copy the layout, reskin and remodel it, done! No hard work at all.. Then charge some MS points for it, sell hunderds of thousands (maybe even millions), and laugh your way to the bank.. In the meantime people that don't want to (or simply cannot) spend more money then they already did on the game get seperated from their online friends who did and play the map..

And if they don't release this (for free) on the PC, I'm sure someone from the mapping-community will "remake" it as a custom map for us, so no real worries.. But it would be a big "f*ck you" towards their PC fans if IW didn't release it themselfs.. Same "f*ck you" they give the consolegamers that don't buy and get seperated online from the ones who do..

That's what I'm fighting against here.. We the fans should be more important then getting the max ammount of money out of a game.. It's not like CoD4 didn't make them enough money already, so having to charge to cover some cost is total BS (even moreso for remakes of maps)..
